  1. DAMMIT Game postponed Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff September 27, 2008 05:06 PM Today's game has been postponed and the Red Sox will end their regular season tomorrow with a day-night doubleheader. The games tomorrow with be played at 1:35 p.m. and 7:35 p.m. The retirement ceremony for Johnny Pesky's No. 6 will still take place at 1:15 p.m. NESN will televise both games and the ceremony.
  2. Yet another Drew & Lowell update Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff September 27, 2008 04:30 PM The Red Sox face uncertainty about how the injuries to both J.D. Drew and Mike Lowell will affect their postseason roster. Drew has moved from frustration to confusion regarding the herniated disc in his back and how it has affected his back. “We can’t really figure it out,” he said today, sitting down and facing his locker. The Red Sox and Drew, who was out of the lineup again today, don’t seem to think he’ll play again before the playoffs. “I think everybody’s concerned, especially myself,” Drew said. “You know I played the other night, played three innings, didn't feel great by any means, but I got through it. Felt decent when I left the game, thought I'd be ready for the next day, I was stiff. Tried to go out and run some sprints and that just kind of set everything off. I had to come in, I tried to hit in the cage for a few swings and that didn't work out too well. Came in, did some treatment, was pretty stiff.” Drew’s back, to understate, is on-again, off-again. How was it feeling today? “I have stiffness when I wake up, stiffness when I get out of the car,” Drew said. “But I'm able to do some things as far as like coming in, getting some work in, and doing some treadmill stuff. I was able to hit in the cage a little bit yesterday, so I'm going to see what I can do this morning to get loose, kind of do the same thing as I did yesterday, see how it goes.” The news about Mike Lowell is more encouraging. The pain he felt last night after a checked swing, he said, felt similar to the pain he had in Tampa roughly 10 days ago, the snag that led to his eight-game absence. This morning, though, his right hip felt better than the morning after the Tampa issue. “Mikey actually was a little surprised that he felt as good as he did,” Terry Francona said. “Last time he did this or had an episode, in Tampa, he woke up the next day and was really sore. So I think that's at least somewhat encouraging. So what we'll do, we'll just let him spend the next couple days, let the medical people work with him, and we'll get him out there Tuesday and run him through a workout and see how he does. I visited with Mikey last night, I visited with him this morning. We're on the same page. He's a tough kid, maybe the toughest I've ever seen. He's hurting. We'll evaluate how he's doing and go from there. I mean he's not ready to quit, so we would not quit on him.”
  3. 4. DUH! Game delayed Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff September 27, 2008 03:21 PM Due to inclement weather, today's game will not start at the scheduled time of 3:55. The Red Sox "will do everything they can" to get the game in today. As for now, Daisuke Matsuzaka is still the starting pitcher. The Red Sox are expecting rain for the next few hours. We'll keep you posted.
  5. WEATHER PERMITTING, OF COURSE. Yankees 1. Brett Gardner, CF 2. Robinson Cano, 2B 3. Jason Giambi, DH 4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B 5. Xavier Nady, LF 6. Ivan Rodriguez, C 7. Cody Ransom, SS 8. Juan Miranda, 1B 9. Melky Cabrera, RF Sidney Ponson, SP Red Sox 1. Mark Kotsay, 1B 2. Jed Lowrie, 3B 3. David Ortiz, DH 4. Dustin Pedroia, 2B 5. Chris Carter, LF 6. Jason Varitek, C 7. 6. Number 50 for Jacoby, sweet.
  7. Tarp off; 8:35 projected Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff September 26, 2008 07:49 PM The rain has ceased (for now) and they are pulling the tarp back off the field. The revised time for first pitch "barring anymore rain" is 8:35 p.m. Dice-K scratched, start delayed Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff September 26, 2008 07:41 PM The game will not start at 8:05, and Daisuke Matsuzaka will not pitch tonight. (For the record, if you couldn't tell, I don't think the game will start, and I don't think anyone will throw a pitch tonight.) If and when the game begins, David Pauley will be pitching for the Red Sox. It's still raining. A lot. When there is more information, we will pass it along.
  8. Start projected for 8:05 p.m. Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff September 26, 2008 07:07 PM The Red Sox say there will be "an abatement" of the rain within 15 minutes, and team and MLB officials are hoping they can start the game at 8:05 p.m. (This despite a forecast calling for a 100 percent chance of rain. If they get in five innings tonight, I will eat my media guide.) The tarp is being taken of the field, but it is a truly miserable night for baseball.
  9. The new (hypothetical) Sox lineup: 1. Ellsbury, CF 2. Lowrie, SS 3. Lowell, DH 4. Youkilis, 3B 5. Kotsay, RF 6. Bay, LF 7. Casey, 1B 8. Cash, C 9. Velazquez, 2B
  10. Some sexual harassment stuff or something like that. I wish John Miller and Joe Morgan would sexually harass someone
  11. More Orsillo, Eckersley in October Posted by Steve Silva, Boston.com Staff September 18, 2008 03:33 PM Two faces familiar to Red Sox fans will be working on national broadcasts during the upcoming MLB playoffs in October. NESN's Red Sox play-by-play man Don Orsillo and studio analyst Dennis Eckersley will join Chip Caray, Dick Stockton, Ernie Johnson, and Cal Ripken to comprise part of the television broadcasting team for the TBS network's coverage of the four Division Series and the American League Championship Series. Orsillo, Carey, Milwaukee's Brian Anderson, and Stockton will handle the ALDS and NLDS alongside a team of analysts including Ron Darling, Buck Martinez, Tony Gwynn, veteran broadcaster Joe Simpson, pitcher John Smoltz, and Harold Reynolds. Eckersley will be in the studio, where he will be breaking down game action with Johnson, Ripken, and Tigers outfielder Curtis Granderson. "We are excited to have a team of announcers with such well-regarded and respected credentials for the MLB Postseason on TBS," Turner Sports executive producer Jeff Behnke said. "Their extensive knowledge and experience from all aspects of the game will provide fans with in-depth analysis of the MLB Postseason on TBS."
  12. I don't see why it matters that he hasn't pitched all season. He always been opinionated, always will be and is still a member of the Red Sox. Sure, I'd be annoyed by him if he played for another team. But without him, they wouldn't have won the 2004 WS. For that reason alone as well as 2007, he can say whatever he wants IMO. Same for Manny. His "antics" never really bothered me until it was crystal clear that he wanted out. He can say what he wants. I'll always wish him nothing but the best....unless he plays for the Yankees...ha ha!
  13. THAT GAME SUCKED!!!! fuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!!
  14. When the Rays were losing (every previous season) they would bitch about the Red Sox and all of the priviledges and advantages they got. New team, new winning record....the Rays may need some new announcers.
  15. Rare but still hate to see Ellsbury get caught stealing. WIN this damn game...DAMMIT. 700, this isn't the 1950's....calling out Bay is ridiculous and out of line and unexpected from you...seriously dude....WTF? Hope you were just trying to stir the pot bro...if not...DOH??!!!!????? Come on Josh....s***!
  16. Red Sox 1. Jacoby Ellsbury, LF 2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B 3. David Ortiz, DH 4. Kevin Youkilis, 1B 5. Mike Lowell, 3B 6. Mark Kotsay, RF 7. Jed Lowrie, SS 8. Jason Varitek, C 9. Coco Crisp, CF P -- Josh Beckett Rays 1. Akinori Iwamura, 2B 2. Jason Bartlett, SS 3. Carlos Pena, 1B 4. Evan Longoria, 3B 5. Cliff Floyd, DH 6. Dioner Navarro, C 7. Eric Hinske, LF 8. Gabe Gross, RF 9. Fernando Perez, CF P -- Andy Sonnanstine
  17. Kazmir looked out of it when he missed the play covering first on Ellsbury's hit.
  18. But what's up with Pedroia, Lowrie and Coco not hitting a HR?
