  1. Thanks for the welcome! Funny thing. It's the off season. There ain't a lot happening except rumor/speculation w/ regard to SS/CF & the return of Theo-God. This is the "Off Topic" section & we're getting lots of advice on what we "should" or "shouldn't" do here. I appreciate it Believe it or not, some of us may actually contribute something worthwhile before all is said & done. Maybe it’s a Bertrand Russell thing as in “Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd.” On the other hand, maybe it’s a Dylan thing “ I accept chaos. I am not sure whether it accepts me.” Either way, why not give it a chance.
  2. First impressions & all that so forgive us if we don't have all your protocols down. I've seen some complaints about the talk-talk, but y'all have your history as well (like your sig means nothing to me) & we're just looking for a good board which this one appears to be. Seems like some good posters here so far. The Admin seems like an open-minded & good guy. Our old Moderators were pricks...
  3. I can think of a large pinniped who would ban himself... (probably me too.)
  4. Near as I can tell, Fishy was the only unanimous choice as he was named on all the ballots. It's not even a George King/LaVelle Neal style screwing ?la '99 Petey since it's arguable if those other guys are All Star quality anyway (does anyone else have the feeling that mj is furiously googling even now?) Ha! Just thought of something... carbo? There is some palpable fear or at least apprehension from some & I understand it. As far as Flounder's observation is concerned... we'll see Bro. We'll see.
  5. As Tali said, Fishy is the Sox version of Sunkmanitu Tanka Owaci...
  6. Interesting analogy, especially since a handful of posters were originals on that board the first time it died. Seriously, your tolerance & hospitality is appreciated, yeszir. I haven't looked around here too much & obviously a board is only as good as it's contributors, but it looks like you have a nice place. In fairness, I understand the apprehension from some of yas... Believe me. Ha!
  7. We're on the same page there Col. SP throughout the league is terrible so don't give him up too soon or on the cheap. It's too easy to make the generalization that he sucked in his second half. If you go into the numbers, he had 11 starts after getting whacked in TB. (The TEAM went 7-4 over those 11 regular season starts.) He got hit pretty good his first start back from that, but then ran off six solid starts w/ five of 'em being QS territory or better. W/ regard to last impressions being lasting impressions though, he was shaky down the stretch even though they went 2-2 in his last four starts. His playoff "effort" was lacking. I wonder if Theo being back on board is a lifeline for him for that matter...
  8. I'm in.
  9. I could see Youk hitting 15+ HRS. He's never been power guy per se, but I put him more in the contact category by choice (àla Boggs.) FWIW Youk hit 7 in around 200ABs for the Sox in 2004.
  10. Snow could be good in the Fens. Age could be a factor, but the word is he can go to LF so maybe the Monster rejuvenates another career. Youk is Mr. OBP. He gets a shot.
  11. As far as the title of this thread is concerned, I'm not in the Theo is God camp. I like the guy, but I give the entire organization a lot of the credit for the 2004 Championship. They found the missing pieces & the entire TEAM put it all together. FWIW, The Duke contributed these players: Manny Petey DFL Tek Wake Johnny Mirabelli Youk Nomar for Mientkiewicz & Orlando Don’t forget Lou either: Trot Also, if Theo gets the most credit for 2004, then he gets the most "blame" for 2005 as that TEAM was more "his" than any of the others.
  12. What might have been. Good discussion for the January dog days... Clem is a sore subject w/ me. A HOF pitcher who never won a meaningful game for the Sox. Yeah he finally won a big game his 17th season in the Majors his second season w/ the Yanks. The Duke was a PITA in a lot of ways & it's probably safe to assume that he never heard of Dale Carnegie, but he wasn't wrong on Clem at that stage of Clem's career. In fact, Clem should have Duke on his Christmas card list forever for figuring out that Clem is motivated by negative energy. Clem was pedestrian his last four years in Boston. 40-39 w/ an aggregate ERA of around 3.75. The big problem was his starts & IP for three of those four years. Fraudger Clemens I'll always remember him fondly as Mrs. Dave Stewart plus he looks great w/ eye liner...
  13. As the Joker said in Batman "Wait until they get a-load of me..."
