  1. Throughout this thread, I've been with you, Gom...but Clemens is in a class all by himself. What he did to Piazza was absolutely inexcusable. Clemens is one of the guys who goes for the head which, as you and I agree on, has no place in the game. Pedro was the same way at times. Gibson as well, if you want to go further back. Roger is an absolute monster on the mound, but his "extra-curricular activities" should hardly be used as an example of the way that the game should be played. If you notice...the guys who follow the unwritten rules and do it correctly are never talked about. It's only when a pitcher does it incorrectly that he's talked about any more than a day after the incident occurs.
  2. Ortiz had every right to watch his home run sail out in Fenway..and Weaver, or any Angel, has every right to give Ortiz one in the back next time they get the opportunity. It's give and take, the whole thing...if you want to admire your shot, that's fine...but you'd better be ready to take one in the ribs in exchange. It's up to the guy swinging the bat to decide if watching your shot fly is worth it. If he deems that it is, then I hope he enjoys the show; I fully condone him getting tossed at in the future. That's not to say I condone a ball being thrown at his head or anything...when you throw at a guy, you generally throw at him to HURT him, not to INJURE him. It's kind of an unspoken rule in baseball that if you're going to toss at a guy (and it IS part of the game regardless of who says that it's not), you throw above his knees/middle of his thighs and below his shoulders. Anything in that area is fair game. Generally speaking, it's a mutual respect thing. Just like in hockey when two guys will try to beat the s*** out of one another, but when one guy hits the ice, the fight is over. Who remembers last season when Manny hit a MONSTER home run off of Proctor and stood there like the Statue of FREAKING Liberty while it went out? I thought for sure Proctor was going to nail him next at-bat...instead, he just threw a fastball that Manny hit another 440 feet or so. I still don't understand why there was no retaliation. There sure as hell should have been.
  3. That was a naaaaaasty pitch. Hey, at least Lugo made an effort.
  4. Leadoff walk is the single best thing that can possibly happen off of KRod...if he feels that he can't get his stuff over, he starts throwing reaaaaaaaaally flat fastballs... EDIT: No no no, lead-off strikeout is the best thing that can possibly happen!
  5. Depends on what issue! You obviously never read "Boys of Summer: August 1986"...
  6. Does anyone else feel like telling Gagne that his goggles, curly locks, and douche-bag half-goatee were passable and gave him character when he was good, but now that he's sucking the house, they just make me want to shoot him in the face?
  7. Oh relax...we gave him s*** about the Pavano and Igawa signings. If we can dish it out, we've got to be able to take it.
  8. We would have been better off calling on Nancy Drew to pinch hit.
  9. I think that all pitchers expect a little bit of admiration when you hit a bomb off of them...I don't see it as any different than when they stroll off the mound after a big strikeout. There does, however, come a point where it's just unacceptable. Ortiz was definitely dancing a little bit over the line. I love Ortiz, don't get me wrong, but common man, act like you've been there before and give us a slow jog. No need to stroll halfway down to first. I would have been pissed if I was Weaver as well. I wonder if Weaver's "I'm going to remember that next time we play" was taken out of context? Generally speaking, you just wouldn't say "I'm going to remember that" and then immediately say "I don't think anything's going to happen, but..." That's just stupid.
  10. Pedroia does seem to get more rest than most guys...he sits more than most catchers it seems.
  11. Wow, that's a loose use of the word "great" if I've EVER seen one.
  12. See Red... Congratulations on the most gargantuan offensive fantasy week I have ever seen. There was no way I could contend with that.
  13. Ugh...yea...that doesn't look good. I wish the Yanks the worst on the field, but deteriorating mental health is a tough thing to deal with for anyone and everyone involved. You hate to see anyone go through this, regardless of where his baseball allegiance is. Best of luck to Big Stein and his family.
  14. Dear Opponents, Enjoy 6-inning games. Love, The Boston Red Sox
  15. ESPN News just said that The ChiSox are trying to sign Dye to an extension... Looks like the deal is dead. I was more excited about Gagne, anyways. EDIT: Gammons just said that the Dye thing is still going to happen. I swear to God, any 3 of us could have hosted this deadline special.
  16. It's looking more and more to me like we're going to have to bite our lip and do everything we can to get Tex. Ellsbury, Youk, Lester, Bowden...whatever it takes. I'd like to hold onto Bucholz, but Jesus the Yankees are f***ing good.
  17. You can't possibly think these are remotely the same. No one is in significant danger in these situations...let alone everyone on the Mass Pike.
  18. Great to have you here, man. We've got a bunch of good guys here and you should find it a nice place to shoot the s*** about the Sox. Congratulations on the baby...what about Theodore William _______ ? :dunno:
  19. Crunchy...you're totally off-base on these points. I agree with you in that Curt should keep his mouth shut more often than he does...but hating on a guy for helping get a drunk driver charged? Be real, man. Curt's got a wife and kids and loved ones out driving on the same roads that we do...he doesn't want a drunk ass out there and neither do I. You've got so many athletes out there who feel that society has a responsibility to them rather than the other way around...how you're not singing his praises for doing something like this is beyond me. Generally speaking, someone that is "just over the limit" as you stated (not that I condone driving 'just over the limit', but I digress) is pulled over for something else like running a red light or speeding, and only then is it found out that they are intoxicated; it is not blatantly obvious to other drivers sharing the road with them. For Curt to be able to recognize that someone was, indeed, wasted while driving home, I have a feeling that "limit" you spoke of was reached and exceeded much earlier in the evening. With regards to his faith and kissing the crucifix...until you've spent a day with him and know how he lives his life when the camera is off of him, you're in no position to determine what he's doing for fame and show and what he's not. Faith and religion are very unique things in that each individual has their own concept as to what they are and how they should be celebrated; because you go about your faith and religion in a different manner than he does not make him wrong and you right. Questioning how he goes about displaying his affections to what he believes is extremely trite as it challenges everything that your religion speaks to. Overall...Curt talks too much. I don't have anything negative to say about what he said to Costas because Costas asked him his opinions. When he gets out of hand is when he runs his mouth in a forum where it was not asked for. If you don't want to hear what he has to say, don't watch the show.
