  1. Agreed...Skydome/Rogers Centre make the Trop look like a baseball cathedral. (I guess it's not fair for me to say this, because I was in Toronto in 8th grade, so that's close to 10 years ago, but it was an absolute dump when I was there. Maybe they've done some improvements?) But the thing is, being in close proximity to Tampa (St. Pete, actually) gave me the opportunity to see the Sox for $9...can't beat that, so I'm kind of biased. The Jake is a great place to watch a game...I really enjoyed it there. It's very similar to Oriole Park IMO; I actually think they have something in common in architecture/design/etc. I went to the Vet when it existed and that place was a huuuuge hole. If you're a real baseball fan, you'll like Yankee Stadium regardless of where your team loyalty/affiliation is. Coors Field, I thought, was a real nice place to see a game. I'd say of all places I've been, my list is as follows: 1.) Fenway Park - Obvious reasons 2.) Yankee Stadium - Crazy historic charm, attainable tickets 3.) Jacobs Field - The Jake and Oriole Park could actually be a tie, but I like the Cleveland as a city better than Baltimore. 4.) Oriole Park - See above 5.) Coors Field - Denver is a great city...great weather. Awesome place to see a game. 6.) Shea Stadium - It's a hole, and so is Flushing, but it's not as bad as some. 7.) Tropicana Field - I mean, there's an Outback and a Checkers right INSIDE the stadium...can you beat that? 8.) Rogers Centre - Sucks. Actually Skydome sucks. But you know what I mean. I really want to get to Wrigley and PNC Park in Pittsburgh; I've heard it's gorgeous there.
  2. Yea...you can't dislike the Yog. He still maintains that JackieRob was out at home in the '55 WS. I like a guy with so much grit, determination, and pride that he'll dispute a call 52 years removed.
  3. Agreed...portions of Faithful were painfully boring for me. Not the subject matter, but the way in which it was written.
  4. That's a good point, but then again, so did Giambi. I mean when Giambi took roids...he never came up much slimmer that I can remember. He was a beast in Oaktown and a beast in NYY when he first arrived...it was after his famous apology that we saw him deflate like last week's helium baloon.
  5. Ahh...stick figure, upside down sling shot, half a boat, reverse upside down sling shot, inverted desk chair, crescent, squiggle, further down crescent, sideways nine, a bunch of number signs, and a man jumping over a cross...that's what I thought. Whoever said English is the most difficult language to learn was smoking something that I want some of...
  6. Good question... Hansack hasn't been pitching very well in the minors as of late...he played well up here last year, but that looks more like a fluke than anything else now that he isn't doing anything spectacular in Pawtucket. Last I checked, he had a high 3's era with over a hit an inning given up. That doesn't sound bad, but the competition up here is far superior to the Scranton Yankees and Syracuse Chiefs that he's facing in AAA ball. I'd say you've gotta give the edge to Tavarez...he hasn't been lights out, or even lights dim, but hey, we could do a lot worse. Ok, maybe not a lot worse...but worse. The way that I look at it, with the situation as it is now...if Lester doesn't perform, there's no other guy in this system that I'd feel comfortable handing the ball to every 5th day. Not Tavarez, not Hansack, not Pauley, not Snyder...nobody. So, we might as well not rush any of the young guys up when there is no distinct benefit to doing so. We've gotta keep our fingers crossed that Lester comes in and is a formidable starter every 5th day. He's by far the most capable and has looked good in his starts to date on the farm. That is, unless anyone wants to see if we can track down Rudy Seanez for a spot-start? :dunno:
  7. No way the Rockies would think of dealing Holiday. If they did, I'd be willing to give up Coco, WMP, and one of the B's to get him. I'd even consider throwing in another prospect. He's going to be a stud for years to come IMO. EDIT: Oh, and if they want Tavarez too, they can have him. I'll even give them a handjob if they agree to let us keep that other prospect I mentioned and take on Tavarez.
  8. I hate to say it...but all signs and indications point to him being a Yankee, IMO. He's always said he'd like to play for a team that 1.) needs him the most (Yankees) 2.) comes after him the hardest (will be the Yankees) 3.) in contention (The Yankees could be 9 or 10 back come June or early July and still very much be in contention...that's what that lineup will do for you) and 4.) will still allow him time with his family (You know if it means getting the Rocket in pinstripes, Big Stein and Joe will make any concessions neccessary regarding traveling with the team, etc.). You throw Pettite into the whole mix and I think that Clemens to the Yankees just makes too much sense.
  9. I didn't mean that OBP was the be-all and end-all of what he looks for...but it is still a high priority. Take what you said...about looking for good defensive outfielders with some speed...Pena is, right now, niether of those things. All I was getting at is that other GMs wouldn't even inquire about Pena if everyone saw him as a guy who was going to play awful defense, strike out 13 out of 20 times at the plate, and only contribute on a rare occasion with a monster homerun. Beane is, as cliche as it may sound, a good baseball guy. If he didn't see any potential in Pena to evolve from the player he is now into something very desireable, he wouldn't have any interest.
  10. When Harden has been on, he's been one of the nastiest pitchers in the American league. That's on as in "on his game" not as in "on the disabled list". Problem is, he's spent far too much time on the latter. He's a great pitcher...and if Beane is willing to sell low, then yea, I'd jump on it. Here's a question to all the WMP detractors, though... Beane is a great GM who values OBP higher than a lot of others around the league...assuming he IS interested in Pena, doesn't that make you wonder if he, in addition to a few of us on this board, see something coming from this kid? Harden may have had injury troubles, but he IS capable of being a dominant ace. Would Beane really be looking to deal a guy like that for a player he expects to strike out 150 times a year for the rest of his career? I don't think so. Again, we have no confirmation that Beane was even looking at WMP...but assuming that he was, it makes me think that Beane feels like with the proper instruction and experience, Pena could cut down on the Ks drastically and retain his unmatched power.
  11. That's true...but let them have their fun. Hughes pitched great...if someone came up from AAA ball for us and dominated like this, we'd all be going crazy as well.
  12. I was going to say something along those same lines...thanks for saving me the trouble.
  13. The Constitution wasn't written when people could legally acquire automatic and semi-automatic weapons at the drop of a hat. If you want to have a single-barrel, muzzle-loading weapon in your closet or under your bed to defend against a tyrannical government, as was the 2nd Ammendments purpose, more the power to you. The Constitution of the United States still provides a basic framework as to what is acceptable and what is not...like anything else written in that time period, however, it requires interpretation and discretion when it comes to its implementation.
  14. The Yankees always get hit with the injury bug, and it's always early, and they always rebound.
  15. Awesome...now if only he didn't suck...
  16. ...in Japan...
  17. Ugh...oh well...you knew it couldn't last forever.
  18. Man...eeeeeeeveryone looks ridiculous with cornrows.
  19. Nice job of Lowell not trying to do too much... Now if Coco gets a hit here, I promise not to make a post about how ridiculous everyone, even black people, look with corn rows.
  20. Can someone tell Manny that the season has started please?
  21. Dear Boston Red Sox, Please stop making Kei Igawa look like the Buddhist version of Sandy Kofax. Love, Danny SoxNation
  22. I feel like Dougie goes yard here... EDIT: ...and by "yard", I actually mean "to first on a BB."
