    My advice would be to be flexible about when you come up to Boston. Hotel reates really fluctuate. For example, on Patriots Day weekend rates are very high and it is difficult to get a room. Sometimes there are big conferences in town and rates are high. Personally, I use priceline's name your own price feature. I select the Copely square area and 3 1/2 stars. I have gotten rooms as cheap as $85 (Fairmont), $110 (Copley Mariott and Westin). If you want to go down to 3 stars or under, you can get a better deal. Once you have the hotel locked in, then worry about game tickets. Since you are coming from Florida, sign up for some price alerts to Boston. JetBlue has this as an online feature, so does the travel site kayak. I'd track airline rates and hotel rates first and book them at the same time. You have to track them both, because sometimes airline rates are high when the hotel rates are low and vice versa.

    He might come back to Milwaukee, but it won't be for a discount. It will be because their isn't much of a market for him and milwaukee can afford to pay him market.

    Becket was 6 games over .500. The Sox were 18 games over .500 in non-Salty games.

    Tomase has some interesting stats about Salty's 2011 season in his Herald Article today. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view/2011_1217with_sox_go_figure/ On of the more revealing stats to me is that the Red Sox went 52-51 with Saltalamacchia in the lineup last season, and he was basically two completely different players. Without him, the team played .644 ball with a record of 38-21. I said that he was at best an adequate player, and the teams record was barely adequate when he played.

    I wonder how solid the rumor is about the Red Sox interest in Beltran? I would love for the Sox to get him.

    At some point one of the catchers will go down with an injury and Lavarnway will be nice depth from the minors and he'll get his chance to win the spot.

    I heard the Cubs owner is refusing to give the Sox compensation for Theo, because he realizes that he made a mistake, but JH will not take Theo back. He said that if he wants to throw money away, he'd invest with Madoff.

    And a load of money came off their payroll after last season. Yet, they have done virtually nothing. People ask why would Theo trade Garza, but if he is not going to start putting together a competitive team in the next season or two, I say why not get rid of Garza while he has value.

    At first, it may appear like he is a genius if we fork over a bunch of prospects, but I'm not worried that we will be parting with HOFers of the future. How would we feel if we were Padre fans and we got what we got for AGon? It has always been my philosophy that the primary use of prospects is as trading chips. Sometimes you have some real jewels and you keep them, but everyone else is a crap shoot. A very small percentage hit it big. We have no top talents in our organization, no Stasburgs, Stantons or Bryce Harpers.

    They have to do a lot. They don't need to land a big fish, but they suck it hard. They have a lot of building to do. I have read that their minor league system is not great either. If they are just going to build from the draft it will take at least 5 years for them to be a good team, not a great team.
