  1. that should seal it. Sox sweep the Oriholes...
  2. ortiz is having some offensive trouble these days....
  3. huge inning by wang there. 2 men on, 0 outs and he battles through...
  4. what I dont get though, is that AGon finally got going yesterday and he gets the pine today...
  5. Millar is the undercover red sock on the O's. 5LOB in 2 AB's? After 4 consecutive BBs, he K's on 3 pitches? He sucks...
  6. Tejeda looked good in inning #1...
  7. Cora is starting at ss one day after gonzo gets a few hits. Baffling....
  8. probably not, I dont think Texas scores a ton, but I think Wang only goes 5-6....
  9. if you cannot see it then the media has spun you away. The simple ones always fall first. Let me preface this with, there is nothing wrong with making money off your team, absolutely nothing. BUT, the sox have shown that they are very money conscious. The only reason why Lucchino is with the sox is because he maximizes revenue. He was a pioneer in the building of the RF grandstands, the new club whose name escapes me, and I believe the monster seats as well, although that may have been the previous regime. With all the added cash flow and with the sox winning the world series (and subsequent major in flow of cash) the sox continued to raise prices yet keep payroll the same or pare it. They were very frugal in their signings, passing on resigning Petey and Damon for cheaper alternatives. Like I said, there is NOTHING wrong with making money, but with an increased inflow to these owners, the likelihood of it being pumped back into the team is slim. The general consensus was that the sox would have a payroll under 100 mil by the time Manny's contract expires. You'll see how low the sox FO will let the salaries go while upping prices for fans and skimping on the FA market. They were lucky though, because last yrs market was pretty poor so they didnt have to face the media flack for not getting another player. This offseason, there are some real big names coming loose so we'll see if Theo gets the okay to add. Don't get me wrong, the sox have built their team the right way with an emphasis on the future, but don't delude yourselves into thinking that any extra revenue will call for a salary jump. It will cause for a cash jump in the pockets of Henry and Lucky Larry, thats about it...
  10. well we have hammered into their pen for 2 straight days. If we work this kid and get him out after 5 innings, I think we'll expose them again, and if we need to score, we will...
  11. no it won't. It will allow Henry to line his pockets with money that should go into FA signings.
  12. I was just reading a Gammons article, ie the state of the red sox on espn, and his speculation on why Hansen is being stretched out is because the sox dont thinkLester is ready this yr. That's all. Our best pitching prospect isnt ready this yr either....
  13. I was impressed by his ability to get out of jams. I was overly unimpressed by his location and his demeanor. Last yr the kid was ballsy and would go right after hitters no matter who they were. This yr he seems overly careful and afraid of contact.....
  14. After his rough start, I think the sox brass and the media stopped billing him as a midseason savior and considered him what he is, a prospect with potential. He'll be good, he just should not be rushed....
  15. seriously, 13.1IP 3ER against the rangers is impressive, and one of Muss's runs was painted on him by Small. I am liking what I am seeing so far.....
  16. this is the game that the O's should take. DiNardo is not ready to be a starter and Benson has been their most consistent pitcher to this point. Unfortunately for the O's, Benson represents exactly what the sox devour, off speed pitching. Benson will top out around 90 mph and he lends credence to the contact theory. Contact is usually what you do not want to see out of Ortiz or Manny. I expect a high scoring game once again, but this time, the O's will salvage one game. O's will win 7-6...
  17. gammons weighed in on the topic.... On the Damon reaction at Fenway: “I thought it went a little bit over the top. I don’t understand the mentality of someone spending hours at home making up some obscene sign. It wasn’t like he was an electric personality here… he was very popular here but it wasn’t like Pedro or Clemens, he didn’t depart simply because of money. It was a prolonged kind of a mixed-up negotiation. And the one thing about him, he always played hard, he played hurt, and he was always accountable. I don’t know, I just didn’t think it needed to be quite so insane. "I sit down there and I listen to people stand up there with their kids on either side of them scream obscenities at Derek Jeter like their big people because they’ve got a fence in between them and the field so, I guess if that’s what makes people happy… I think sports can be fun too. There are a lot of people that don’t think it’s fun… I just thought that, in Damon’s case, one thing about him… I like Roger a lot, but he did say that, he did complain about things like carrying his bags, and he did go to Toronto and say that he loved it because it was so much like Houston, and Pedro left town with guns blazing because of his relationship with Schilling. But I just thought that the way Damon was always very respectful of the fans… I did not think taking out that ad in the Globe was phony in the least, I think Johnny’s pretty genuine, but that’s it, he’s moved on and I’ll say this, I found this really interesting, Don Mattingly made, and this surprised me, he said to me ‘you know, Damon has really changed our team’… this team had become so businesslike, and so uptight the last three years, Damon is sort of goofy, he comes in everyday with a big smile on his face, he’s up to something, he’s always accountable to the media. He said ‘he’s really changed our personality for the better.’ And if that’s true, and I believe Mattingly’s got a pretty good finger on that team as hitting coach and future manager, then I think that’s pretty interesting. I think the Yankees got more than they thought they got when they signed him."
  18. Chien-Ming Wang vs Robinson Tejeda Tejeda was obtained as part of the Dellucci trade and was stellar in his first start. He is a guy who bounced between AAA and the mlb in philly, but now he gets his shot in the rotation. The Yankees have classically struggled against rookie pitchers lately, but hopefully they can break that habit. Wang was a magician in Boston, allowing 10 base runners in 5 innings, yet allowing only 3 runs. He is a guy who pitched great last yr but is having trouble with location on the young season. It is time he puts one together. Yankees go for the sweep today, and hope to keep the momentum flowing into a crucial series in the bronx against the sox. GO YANKEES!!!
  19. Don't be surprised if Lowell is that way either. This guy has never hit for average like this, and he has also usually had more HRs than this, so maybe he has transformed into something else, who knows....
  20. ORS and .700, I'd be lying if I didnt say I was scared. 2 men on, up 5? I was expecting another Mo sighting, but he got out of it. I'll be happy once he is DFA'd cause he looks like he is droppin a loaf every time he takes the mound....
  21. this game is over. Good win for the sox. 2 straight QS's by Wake with Belli...
