That said...my dad and I were debating stuff like this the other day...and we came to a decision that the HOF is going to get watered down by this era if the bar isn't raised. Basically, I feel like if a guy is even debated before going in, he doesn't belong.
I'm in favor of a one-time ballot for a guy...I don't feel like a guy should miss out one year and get in the next. If he didn't get in one year, in my mind, he's not good enough to be in. Mazeroski, for example. Doesn't belong. Great guy, hit a huuuuuuuge homerun...but doesn't belong in the Hall. You wanna put a guy like Mazeroski in the HOF alongside Mays, Mick, Teddy, and Ruth? Of course not. Now I understand that the guys I named belong in the Hall's HOF, if you will, but nevertheless, I think the bar has to be raised as we go further.
