  1. Great game, hate to see Paps blow a save but the bats came thru for him! I flew in from Cleveland this AM, landed at about 1:30AM due to bad weather, was supposed to land at 8:30pm but was delayed. The coolest thing though? Jason Varitek was at the airport, trying to get to Cinncy, I got his autograph (Very low key about it) he still wasn't feeling well from the strep. It was awesome, he signed my Sox schedule (pocket size one). Also got Michael Irvin's sig as he was stranded w/ some Cowboy rookies due to the weather. And met the football guy from ESPN (looks like a bird) but his name escapes me. Who would've thunk it? Win the series tomorrow fella's!!

  17. A few things.... Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff June 2, 2008 04:49 PM BALTIMORE - Dustin Pedroia is getting a breather tonight with Alex Cora filling in at second base. Pedroia has not started two other games, but was able to get into both of them and was hoping to get into tonight's game as well. Pedroia has made a some sensational plays on this trip and this season, often throwing his body on the infield dirt. Terry Francona, who returned from his one-day absence to attend his daughter's graduation, said that he thought Pedroia could use a day because he thought he was "beat up" from all of his tough play. Asked if was hoping to play all 162, Pedroia said, "Absolutely. I love playing every day. I always want to be in there." Francona was still awaiting word on results of David Ortiz' MRI and examination by Dr. Thomas Gill. Francona didn't want to say too much and offered there wasn't much to say or speculate on until he knew. He said he's talked to Ortiz the last couple of days and feels Ortiz had had a wide range of emotions to being a little worried to feeling the left wrist felt well enough to go with. Francona said Ortiz' absence would allow the team to use Manny Ramirez as a DH. Ramirez has been battling a hamstring issue so not being out in the field should help the cause and still keep Ramirez' bat in the lineup. It also will allow the Sox to use a better defensive outfield with Jacoby Ellsbury-Coco Crisp- J.D. Drew. Justin Masterson will come up and pitch tomorrow night's game vs. Tampa Bay at Fenway. The Sox will wait on Ortiz' condition to announce a move. If Ortiz does not go on the DL, it looks as if Jeff Bailey would be the player sent back to Pawtucket.

  19. BALTIMORE - Warm day here in Baltimore. The Sox and Orioles go at it this afternoon. Brad Mills will manage the Sox with Terry Francona away at his daughters high school graduation. Mills has now managed three games against Baltimore to Francona's two. David Ortiz is out of the lineup with a right wrist strain. He had an ice pack on it in the Sox clubhouse moments ago. Mills said the Sox would put Ortiz through the usual treatments today and see how it responds. Sounds as if Ortiz will eventually get an MRI if the wrist responds to treatment even though X-rays were negative. Jeff Bailey gets a start in left field. Mills was asked how Bailey's defense is and he said that Bailey had looked good at the corners at Pawtucket and have no reservations about putting the former catcher out there. J.D. Drew was back in right, over his vertigo. Mills said Jacoby Ellsbury pretty much has the green light, but is given the red light at times in certain situations. Ellsbury stole three bases Saturday night and has 26 for the season.
