  1. So, will we be lucky enough to have McCarver and Buck today? I bet they will hardly mention Papi's news conference......
  2. I meant the "No-Hitter" form, of course. :dunno:
  3. Praying that Buchholz's finds his form today. He really needs to speed up his game. Really want to split this series. I'm a little numb though and can't escape thoughts of August 2006. RE: jacko, I've "known" him (mjriv, baseballdoctor, The Rivernator, jacksonianmarch) since 2004. He did stick around after the 2004 ALCS and put up with a lot of s***. He's like an emotional rollercoaster with a touch of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He is capable of turning on anyone in a heart beat. You guys and gals are smart you can see with your own eyes.

  5. Ortiz will speak Saturday Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 6, 2009 04:03 PM David Ortiz and incoming Major League Players Association director Michael Weiner will address the media before Saturday's game at Yankee Stadium regarding last week's report that Ortiz failed a test in 2003 for performance-enhancing drugs, according to MLBPA spokesman Greg Bouris. Earlier today, there was a report and persistent rumors that Ortiz would talk to reporters this afternoon, but that turned out to be false. Editor's note: Due to a miscommunication, we earlier reported that Ortiz was speaking on Friday. That was incorrect.

  7. 700 is going to snap! Baldelli to disabled list; Reddick activated Posted by Tony Massarotti, Globe Staff August 6, 2009 04:06 PM The Red Sox today placed outfielder Rocco Baldelli on the disabled list (reason is unknown at this point) and activated outfielder Josh Reddick. We'll have more on this in a bit ...
  8. Ortiz to speak at 3:30 p.m. about PED report Posted by Steve Silva, Boston.com Staff August 6, 2009 02:50 PM According to a report on NESN.com, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who has been reluctant to speak about last week's New York Times report claiming that he is among the list of 104 players to test positive for Performance-Enhancing Drugs in 2003, will speak in New York this afternoon. Today at 3:30 p.m., Big Papi will address reporters at Yankee Stadium. Coverage will air live on NESN and we'll have updates here during and after the press conference
  9. Typical Steve Phillips:rolleyes:
  10. Reddick on way back, but for whom? Posted by Tony Massarotti, Globe Staff August 6, 2009 02:14 PM Well, Josh Reddick is at least racking up the frequent flier miles. One day after being sent to Triple-A to make room for left-hander Billy Traber, Reddick is on his way to New York and should arrive at Yankee Stadium in time for tonight’s game between the Sox and Yankees. Though the Red Sox have made no formal announcement, there seem to be three options with the outfielder: 1. Reddick is here for precautionary reasons pending further examination of Jason Bay’s hamstring injury; 2. Traber is heading back to the minors and Reddick will be activated; 3. Bay is headed to the disabled list to make room for Reddick. According to major league rules designed to prevent roster manipulation, a player must spend a minimum of 10 days in the minor leagues upon being demoted. Nonetheless, an exception can be made in the event of an injury to a player at a corresponding position – outfielder for outfielder, pitcher for pitcher, etc. – though it is unclear whether a team must place the injured player on the disabled list in order to exercise that right. We hope to have more soon, but Bay’s injury obviously leaves the Sox short in the outfield. Suddenly, the team misses the versatility of Mark Kotsay, who was designated for assignment and ultimately traded to accommodate the acquisition of Adam LaRoche. LaRoche, of course, subsequently was dealt for Casey Kotchman when the Sox acquired Victor Martinez.
  11. Reddick out, Traber in? Posted by Tony Massarotti, Globe Staff August 5, 2009 03:49 PM The Red Sox have not yet made a formal announcement, but Josh Reddick is on his way back to the minor leagues with lefthander Bill Traber poised to take his spot on the 25-man roster for tonight's game with Tampa Bay. The Red Sox have an obvious need for a fresh arm in the wake of last night's 13-inning loss, during which manager Terry Francona emptied out his bullpen. All six Boston relievers appeared in the game and Clay Buchholz was due to enter in the 14th had the game gone that far. Traber is 7-5 with a 3.32 ERA in 32 games (four starts) at Triple-A Pawtucket this year.

  14. So no waiver/trades of any kind after 8/31?
  15. Is the waiver period over after 48 hours or is there a specific date like the trade deadline?
  16. That game sucked. Hate when we don't hit for whatever reason. Hate the dome. Hate extra innings. My old ass didn't last past the 10th. Hate being old and having to get up at 5:30am. Hate when we lose when Lester or Beckett starts. Hate when we lose. Hate trolling NYY fans rubbing salt into the wound during the game. f*** them. Not feeling great about our next 5 games, come on Sox, make me feel great/good about the next 5 games. Hope Penny manages to pull out a Win tonight and we start hitting. GO SOX.
  17. Francona: Walking Longoria not preferred option Posted by Tony Massarotti, Globe Staff August 5, 2009 12:45 AM If you're wondering why the Red Sox didn't walk Evan Longoria in the 13th inning of an eventual 4-2 loss tonight, manager Terry Francona indicated that he felt the club also would have had to walk Ben Zobrist to make the decision worthwhile. Speaking after Longoria hit a two-run homer off Takashi Saito to give the Rays a much-needed win, Francona said that walking Longoria and Zobrist would have left Saito facing Joe Dillon with the bases loaded. That scenario introduced the possibility of a game-ending walk, something the Red Sox did not want to risk given some of Saito's issues this season. Though the Sox did walk Longoria in the ninth, that was a slightly different situation. The Rays had a man at second with one (not two), and the walk opened up the possibility of a double play. Zobrist subsequently obliged with a bouncer up the middle that Nick Green fielded while touching second base with his right foot before throwing to first. "If you're going to go all the way to the bases loaded, you're looking at a guy with 40 pitches,'' Francona said of Saito. "I wish the ball wouldn't have gone out, but I don't think [walking Longoria] was the right thing to do." Though Clay Buchholz was warming as the emergency reliever, Francona said the Sox had not planned to bring Buchholz into the game until the start of the 14th inning so that the pitcher, who is scheduled to start on Saturday, had sufficient time to get ready
  18. Have to disagree with you on this one bro. Yankee fans are open game to anyone at anytime!
  19. From the Globe: Another day passed without a formal explanation from Ortiz, who was identified last week as having failed a test for performance-enhancing substances in 2003. Francona preached patience with regard to the matter and one source said that part of the reason for the delay involves the necessary paperwork and court proceedings in order for Ortiz to gain testing information that currently sits in the hands of the federal government. "We need to stay patient and wait and that’s a hard ... we need to wait," Francona said, breaking off the thought. "I’ve talked to a lot of people and we need to wait. I don’t know if that's fun for anybody, but that’s what we need to do."
