  1. Damon never had a solid two hole hitter that would allow Tito to run him. bellhorn - k-horn - could not be depended on and by the time Cora/tony g went into that spot Damon was dinged up. this year things may be different and with two new players in the 1-2 spot it could work. only another month until we can start to draw some early conclusions....
  2. damon was too beat up at the end of his time with us and he was no longer a major threat to steal a base. depending on how well loretta can handle a bat, we may see a bit of small ball out of tito although it is not his forte. still, it could make a difference in how we do this year if they take advantage of coco's base stealing ability. be a welcome change to the plodding of the past.
  3. mc, no inside joke, just wondering. haven't heard much about his speed down the line. we haven't had a good drag bunter since remy - another part of the game that has passed us by.
  4. wonder if he can drag bunt.... hammer, welcome back.
  5. Once again we are going to see Torre spend a lot of time going to the mound during the game to make changes. there is no way they will catch lightening in a bottle like they did last year with chacon and smalls saving their bacon. I also think we will have another chance to lead the ML in runs scored which is more important than slugging average IMO.
  6. MC, i think we are all going to pleasantly surprised as we watch coco develop into a very good lead-off hitter. he is just maturing as a hitter and joining a new team in a ballpark that should be kind to him - most of his power and hits are from the left side - his ops is .869 hitting lefty.
  7. bringing Clemens back will just disrupt a clubhouse that will reasonably calm this year. Thanks for the memories and we'll probably retire your #21 but you are not what we need right now; another Pedro with special privileges. keep manny because as much as he is a space cadet, he will get over his desire to be traded until at least August. thenrthey can restart the annual charade to attempt to trade him.
  8. The key to hits 5th will probably depend on how Lowell looks in ST. If he looks like he has found his power stroke again (assuming he wasn't a juicer), he may be hitting 5th. Plus, that has the potential of giving tek a little more rest - he will have to catch fewer games this year so he doesn't experience a fade like last year. crisp and Loretta (who also had an off year due to injury) have the potential to be good table setters for the core of the lineup. Now, with the probable signing of Gonzalez, a 4th outfielder and the bench are the only thing to be finalized. Obviously I'm counting on foulke being healthy and can assume his role as the closer although they do have some other options. looking like a good ST with no major distractions other than Tubby (who I hope will stay and pitch for us)
  9. I hope they keep arroyo because he is good for long relief, is a proven starter and has no history of injuries. plus, he is not a problem child - except for his dorm chasing that is......
  10. no one would have found that out w/o a baseball reference.
  11. eddie bressoud, 1967 ws with the cards
  12. pc, that's full speed ahead.....
  13. n o sense in rushing things......
  14. that's right, it's "hurry up and wait" from now on.....
  15. Not many Ace pitchers w/o ? marks around their name. even pedro needs a special shoe for his toe. schilling may come back in great shape with an arm that basically had a year off last year. On paper, our staff looks pretty good.....
  16. they also have this kid - bladergroen - at a ball who was picked up from the Mets I believe. he;'s also a first baseman although he's not burning up the minors.
  17. TMW, I guess the concern for tubby is that he doesn't disrupt ST if he can't get moved. I think he bought into last year and should give us at least another good half season. I'm sure he'd go back to the yankmees if he had a chance.
  18. he has a great record in Fenway so it would be nice to see him stay. he would have had an even better season if he hadn't of hurt his foot trying to field a ground ball which kept him out for several weeks.
  19. My bad, I misread someone else's post. Guess we'll know in a few days what is going to happen with Gonzalez - maybe he will go to the cubbies. Pedroia is not on the 40 man roster that is posted on the red sox site which surprised me.
  20. i think the hold up on Gonzalez is he is looking for a 2-3 year contract. he knows that his stay with the sox will be a short one and he will be replaced w/i a year. But, if no one else picks him up he probably sign up for two years. i believe someone else said the cubs were interested in him but I can't imaging why - they just got Furcal. Foulke could be the key but they have some options.
  21. I'm ready VA. They will have some very good pitching this year and I hope they keep what they have. adding crisp was a key and now they just have to solve the ss position. the pen looks good - the only question is which foulke will walk through the door.
  22. i think it all depends on what shape he shows up in for ST. He has been injured two years in a row but still continues to play hard which is what we like about him - he'll have one more shot to get it done before they give up on him.
  23. I was watching game 2 of the 2004 ALCS and we had Millar on 1st, Bellhorn on 2nd, Cabrera at ss and Billy M on 3rd. Plus damon was in center and Pero was pitching - a few changes have been made since then.
  24. he had some quad problems and i haven't heard/read anything about surgery or how he is doing in the off-season. Of course, now that football is basically over the info will start seeping out - rumor or fact will have to be evaluated as it emerges.
  25. I'll be surprised if Tony G breaks camp with the club. he won't get much playing time playing behind Cora and Loretta if they sign Gonzalez. If they don't sign him, look for Cora to open at SS and pedoria to join them mid-season if he does well at aaa. I don't think they will overpay for Gonzalez. also, with crisp now under control for the next 4 years, what happens to Murphy? Wonder if he will be trot's replacement.....
