obviously you would look at it like that, you are a red sox fan. I look at it like this. During his rough stretch, what was his downfall? It really wasnt the hits, although they did go up a little. Was it the K's, maybe, but not likely. It was his control. He walked 12 hitters in 21 innings. He walked a quarter the amount he did all of last yr in 1/11 of the innings. Something wasnt right. Against the A's he walked the leadoff hitter, then he didnt walk another batter in the game. It isnt much, hell it could be nothing if he goes back to walking the side against the mets, but it is a start. What I saw in Toronto, in TB, and against Boston was a guy too afraid to throw his fastball over the plate. What I saw in the first inning of the oakland game was a pitcher afraid to throw a strike. Then Guidry went out and said something that really fired him up. It was likely a challenge, becuase Guidry was a nasty lefty himself, and who knows, maybe it got him going. The fact is, it isnt like he is lacking the stuff, he is hitting 95 regularly and his slider still moves when he gets on top of it. His head was the problem and he showed signs of turning the corner. We'll see if I am right, but remember that I called it. I said that after inning #1, he wouldnt allow another run. And aside from a line drive homer 5 innings later that would have been an out in 80% of the ballpark, I was right. I saw it again from him, it was confidence, and if he shows it again, he'll return. Until then, he is Mandy to me....
