  1. Wow, really? I could see maybe saying no to Zambrano...but Kazmir? Why? Just the injuries? Look at the numbers this guy has put up...he hasn't had an ERA above 4 since he became a regular in the best division in baseball. What about Victor Zambrano? Then do you do it? :dunno: hahaha
  2. I can't see, in my wildest dreams, why anyone wouldn't deal a prospect for any ace under 30...not even counting Santana. I'd include Hughes in deals for any of the following, among others in no particular order: 1.) Brandon Webb 2.) Dan Haren 3.) Scott Kazmir 4.) Carlos Zambrano 5.) Jake Peavy 6.) Josh Beckett That's not just me being a Sox fan...I'd trade any of our prospects for these guys as well...you've gotta look at the risk over the reward: You're betting, by turning down those deals, that your prospect is going to be as good or better than those guys? The odds of him turning out to be BETTER is slim to none...so the only thing you have to GAIN is maybe 4 or 5 years which, in today's era of free agency, may prove insignificant. Plus, in trading them, you're still getting a young guy, but a guy who is beyond the learning phase and a bonafide big-league hurler...a process that takes a year or two with 99% of guys.
  3. Am I the only person that would really like to see the Devil Rays start winning? With the exception of Dukes sending his ex txts of a gun and threatening to kill her and her kids (common, like we all haven't done THAT a time or two...), they really seem like a group of likeable guys. Crawford is extremely fun to watch, Kazmir has some of the nastiest junk I've ever seen when he's on and healthy, they've got a bunch of realllllly young talent that are going to be interesting to see develop... It'd be cool to see the ALE be more than the Sox, Yanks, and everyone else. (Yes, I know the standings now, and how last year finished...but I still see it as a 2-horse race every single year)
  4. Seriously...the whole reason Theo had interest in the first place is because anytime the porcelin Griffey went on the DL, Pena would come up and MASH.
  5. I'm willing to move Damon and one of my pitchers for a top-tier outfielder. Quality of the pitcher depends on quality of the OF in return...
  6. I don't DFA Timlin...he's still good to have around on occasion...but he's got no business in the 8th inning anymore, and surely not the 9th on days when Paps isn't available.
  7. What's the deal with the shortstop playing on the other side of 2nd base when Ortiz or Giambi is up? Jeez...I really wish an announcer, commentator, play-by-play guy, or field reporter would mention something about it once in a while...
  8. Agreed...I would have rathered 2 RBI's 3 games in a row and a single RBI on the 4th day
  9. No doubt about it...I was just making a point that he doesn't NEED to be in there. I'd say Youk at 3B and Ortiz at 1st for Game One for sure.
  10. Lowell is 2 for his last 18...we'd better be careful he doesn't catch fire...
  11. I think you guys would probably have felt more nervous...the Sox didn't really have anything to lose. I mean, OBVIOUSLY we had things to lose, but we're the freaking Red Sox; everyone expects us to get to a certain point, then choke, the wallow in self-pity. We even expect it from ourselves at times. The Yanks are the Yanks, and anything short of 105 wins in the regular season and blowout playoff victories are a disappointment to some (allbeit a lot) of Yankee "fans". (That's not a dig at you or anyone else here...just a lot of your typical Yankee "fans" that don't know a baseball from a beachball and think the Yanks are supposed to win every single year)
  12. Even with the post-season performances of Beckett and Schilling against the post-season performances of Pettite and Clemens?
  13. He's given up 7 earned once, 6 earned twice, and 5 earned once...everything else is below that. Do I think he's the Japanese Sandy Koufax? No, nor do I think he'll ever be...but I don't think he'll be giving up 5 ER during very many starts in the future, let alone 33% of them.
  14. Great post Gom. I HOPE you guys are done, but I know better than to think so.
  15. In all fairness to him, his ERA has been grossly inflated by 2 or 3 REALLY bad starts...I don't feel like it's indicative of him as a whole.
  16. I didn't turn it on until the end...how bad was Lugo's error? That was the only thing standing in the way of perfection through 8 2/3, right?
  17. Maybe we should have let the leadoff man get on instead?
  18. Not me...but I wouldn't hate some Coconut Shrimp and a bowl of Creamy Onion soup.
  19. Actually...he got a hit earlier in the game, so he's not due for another week and a half or so. Plus, he's out of the game.
  20. Great minds think alike.
