  1. Halladay's highest k/9 ratio in the AL was 7.8 in 2009. Many years he was under 7. Josh Johnson and Lincecum pick up lots of extra K's because they pitch in the NL, and as you pointed out, Cliff Lee's ration is not that high. Buchholz doesn't need to increase his k/9 ratio to be an elite pitcher. The proff is in the pudding and Buchholz is doing a better job of managing his pitch count and going deeper into games now that he is pitching to more contact.
  2. No, I didn't say that did I? I am just wondering why he would send him out there if the closer is already warm in the 9th. Unless the guy is hurling a shutout, he usually goes to the closer at the begining of the inning in that situation.
  3. Didn't KRod get 3yrs/$36 million/ I'd like to keep Papelbon and Bard at the end of the pen for as long as possible. I'd cut ties with Papelbon when bard is no longer cost-controlled. The great Mo blew a game this week, and KRod has had some doozies. This was a stinker by Papelbon. No doubt about it, but I wouldn't cut him from the team based on this.
  4. Why start the inning with Lackey if you have Papelbon warmed up anyway? I just don't get that. Is Lackey on Tito's Fantasy team and he wanted to get 10 points for a complete game?
  5. I've always said that I'd give him KRod money.
  6. Papelbon has uglied this up real good.
  7. That would be a mistake for both parties.
  8. Tingly? Good god, get a grip. It's a baseball game. I'd like to see him get his walks down too, but k's are not important as long as he knows how to get them when he needs them (e.g. when there is a man on 3rd and less than 2 outs). From today's Globe:
  9. K/9 rate is not important. The best pitchers can get the K when they need it, but pitch to contact most of the time. Getting K's takes lots of pitches. Pitching to contact keeps pitch counts manageable.
  10. If they are done with the team, they are not Red Sox fans.
  11. Oh, I thought they had planned on playing him in all three of these games.
  12. Did Lowrie get tired from running out all of those hits yesterday?
  13. Is this Code language for Yankee fans? Why call them "haters"? I prefer to call them scum.
  14. VMart's backup catcher. Cash has been placed on the DL.
  15. Bartlett lines into a DP to end the inning. Still 1-1.
  16. 1-1 now with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.
  17. Verlander just gave up a leadoff triple to Longoria in the 6th inning. The Tiger 1-0 lead is in jeopardy.
  18. The Yankees don't miss the 2010 version of these guys. They miss the 2009 version of them. They were a big part of that club's success, and the Yankees haven't replaced them.
  19. Joe's problem right now is that guys like Gardner and Cervelli have turned back into pumpkins. Grandy can't hit lefties to save his life, and he doesn't have Damon and Matsui anymore. He also has Burnett blowing up on a regular basis, and Phil Hughes is rapidly approaching his innings limit, so he'll need to scale him back. Mo pitching in tie games is the least of his problems.
  20. Our old friend David Murphy pinned the loss on a less than spectacular Mo Rivera.
  21. Thuuuh Yankeees Loooose!!!!! Thuuuh Yankeees Loooose!!!!!
