  1. Red Sox lineup: Ellsbury out again Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff October 16, 2008 03:29 PM Terry Francona has posted his lineup for Game 5, and he once again kept Jacoby Ellsbury on the bench, this time putting Coco Crisp at leadoff. The struggling David Ortiz is still in the No. 3 spot. Jason Bay and J.D. Drew switched spots in the five-six slots, probably because Tampa Bay starter Scott Kazmir is tough on lefties. That also explains, presumably, why Drew is not leading off, as he did in Game 4 when Ellsbury sat. Crisp is 9 for 30 in his career against Kazmir. Drew actually sat against Kazmir in Game 2 in lieu of Crisp and Ellsbury. Drew is 1 for 7 (a triple) against Kazmir. (I'd also like to point out, as Amalie Benjamin so kindly reminded me, that I was way off predicting the lineup in today's chat.) (Career batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage against Kazmir in parentheses.) Red Sox 1. Coco Crisp, CF (.300, .400, .400) 2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B (.560, .621, .840) 3. David Ortiz, DH (.205, .295, .385) 4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B (.200, .310, .286) 5. Jason Bay, LF (.333, .455, .778) 6. J.D. Drew, RF (.143, .250, .429) 7. Jed Lowrie, SS (.000, .000, .000) 8. Jason Varitek, C (.214, .410, .357) 9. Mark Kotsay, 1B (.167, .167, .167) --Daisuke Matsuzaka, SP

  3. Rain update Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff October 16, 2008 03:24 PM We just received an intense, quick burst of rain at Fenway Park, that lasted about 20 seconds. I walked over here minutes and it did not rain at all. It looks like it has stopped altogether; it might be barely drizzling. That was peculiar. The tarp, obviously, is on the infield. We'll try to keep you updated on the weather as the night goes on.
  4. Weather watching Posted by Matt Porter, Globe Correspondent October 16, 2008 01:45 PM A peek at the local radar shows showers in the Boston area, with a pocket of clear skies in between. The Weather Channel states the rain should clear for good in the 9 o'clock hour. From Weather.com: Today: Overcast with rain showers at times. Thunder possible. High near 65F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%. Tonight: Rain showers early with clear skies overnight. Low 44F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%. So the game looks to be a go. The Red Sox, of course, hope they can win tonight and cause a "reign delay" for Tampa. (Boo. Sorry. Had to.)
  5. Oh yeah, forgot about that stupid s***.
  6. Really, it's a different team? I wasn't aware. Wow, learn something new every day. Back when some of us were on the Boston Herald forum. We were down 3-0 to the NYY (2004 ALCS) and the Yankee trolls on the board were unbearable (pretty much like it is now) a guy named Wells wrote a very inspiring post. After the NYY choked the next 4 games away.....so went the trolls, except for jacko (who was either mjriv or bbdoc at that time). 2004 and 2008 teams have nothing to do with each other. YAZMAN and I were just recalling a very cool time for us Sox fans. So once again Gom, STFU!
  7. It worked in 2004! I miss him!
  8. What is a picher?
  9. Good Night dumb ass!
  10. Wow, Casey is finally in. He'll do well not seeing any time for 50 games. Go YARD Mayor!
  11. Really, good try....not funny.
  12. That's right Kevin Millar.....
  13. I can take the heat moron, I'm still here. STFU! I'm glad I don't spend my time on NYY boards. But to each his own.
  14. Well, you know....whatever gets you through the night...or me...or whoever...LOL
  15. Seriously pathetic. They don't even make it to the post season and act like ass clown's out here. Game is not going well. Time for weed?
  16. Yeah and before 2004 when your team CHOKED bigger than any team ever.....you fans were complete f***ing ass holes for f***ing years! Can't handle one season....sell your season tickets and SHUT THE f*** UP! Thanks.
  17. Sox were clutch in 2004 and finally shut your f***ing team down. f*** you. f*** you and f*** you. Have a blessed evening.
  18. Yep, just like being down to the NYY 3-0 in 2004 and the Guardians 3-1 in 2007. Not sure how our pitching will get us to the WS. f*** TBS. Come on Lopez.
