  1. Just sign Napoli!!!!!!! You know how this is really bugging me. What's the holdup.
  2. Looks like the Yankees covered all their bases on this one Pin. They got it right.
  3. Pin, I have a straw hat that is actually made of crackers......very very stale and probably taste like crap. I promise to eat it if Cano signs elsewhere. He won't. I may not like the Yankees but they are not stupid.....sneaky, yes, but very smart. Cano had better get religion quickly and put his name on the dotted line. As for Ellsbury I really now hope the Red Sox put on a full court press for him. I just think our offense would be hurt with his bat and legs. Good to see you posting here.
  4. Jacko, I'm with you on that all the way. The Yankees are playing this real smart......that is, if they really mean and are not just bluffing or lying through their teeth, a habit they've become proficient at. No interest in Damon? None in Teixiera? No dealing with A-Rod in late 2007? I'll just hold off from lauding them until I see if their stand is for real. As I said, their stance is a good one if they really mean it. Do they though?
  5. From the top team in baseball to close to the worst.....Wise move Salty, you f***ing loser.
  6. Oh you kid!!!!!! Good one though, even you yourself don't believe it. How've you been Pins?
  7. And when the going got tough in the NLCS against the Cardinals they proved just what kind of leaders they weren't. All they could was bitch and moan about how the Card pitchers were throwing at the and trying to show them up when it was their compadres on their own team that were acting like clowns in the dugout as well as on the field. I hold both Crawford and Gonzales in very low esteem, but the guy I was surprised at was Josh Beckett. Face it, we was the bell cow of our 2007 WS Title. He was an ace and horse in every sense of the word and his competitiveness and sneers on the mound was manna from Heaven for this person. Coming to ST in 2008 with a gut and then two years later saying that baseball was no longer that important in his life were red flags that fortunately we caught in time---well almost in time.
  8. VA---Papelbon might act goofy at times but he is dumb like a fox. He had it totally wired back in ST 2007 when he called a halt to the starting pitcher experiment and said quite clearly he wanted to be in the bullpen as closer. In fact, I was in Fort Myers right at the time we were first hearing that he was through being a starter and wanted his old job back. Now to be sure, the closer candidates we had didn't look too swift in ST but Paps knew where his future was. Too bad Bard didn't. Of course, Bard started showing signs of serious decline that last month of that forgettable 2011 season, so his problems could have started right there.
  9. Come on Ted.....how would you feel if there was a big bopper like PAPI beating the living s*** out of our team the way Ortiz has been cleaning he Yankees' clocks the past decade?
  10. The way I see it Palodios, it is either Hannigan from Cincy, resigning Satalamacchia or finally giving Lavarnway his shot to show what he can do. If we trade it will cost us prospects and everyone knows that they are more valuable than even and teams are doing all they can to stockpile draft choices and hold onto their young players. I know Pierzynski is available but he is a hothead, and most likely would not fit in our clubhouse. Anyway, that's how it looks to me right now.
  11. If I can make this analogy between Ellsbury's importance to the Red Sox and what has transpired the past few seasons. So we sign Ellsbury to a five year contract and a mutual sixth year option year, that is, if he decides to sign with us. For three or four years we have the same Ells, good gap hitter, terrific speed, and a prize leadoff man. The next two seasons at 34 or 35 his speed diminishes and he is nothing more than an average base stealer and a 290 hitter with 5 to 10 dongs a year. Still we win at least one WS with him leading off and add another one during that stretch, or at least an AL Title. Would it not be worth it, two titles, or one title and one league championship those five years? I think it would be worth it. It is just like what the team did this year. Would we endure another 2012 debacle if we could have a 2013 championship the next year? I would take that in a minute. And we will not have such a bad season as 2012 in our lifetimes.
  12. Well Bard's their problem now.....and good riddance with that. Bard reminds me so much of a pitcher the Pirates once had four decades ago by the name of Steve Blass. He was the hero of the 1971 World Series when he won the big 7th Game of that series with the Orioles. All of a sudden with a year or two he couldn't find the plate to save his soul and was soon out of baseball. Looks like the Cubs now have one of those now and we're free of him.
  13. It's also dumb spending too Station. I mean Bailey has been a physical wreck both seasons he's been with us and not so effective as a closer when he was in one piece. I would have thought that $4.3 million could have been better well spent toward a new contract for Mike Napoli, Jarrod Saltalmacchia or even Jacoby Ellsbury if the Sox were considering resigning him. That's a paltry number when you consider how much those other three could cost us but it is still money that could be better spent.
  14. Glad you did that Mark. It will bring more harmony to this board. Notice even User thought I made sense even with that little dig he threw in there. Still, we don't need flamage and hard feelings here. We'll get some of that when we agree or disagree on who we should have ( like my boy Napoli), but we need to keep personalities out of it. Besides, things are going to heat up on the front burner pretty soon and that should keep all of us very busy weighing the pros and cons of each move. Good for you Mark.
  15. I didn't say you had to do it Mark; that's up to you. I SUGGESTED you do it. You make to make that call, but I can tell you this. I feel a helluva lot better when I can talk baseball on this board and not get into pissing contests with some of my colleagues here. Hell, I'm pretty emotional and have an Italian temper but I n ever feel good when I get into arguments and get into personal attacks with people. It bothers me no end. You think it over. I only sent you a missive because I like and respect you and also that despite what one or two people on this board may think, I want friendship and unity around here. Anyway, we'll get back to baseball now.
  16. And my friend the Red Sox front office and powers-that-be must know that and I think they will act on it. The Yankees are a poster boy for large contracts gone wrong but being in New York with all the media buffeters nipping at them like hungry crows they have no choice but to keep spending and getting themselves into more and more of those large contracts because the Yankees cannot rebuild. The press and fans won't let them, and, besides, their farm system is in critical condition right now. If we play our cards right we shouldn't have to go through a disappointing cycle as we did from 2009 to 2012 again. Good post Sox Sport.
  17. Mark, with all due respect that was out of line what you said to VA. I've had some differences with here the past few years but she is a good fan and decent person. I would suggest you apologize and move on. She deserves a lot better than what you said. On another point this WAR stuff is important but we miss the psychological part of the game when we take about Ellsbury. The guy just screws with the minds of pitchers and infield alignments every time he gets on base. You cannot put a WAR or any other baseball marker on that. We would lose a valuable weapon if we let him get away. Yes, there is a risk of his getting hurt again but, face it, he did play hurt the last part of this past season. For a free agent big contract? Perhaps, but we know with the security of a new contract he wouldn't necessarily be worrying about staying on the bench because of hangnail. I think we have to consider this very seriously before we allow him to walk.
  18. Well I felt I was on a hot streak......well some kind of streak. And today the dialogue was much more friendly and collegial than in the past few days, and imagination or some off the wall suggestions don't hurt us at all. Just the same, how much longer are you going to hit on the Cano to the Red Sox caper?
  19. Well on the one hand those lean years were a pisser and there was a lot to be pissed off about and angry at the front office, FrancoMa and each other for this and that, BUT it is also certain that what the Red Sox accomplished this season should be more than enough to erase it. None of us saw this coming and to me they can crapcan 2009-2012 because in my opinion 2013 makes up for it. Hell, I was totally elated when we finally won an AL East Title this season. To go on and win the AL and the WS......s***, why even try to remember those other years. We have three titles in ten seasons and that's a damn good record. I'll take that in exchange for a few lean years anyday.
  20. You know Yazman, Heidi was with for four seasons and between 2008 to 2011 we not only didn't win anything but the team was consumed with poor play and multiple crippling injuries. In 2012 she was gone and we still had a hangover. Now with her just a memory we back as champions. She came out here to California to be a sideline reporter for the LA Lakers for the last two seasons and look what has happened to that team. Heidi may be a gorgeous woman but to me she will always be a Jonah. Keep her the hell away from the Red Sox and we need to find a way to get her out of LA as well.
  21. Yes they could......in about a millisecond. Another pleasant pipe dream suggestion. We seem to be full of them today. I'll try to come up one of my own.
  22. Please Mark, don't mention Josh Hamilton....PLEASE!!!!!!! I was one of the few here who were calling on us to sign him last winter and I have been embarrassed about it ever since. As for the Angels, they had better hope that the JH of 2014 is a helluva better ensemble than the one this year or owner Artie Moreno may wind up jumping off the Matterhorn at Disneyland.
  23. Besides my friend, some posters here have gotten battle fatigue about me droning on and on about signing Mike Napoli and this stuff about Cano is some much needed comic relief in my mind. Besides, no one is getting insulted or hurt over it. And you said it yourself. This offseason has been one goddamn bore anyway and we're all looking for something to whet our whistles over. There's no harm being done.
  24. That's what this board is doing now RSFFL; it's brainstorming, throwing out ideas one after another and see where it goes. We know this isn't going anywhere but it does make for good conversation----and whether the Yanks finished second or fourth or whatever, every Red Sox fan likes to stick it to them. I find Mark's idea a little far fetched because it will never happen but fun to contemplate what would happen if it did. Besides, tempers have been a little hot of late around here. A few guffaws and rolled eyes would be therapeutic right about now.
  25. Well it would go a long way to make up for what the Yankees did to us with respect to Johnny Damon and Mark Teixiera. And, yes, those arrogant Yankee fans would be crapping in their drawers for the next half-dozen years. It would be a real hoot to pull something like that off, but we both know Ben would never go for it and neither would Cano.
