  1. Manny's not an idiot or trying to make a quick buck: March 20, 2007 Manny speaks! By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff It's not Manny's grill. Or so he told me just a few minutes ago in the Red Sox clubhouse in the first words spoken to any member of the media this spring. The eBay ad that has been circulating today is affiliated with the Sox slugger, he just doesn't own it. Apparently it belongs to his neighbor, who he's trying to help out by standing for a photo with the grill, which is advertised as being his on the popular web site. Bids are up to about $4,550 for the Jenn-Air grill. Though Ramirez indicated that he was not interested in baseball questions, he did speak to his personality, to his reasons for not speaking with the media, and his happiness just playing the game. He said he'll be happy to talk after his retirement, though he would not offer any guesses as to when that would be. "I'm just here to play the game and enjoy it," Ramirez said. "[i enjoy] my life. All the things that I do I enjoy. I'm not here to talk to [the media]. I'm here to play the game. "That's me, you know. The same. Everywhere I go is the same." 2. Was Clemens there again, watching his boy pitch?
  3. Thanks RSR! I'm watching a Red Sox ST on NESN in my own place, for the first time..........priceless!! :D
  4. I'm listening on XM as I wait for the Direct TV installer. Announcer Dave O'Brien just said Pedroia was hitting out of the A hole....bwahahahaha....ok I'll grow up... Does anyone know if the game will be repeated on NESN this evening?
  5. Damn Fred, as much as you're (and a lot of US are) on the computer. All ya have to do is pull up MLB.com or ESPN.com and you can see the status of any game. I knew the Sox were rained out at about 2-3pm (ET) today. FYI, sir.....
  6. Damn Fred, did you survive the rain out? Phew.......
  7. Yay Va Tech..... The game between KS and Niagra was a tight, nail biter....ha ha ha ha!
  8. A had GT too damn it. And Notre Dame. Damn it.
  9. Seany, maybe they took the David Duke approach this season....
  10. I only saw the last 10 mins of the VCU game. I get my updates on ESPN.com. I'll try to watch the VA Tech and Virginia games, for obvious reasons..... But I haven't done a bracket for $ in forever so I may try to pay closer attention. If I didn't have this thing called a job, I could watch a lot more...ha ha....
  11. I'm a VCU alum (1988) and had them over Duke, very cool shock for me, but Duke does suck this year. I have Pitt beating VCU though. My only loss so far is Marquette, it's early......
  12. I'm not clear on the formulas that allowed them to come up w/ this list. But I hope Bonds retires before he gets Hank's record. Not b/c of steroids or HGH, because he's an ass and there will always be those "question" marks. Granted, he was a Hall of Famer prior to the "steroid era" but faaaack him.
  13. Amen brother! Maybe I'll start a thread in the "entertainment" section.
  14. From the Boston Globe (Dirt Dogs section): The Top 10 shapes up like this: 10. Willie Mays and Orlando Cepeda, 1961-64 Giants 9. Edgar Martinez and Ken Griffey Jr., 1996-99 Mariners 8. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, 2003-06 Red Sox 7. Jim Edmonds and Albert Pujols, 2002-05 Cardinals 6. Ty Cobb and Harry Heilmann, 1921-1924 Tigers 5. Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent, 1999-2002 Giants 4. Eddie Mathews and Hank Aaron, 1959-62 Braves 3. Al Simmons and Jimmie Foxx, 1929-32 Athletics 2. Ted Williams and Jimmie Foxx, 1939-42 Red Sox 1. Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, 1927-30 Yankees Sorry, it's a slow night, waiting for Lost to come on and all....... EDIT: oops, should have put this in General Baseball section, I apologize.....
  15. So you and ORS are meeting up at ST?
  16. Yeah, really, why? Coco had a killer ST in 2006. If he were hitting like that now, no one would want to move him. I'd be shocked if they traded him. When Theo calls me w/ his plan, I'll let you all know......
  17. Embree, Timlin, Williamson worked great in the '03 play offs, the regular season is history once you make the play offs. There is a good chance we would have beaten the Yankees in game 7 if Grady hadn't stuck w/ Pedro. But there is no guarentee beyond that. The bullpen by committee isn't going to happen this season and that's a good thing. There is still plenty of ST and time left on a closer, there's nothing we can do about it, just wait and see. Remember, once again all, please, Keith Foulke had a 15.00 era in ST in 2004.
