  1. I don’t think velocity is his issue. I don’t think losing a tick on his FB should turn him from Cy Young into a punching bag with a 5.5 ERA. He hasn’t lost 5 mph. He was a punching bag last August and September with a 5 + ERA, but he got his shot together to pitch some very good games in the post season. He didn’t find extra velo for the offseason. This juiced ball is forcing him to be perfect up in the zone. He may have to go back to his sinking 2 seamer from his Detroit days.
  2. Prior to this season, Porcello has been plagued by the HR ball — hence the term “Porcello’s “. He went to the high fastball, because the sinker was playing right into the hands of the new launch angle philosophy. If you want to get outs, you need to pitch up in the zone and go above the uppercut swings. The problem is that Porcello doesn’t have the kind of heat to live upstairs. He needs to be perfect to succeed upstairs. There is nothing wrong with his arm. He needs to make some adjustments to the way he is attacking hitters and needs to have better command.
  3. Agreed. We ran into a guy having a career game.
  4. Porcello is a 4.25 ERA pitcher over his career. He has had seasons like this before, and it looks like it is happening again. In his good years, he has gotten a lot of run support. Look at his stats from last year. He pitched to an over 5 ERA over the final 2 months of the season. I don’t think his arm is ruined. He is just Porcello being Porcello.
  5. We have no quality big league arms in our bullpen.
  6. LOL! Good trolling material.
  7. It does seem that way.
  8. A bad loss. The team was completely flat. I think that they will regroup and sweep the Rays.
  9. Orioles manager is sending out this no name 30yr old bucket back out for the 8th. We haven’t been able to do a thing with him for 7 innings. I’d rather see their pen.
  10. i’ll Take that from our #5 starter. Hitters bats were sluggish after all that hitting yesterday.
  11. How can we not hit this kid. He was a throw away prospect from a number of organizations.
  12. I guess our hitters have heat exhaustion from running the bases so much yesterday.
  13. He’s a nice weapon for Madden, not a cause for concern. Right now he is on one of his scoreless game streaks.
  14. Since the two terrible outings (I think his 2nd and 3rd outings) he has given up 0 runs and 2 hits in his next 6 outings. He is back to destroying the opposing batters. He is back to being Kimbrel.
  15. It is Ridiculous to say that I am on a mission against Porcello. I recently proposed resigning him for 3/$45 million. I thought he was overpaid at $22 million/year for 4 years, because he is a 4.25 ERA Middle to bottom of the rotation pitcher. What he is going through now, he has been through before. Some years it has lasted the entire season. Last year, I think his final two months were 5+ ERA, but he was able to step up in the post season. This season he has been consistent garbage. I think he can straighten himself out and the team needs him to pitch well. I am not giving a pass to the other 3 pitchers. Each has been more consistent and far better than Porcello this season since the end of April. The argument is what the team needs — bullpen or starting pitchers. We have 2 Cy Young winners (Price and Porcello) plus Chris Sale and ERod is in the midst of his best season. We have a talented starting Corps. We don’t have a talented bullpen. They are full of minor league and borderline major league arms. The deficit in talent couldn’t be any more clear. Your bias accusation is ridiculous and I will chalk it up to you having missed your morning coffee or something else that threw off your game.
  16. No one has been arguing that Porcello has been anything but a big blob of suck all year. He needs to straighten himself out. As for the remainder of the rotation, 60% of it is good and reliable— Sale, Price, and ERod. DD has filled the 5th spot vacancy. As for the bullpen, only 3 arms out there are major league arms— less than half. And of the 3 major league arms, 2 aren’t very good. Hopefully, Eovaldi can turn the pen around. Right now, the glaring deficit of talent is in the Bullpen. One solution could be to trade for Stroman and move Porcello to the pen. That would solve 2 problems.
  17. Porcello continued to suckello.
  18. Kimbrel had some rust missing half the year, but he is back to destroying hitters.
  19. Possibly the best 1 inning pitcher, but not the best pitcher — a one trick pony.
  20. The rotation has the talent and ability to pitch consistently well, but in today’s game they are not going more than 6 innings and occasionally 7 innings. The pen has livery little ability to pitch consistently well. There are only 2 major league arms out there. Unless Eovaldi gives the pen a huge shot in the arm, it will not matter how well the starters pitch as the bullpen can muck up their well pitched games. I can see the starters performing consistently, but not that group of minor league arms in the pen. If your pen sucks, it doesn’t matter what the starters do. Ask Jacob deGrom. What ails the Red Sox is the bullpen. Hopefully, Eovaldi can fix that.
  21. He played in 2 games and had 2 ABs before being sent back down. He's 25 years old. I don't think we will have to worry about him haunting us.
  22. Former Red Sox player Ryan Lavarnway recently got picked up and promoted by the Cincinnati Reds. Tonight he has finally had his breakout game -- 2 HR a Double and 6 RBI. He was a big favorite of Seabeach Fred who though he was a can't miss hitting prospect.
