Byrd deal done Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 21, 2012 06:00 PM All sides have now confirmed our story from this morning - Marlon Byrd will join the Red Sox on Sunday. He comes to Boston for righthanded pitcher Michael Bowden who was designated for assigment by the Red Sox on Tuesday. The Red Sox will also receive cash to defray the cost of the prorated amount of Byrd's $6.5 million deal, major league sources said. Byrd also confirmed his deal to the Red Sox to reporters after the Cubs game this afternoon

Crawford making progress in Florida Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff April 21, 2012 01:56 PM Carl Crawford was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk in an extended spring training game earlier today. He was the DH. He will return to Boston in the next few days to have his strained left elbow checked. If cleared, he could start a throwing program.

Bottom line? Tito has class. I don't think it's any sort of signal. He's doing it for the fans and the players IMO. Everyone in the sports world knows the real deal. I still wouldn't have blamed him for not showing up. But like I said, he is Class.

Roberts not able to attend Friday's ceremony Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 19, 2012 11:40 AM Dave Roberts, whose stolen base vs. the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS led to Boston's first World Series championship in 86 years, will not be among the ex-players returning to Boston for the 100th anniversary celebration of Fenway Park Friday afternoon. Roberts is a coach with the San Diego Padres. Roberts said he would have loved to attend, but his duties with the Padres will prevent that from happening. Roberts' steal may be one of, if not THE greatest moment in Red Sox history.
