  1. My fault... ...I misunderstood your statement. Or the original quote. I thought the original was stating that celebrities have priorities more important than attending a mid-summer baseball game...not that celebrities priorities more important than the average person. Seeing my interpretation, you can clearly see why I would have called what you said into question. Sorry for the mix up.
  2. I think the more relevant question would be how do you not figure? I find it extraordinarily hard to believe you're at 81 games a year. What gives you a sponsor's exemption to the June/July games, but doesn't give the same to celebrities? Look, I'm not defending Crystal, Affleck, Damon, or anyone else in particular...I'm just saying that it's not fair to dismiss them off as fair-weather fans. Much like there are die hard Sox fans who buy their girl a pink hat because that's all she'll wear...there are celebs who live and die with the team like we do. There are exceptions to every rule.
  3. So because Billy Crystal took one at-bat leading off a Spring Training game in early March against the Pirates, the Yankees don't take their Spring Training seriously? I can't wait until it's late September and we're in the midst of a pennant race, we'll really have a leg up!
  4. I'm not on any kind of high horse nor am I attempting to be a knight in shining armor. People just make ridiculous statements and don't back them up. I think it's important to have a reality check once in a while.
  5. What happened here is obvious... ...Shelly Duncan is pissed that he has a girl's name.
  6. I really hope 'Cuse gets in. Those kids have done SO much this season with the injury hand they were dealt and all. Plus, they got hosed last year.
  7. My girlfriend and I are coming to Boston a week from Friday to visit one of my friends and kill a weekend. I saw that the Bruins have $10 face tickets on their website but, of course, none were/are available for the Saturday afternoon game. Anyone know if they release any day-of? Or another connection for cheap Bruins tickets? Or discounted Duck Tour tickets? Or discounted Blue Man Group tickets? (Anyone seen Blue Man? It's always intrigued me...) When I lived in Florida, all of my friends would come down and they'd sit through 45 minute timeshare proposals in exchange for free tickets to Disney or Universal or whatever...it was an awesome way to be able to do cool stuff on the cheap. I don't know of any deals like that in Boston, but I wanted to see if you guys had any good ideas.
  8. Ha...Bush is a good guy...to be friends with. Not the type you want controlling your military/responsible for the economy/anything other responsibility he currently holds, but a good old boy I wouldn't hate going to the bar with. His presidency can't end soon enough, but a good showing today.
  9. Wait...professional athletes smoke marijuana?!?!?
  10. What is cycling?
  11. My buddy and I were going back and forth on this today. He's very much with you, while I think it's the exact opposite. Teams like the Yankees and the Red Sox have something to lose bringing Bonds in...their clubhouse chemistry, namely. Bonds best fit is going to be a clubhouse lacking the powerful characters...lacking the chemistry...lacking an identity. I see Bonds going to a small to mid market team and playing for an owner (team) that is struggling with their attendance and are just trying to get people out to the park. With Bonds, you have the casual fan that want to be able to tell their kids they've seen baseball's official home run king. You have the die hard fan that wants to go to give them an opportunity to boo him. And, you have a clubhouse full of young guys that he can't contaminate.
  12. Yo...Jayhawk Bill OWNS people. Brilliant.
  13. YOU LEAVE BRADY ANDERSON OUT OF THIS!
  14. Although dumbed down, that statement speaks to the fundamental concept of baseball economics. All too often we look at "was a player worth the $X that they signed for..." and use on the field stats to argue for or against. Sure, every owner wants to win a World Series, but a player's on-the-field performance is not the be-all-and-end-all as to whether a player has "earned his keep", so to speak. You have to look more at how many people a given player brings into the stadium that wouldn't have come if it weren't for him. You have to look at how many sodas and dogs that person bought...because those are all sodas and dogs that wouldn't have been sold had that fan not come to the game. You have to look at how many souvenir jerseys that player sells to people who wouldn't have bought a jersey with the name of a different player across the back. It's the marginal revenue that a player creates that determines his worth, not his strikeout total or RBI count.
  15. That's awesome...really nice of you to do that. I don't know if my name is into the hat for the Fantasy league...but if it's not, I'd really like to throw it in. I was kicking ass and taking names for the first 3/4 of the season last year, and then all of my players decided to bite it. Hopefully this year will improve.
  16. Good to have you here.
  17. My best chance comes from Pats 14 Giants 3... Should make it interesting. Good luck everyone.
  18. This gets blown way out of proportion, in my opinion. Since they made that section dry, it's nothing more than a colorful place to watch a game. I've seen countless Sox/Yanks games out there and never felt the least bit unsafe. You have to have a thick skin, but most of the creatures out there are willing to take it and give it in good fun. There are exceptions, as there are anywhere. You think differently?
  19. Ladies ladies ladies! Calm downnnnnnn. There's plenty of Gom to go around...enough of the pushing and shoving...
  20. Awesome. I don't know how I missed this last year. Regardless SFOC, thanks a lot. Will make a blowout (hopefully) far more interesting.
  21. How hard are Celtics tickets to get? Pretty expensive? I'm thinking about coming up to Boston sometime within the next month or two and I want to grab tickets to a game but I'm curious what I'm in for. With their hot start, are their seats as hot as the Sox?
