  1. IDK why his fixed mechanics would not translate to starting. Do relievers have one type of mechanics and starters have different mechanics? I don't think so. Here's some reasons why this might happen: 1. There are 2 openings in the rotation 2. He had been a successful starter in college 3. He has 2 plus pitches and his changeup is serviceable 4. It is rumored that he has expressed a desire to be a starter.
  2. Ooops, my recollection after 11 years was off by 9 days. I am surprised that I posted that it was a Saturday, because i do clearly remember that it was a Sunday night ESPN nationally televised game. I do remember that the last out of the game was a grounder to second and the second baseman double or triple clutched and just nipped the runner at first base. I'm not sure, but I think the second baseman was Jeff Frye. I don't remember who hit the ball. The King is never wrong about the important stuff. You are not worthy. You should be honored to be in my presence.
  3. I don't think the FO will be looking to rebuild this team while paring payroll. They have missed the post season two years in a row, and IMO, a third season in a row would be unacceptable to ownership. I expect that payroll will go up and the the FO and ownership will want to make a strong statement by returning to the playoffs. Madson, as the Sox closer, would have us puking out our guts before the end of May.
  4. Welcome to TalkSox.
  5. They probably didn't realize that Jenks signed his contract at an all you can eat buffet.
  6. But Beltre was not fragile. I don't see the need for a fragile LH hitting outfielder.
  7. Everyone thought that Butch Hobson would be a great manager. The Sox fired Joe Morgan to give Hobson the job before the Yankees poached him. Hobson turned out to be a horrible manager. I think the choice of a first time manager is a huge wild card.
  8. I thought you were open to stereotypical fun. Are you only open to regional stereotypes? I guess those are less offensive in your mind than ethnic stereotypes. More Irish blarney.
  9. He's blocked by AGon.
  10. They need a catcher who can throw. Yes, our pitchers need some work regarding holding the runners, but even with good jumps fat old guys should not be able to steal against us with such regularity. It's one thing when the other teams speedsters steal against you, but when the sluggers, opposing catchers and DH's steal, it's because the catcher can't throw. Salty's arm is very erratic and inaccurate
  11. He has trouble making out a lineup card. He lost the DH one time because he handed in a lineup card with 2 third basemen. He has never been able to motivate BJ Upton to play hard. As for clubhouse scandals and stories, the reason why no stories about Tampa get out there is because they have very little press covering the team.
  12. Oh! You are Irish. That explains it.
  13. Almost every stadium has noise prompts. Your opinion is ignorant and bigoted.
  14. There's nothing sappy sweet or simple about the midwest disposition.
  15. Good by baseball untill 2012.
  16. And Feliz had the game put away if Nelson Cruz could play defense. Then he took the ball out of Feliz's hands wirth a 2-run lead and he handed it to Darren Oliver. It's on the crackhead.
  17. He'll be hitting the crack pipe tonight.
  18. You are right. It will be soon enough to start beating this horse when they are ready to break camp with him as the starting catcher.
  19. I don't think he is trying to fool anyone. He's just trying to illustrate that many people got over-enthusiastic about Salty when they were posting in the "Salt is busting out all over" thread. He's not a great untapped potential signed by Theo. He's tall and barely adequate.
  20. The only thing I can think of is that he didn't want to burn him for game 7. If that is the reason, I think he made a terrible mistake. You have to bring down the hammer when you have the chance.
