Regardless of when he's a FA, I don't think he'd accept a 3 yr $15m deal. It doesn't make any sense for him. Turning down $15m over three years may be a lot of cake for me and you but to a MLB player, it's not that much. Beckett can reasonably expect to make that much cash in his career so you can't compare it to, say, Mia Garciaparra turning down a 4 yr $60m deal. We'll see what happens. I suspect if BEckett comes out firing and is on top of his game thru the first 1/2 of the season then they may start negotiations. The FO has been decidedly tight lipped about these kind of things but the better and earlier he performs the timetable will likely escalate.

That statement would be 100% true if it were phrased "the fact is Seattle had no big plays to win the game that weren't taken away from the by the officials" That phantom hold was priceless. Almost as priceless as the cut block they flagged Hasselback 15 on when he made the tackle??????

Dude you're 100% right The officiating was abyssmal, both in the Super Bowl and throughout the whole of the NFL playoffs.

I don't think anyone is crying per se, but the horrendous officiating is taking away from what should be a discussion of football and turning it into a discussion on incompetency and possible game fixing. In addition to that, to blow the impact the officials had on the game off as a "Wah" would be truning a blind eye to the failure the ref's had in getting Indy to the Super Bowl and the success they had in helping Pittsburgh to win it. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I hope Leavy's crew made a lot of money for selling out their integrity.

You're right I forgot about that game The 'Hawks were in the playoffs the last two years, not just this year & last. And the guy from GB returned Hasselbacks pick for a TD to win that game in OT, 33-27 I believe was the score.

All it means is, that the facts, i.e., the economic disparity that exists in MLB and the ability of some teams to overspend on players, will not deter the apologists from defending that position if they fall on the one side of the arguement to whom the disparity is beneficial, meaning the Yankees.

Thats what I was saying here this AM. I almost feel bad for Bill Cowher because he finally gets the "big game choke artist" label off his back and instead of talking about that, the world is fixated on the joke that was the officiating in the NFL Playoffs. In a perfect world, Paul Taglibue would do something and address the issue of so many blown calls but if nothing else Tags has proved to be gutless over the course of his regime atop the NFL and for him to even suggest that the AFC Title game and the Super Bowl might have been in the bag would not be in the NFL's best interest, to say the least. Of course this is the same guy who refuses to acknowledge that the NFL is not in bed with the mob so what would you really expect from him?

No doubt about that. As I said, Seattle did not lose because of the ref's. But the officiating was unilaterally horrible throughout the entire NFL playoffs, theres simply no denying that. And its too bad Because the focus of everyones talk this morning should be on the GAME, not on the officiating and everywhere you turn, from the halls at school, to the water coolers at offices, to the talk shows and the news reports, the focus and the chatter has been on the s***** job the officials did in calling the game and thats not fair to Pittsburghs accomplishment (and it certainly wasn't fair to the Seattle Seahawks yesterday)

You may want to check your facts, Holmgrens won one Super Bowl, not two. And the only reason he won the first one is because Parcells decided not to coach his last game in New England. As for Seattle "always choking in the playoffs", could you expand on that? Because outside of last years team that lost to the Rams, I couldn't even tell you the last time they were in the playoffs to choke. When Jim Zorn was the quarterback maybe?

Thats certainly an interesting take on the game. "Officiating is just used as an excuse. Their are bad calls everywhere" There were bad calls everywhere. And they all, without expection, went against Seattle. Just as they all went against Pittsburgh in the Indy/Pitt game. Could Seattle have overcome the biased officiating? Yes, they could have. SHOULD Seattle have overcome it? Probably. Does Mike Holmgren blow like the summer breeze? Absolutely. But those two facts aside, the Seahawks were fighting an uphill battle against the Steelers and the officials. Saying its an excuse it taking the easy way out. The entire playoffs this year was marred by atrocius offciating. The AFC Title game being the worst. The Super Bowl second and the Denver/New England game third. I hope Bill Leavy's crew made a lot of money because selling out your integrity should not come cheap.

No one said they lost because of the ref's, champ And there-in lies the problem. No one that I've talked to, nor anything that I've read said the call should have been overturned. It should not have been. The call never should have been made. And the line judge who made it most likely kows that deep down inside. You can go watch the replay and you'll see the LJ running towards the pile-up with his arm up to spot the ball for 4th down then AFTER Rottencrotch pushes the ball over the line after he was down the guy signals TD. It was a pure bag job in every sense of the word. And if you're naive enough to think that ref's can't be in the bag, either to the league, or to a 3rd party, then the head out of your ass comment might be directed inproperly.

Ever see a bigger bag job from the officials in the history of the NFL than last night? Ben Dreith? This years AFC Championship game? Off the top of my head, those are the only 2 that even come close. The National Football League should be ashamed of itself for what they did to the Seattle Seahawks. That being said, Mike Holmgren blows. The Stones rocked, even though the ABC censors bleeped Mick twice.
