  20. Okajima says he's OK, available to pitch Posted by Gordon Edes, Globe Staff May 19, 2008 04:27 PM Hideki Okajima said his sore left wrist is fine and he's available to pitch. He's out on the field now testing the wrist; Terry Francona said he may not use Okajima depending on whether he feels the lefthander can spot his pitches after a four-day layoff. The guess here is the Sox will use Okajimai if the situation dictates it. Royals cleanup hitter Jose Guillen -- Brendan Donnelly's best friend -- was just named AL Player of the Week after hitting .458 with 2 HRs and 13 RBIs. Don't look now, but the Royals have won six of their last seven, including a sweep of the reeling Tigers.

  22. Smith up; Van Every down Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff May 18, 2008 12:15 PM For those of you who missed yesterday's roster move, righthander Chris Smith was brought up to the big leagues today as insurance. With Hideki Okajima likely still sidelined today with a sore wrist, Smith will help fill out a bullpen that was mostly used up yesterday in the doubleheader. Since Coco Crisp and J.D. Drew are both back to health, Jonathan Van Every was no longer needed by the club. Smith will only be in Boston until tomorrow, when he'll be sent back to make way for Justin Masterson. He was 1-2 with a 1.45 ERA in 10 games (four starts) for Pawtucket this season.
