  1. Yes, they made something, but not $52 million. I was talking about a profit. What they have so far for their investment is a huge loss.
  2. At least Doji only made a suggestion. Sparky Lyle was already a major leaguer and a top young left handed reliever and he was traded to the arch enemy for Danny Cater. The Red Sox actually made that trade. In a couple of years we may witness a similar scenario when Rivera hangs up his spikes when Papelbon hits the FA market. The FO will convince us that Papelbon will not be worth the money as he walks to the Yankees for draft picks. At least Doji's suggestion will not happen, but really bad trades, signings and non-signings happen. No need to jump ugly all over Doji. I think he gets the point. The real tragedy is that Front offices full of highly paid professionals do manage to make some ridiculous moves. Julio Lugo is one that pops immediately to mind. Dice K is at a cross roads, but he could end up being a $100 million bust when all is said and done. Please don't tell me about how much money the Sox are making from the Japanese market. Until the Sox point to a figure on a balance sheet, I am taking the position that they have made nothing from the Japanese market.
  3. His last game is closer to his norm than is the one-hitter. Everyone creamed their panties when he 1-hit the Phillies, but that game was an aberration. He got lucky facing an offense that is in a horrible slump. They have been shut out in 5 of their last 8 games and in another game they managed only one-run. Some of the pitchers that have shut them down have been very ordinary or unaccomplished. Dice K has a lot to prove.
  4. Varitek with his 7th HR
  5. He gave up a single to Jeter (who has the most hits in Yankee history) and it was on a low pitch that Jeter went down to get. He clearly wasn't losing it.
  6. Brilliant move by the idiot manager, Acta taking out Masterson with 2 outs and 2 on in the 7th inning. Masterson's stuff was great today. He was throwing ground balls all day long. The reliever gives up a 3-run bomb to his first batter.
  7. Hall is mashing the ball today.
  8. Masterson just missed a double play grounder that would have ended the 7th inning.
  9. Boy that Ortiz is done. Bring up Nava!
  10. Enough with the walks. Three in three innings.
  11. Leadoff walk to Bloomquist. Ugghh!
  12. No VMart either. This is a weak lineup with no Pedroia, VMart, or Ellsbury
  13. The Sox have Jon Lester on the mound looking to split the series. Here are the lineups: RED SOX (28-23) Scutaro SS McDonald LF Ortiz DH Youkilis 1B Beltre 3B Drew RF Varitek C Hall 2B Cameron CF Pitching: LHP Jon Lester (5-2, 3.15). ROYALS (21-29) Bloomquist LF Aviles 2B DeJesus RF Butler 1B Guillen DH Callaspo 3B Pena C Betancourt SS Maier CF Pitching: LHP Bruce Chen (1-0, 2.89). Game time: 1:35 p.m. The slumping Pedroia gets a rest.
  14. Sox are going with red shirts and white hats. I hate that. The team has a more than 100 year tradition. There is no need to resort to gimmicks. Leave that for the Royals and other expansion teams.
  15. NESN is floating rumors that the Angels might take an interest in Mike Lowell.
  16. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2010_05_30_seamlb_anamlb_1&mode=preview Bizarre
  17. Some leagues have a per move charge. That tends to limit things
  18. How could you mix up the two? Labor Day always means the Jerry Lewis Telethon and the start of a new school year.
  19. Wow! You are all worked up. The big difference in the Yankee bullpen this year is that Hughes is in the rotation.
  20. Memorial Day. You communist!
