    A teacher of his probably made him write an article on the internet and he needs a certain amount of comments on it to get a decent grade. So he would figure the posters here would have something to say.

    I think people are upset that we might be under 100mill becuase we had a decent amount of money come off the books this year and did not use it to make the team better. We have basically done nothing with the extra cash we have. If this team were flawless, or close to it, was coming off a WS championship and we were under 100 mill no one would care. The team is flawed and people are annoyed because we did not use the money to fill these flaws.

    If you mean let the Yanks sign all the A+ free agents and let the Sox get all the A free agents I love it. Let them overpay for all the big name A+ players and the Sox sign all the slightly lower tier players. The skill and talent gap is barley anything(someone has said this before) and as usual the Yankees will overpay for whoever the big name is and the Sox will get the next best thing at a much cheaper price. This, plus our superior farm system should help us dominate the AL. One flaw I can see is that the "A" players will never hit the market which leaves us dependant on our farm system, something I do not like considering the financial capability the Red Sox have.

    Gom is right anyone can do what Cashman did this off-season. He was given a blank check, all he needed to do was pick up the phone. Cashman has done nothing that takes talent or creativity. You are praising him for trading to get Swisher? Really Nick Swisher is the key to 2009? Jackson is pleased that he didnt trade away the farm system for Santanna but honestly who did the Mets give up to get Santana? That was a brilliant trade, I dont know why but Cashman couldnt find away to keep their top prospects out of the deal and the Mets did. All Cashman does is write checks and prays they work out for the best. He could never manage a team outside of NY.

    Hammels will soon be the face of the Philles, kid is a stud and is going to be around for a while. Howard also strikes out way to much for Theos liking, same with Dunn. I don't think they will make a run at Dunn.

    I dont know who said it but one of you guys mentioned that the Sox won't get in a bidding war with the Yankees because the drop of from the best player at a certain to position is not that great from the 2nd or 3rd. Whoever said that I think is correct. So we didnt get Tex for 185 mill but in the future we if we need a 3b or 1b we can get a quality player whos talent gap is not to large from Tex at a cheaper price.

    This is a very well thought out post. Who knows why they didn't sign Tex, could be shame on the FO or other reasons unknown to us. Whatever they failed to sign their #1 priority and had all their eggs in one basket. It is frustrating but I trust Theo will do SOMETHING. We have 4 major league starters at best. I've said it before but I am extremely nervous about Dice-K and the WBC, I dunno how hes going to be able to perform all year long after that. As for Wake I dunno how much more he has left so that is worrisome as well. I disagree with the SS position, I think Lowrie is going to be a good player so they are fine there. We all know C is a big hole right now. If Lowell and Papi dont bounce back this year its going to be tough to compete. A number of things are working against us this year and I hope Theo has one more up his sleeve. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

    Thank you for explaining this. GOM is right it is a business and a good business move but it is extremley unethical. With how much money the gov't is borrowing now and how much our taxes are going to go up its unreal for them to ask for this money after how much they just spent. But if you live out side of NYC, this means nothing to you at all.

    There is no log jam till we get Texeia. Once he comes then yes there is. I wish we could just dumb Lugo and keep Lowell on the bench but thats clearly not an option. I love Lowell and feel bad just to drop him like this but we need a big bat. If we deal him the infield is set for a long time.

    What do we do for the rest of the two games? What I want in order. . . 1) Do not touch Papelbon, Okajima or Timlin. They need rest and we need them in order to win in the postseason. 2) Get Manny AB's. That is why I think he has been batting 2nd recently. He needs them. 3) Rest Ortiz. I dont know how his shoulder is but some rest couldnt hurt. 4) Dont pitch Schilling the 2nd game, I think with him going on the DL earlier he could use some more rest. Couldnt hurt. . . maybe just a simulated game? Any ideas? I feel good going into the playoffs. Lets roll boys.
