  1. I don't know how serious Pablo's injury is but if he is out for a few games or a couple of weeks (let's hope not) it might afford Alan Craig a chance to see some action against lefthanders with Nava in against righties. Good to have this depth. My overriding concern though is the pitching. Masterson didn't evoke any confidence on my part anymore than Clay did Sunday.
  2. Anyone out there still think we don't need another solid pitcher or two? This game and the one Sunday should have disavowed anyone who thought not.
  3. I hand it to you guys who can stay on the game thread and watch the game at the same time. I've tried it for a game and a half and my nails are worn down to the nubs. TV or nothing.
  4. Jason---you have to believe that Cherington is thinking the same thing right about now if he has anything between his ears. We know we got a hot and cold Buchholz; what we may get from Masterson may be less than that. We need pitching.....6-2 or not, we need pitching.
  5. d-money, there were some who were very skeptical about Masterson's signing last winter and it wasn't welcomed on this board by more than a handful of the most over-optimistic people. The fact that even Francona didn't want him anymore last year and the Cards shunted him off the roster for the Playoffs make have spoke volumes. His velocity seems down and the second time through the lineup seems to bring out the best in the opposition. Still, let's see him two or three times more and hope he gets it together. We still were able to win tonight and that trumps all.
  6. Laugh it off you miserable turd.......I guess you can't take a warning. Being a woman is not going to save you if you persist with this kind of s***. Stick it up you fat ass.
  7. Don't you f***ing put that picture up in reference to me ever again. That's insulting and I take it very personal. One more time we go to war!!!!!!
  8. As I told Kimmi, I took that as insulting and hostile and promised I would literally fry her ears if she persisted in it. Don't you go there either. We've gotten along pretty well Spud so don't stray and get personal with me in any way, shape or form.
  9. I don't like you saying that Kimmi......I look at that as being insulting and hostile. Watch what you say to me because if you get personal with me I'm going to fry your ears....a promise. I was the Dean until your pal stole it and took it himself---and I will still refer to myself as the Dean since I'm the senior guy on this board. Never ever insult me again.... You've been warned.
  10. Huh???? Maybe this is senior moment User but what the heck do you mean by that?
  11. Personally I don't believe any poster on this board is happy with Lester's problems. I personally wish him nothing but the best---BUT, he is going to have to make reforms with his tosses to first base. They are going to challenge him and that is something he has to work on. He's overcome a helluva lot more serious stuff than that and I think he will be fine..
  12. I adopted Garin Cecchini a couple of years ago. I still think he might just surprise the Red Sox if he can play multiple positions. He can hit and the first half of last year should not eliminate him from consideration any more than those of you who still talk up Jackie Bradley should.
  13. I think Napoli also got a hit Sunday against the Yankees.
  14. I got both for this year....and it's the way to go. If you can swing it do the same. As for the game NB, the question I had was whether last night's game would be a anchor for us today or whether that dramatic 19 inning win Friday would be a spur to better things. Since the game Friday was a gutty TEAM effort and Sunday's was a one man arson squad, I believed the former would prevail. Good for us.
  15. If we win today you win a prize.....if not....$%^&*@#$!!!!!!!
  16. Think about how I feel right about now. I predicted here and on another board that Buchholz would have a good year in 2015. Doesn't make me look too swift upstairs right about now. OTOH, I will more than be willing to give a mea culpa for my take on Bogaerts last season. He seems to have made the moves needed to become a solid player, but give me another month to know for sure. So far so good......and I would love to give that mea culpa. Keep up the good work Xander.
  17. I'll tell you bad Mujica is. He was yanked off the Cardinals roster prior to the 2013 Playoffs after he got the s*** knocked out of him during he Cardinals' pennant run. He then was signed by us and proceeded to blow the first home game we played last season. He pitched s***** all year until we were dead and buried and then pitched fine when the pressure was off. He is pure horse dung, and Farrell needs to have his head examined if he things this guy can close for us....He can't close for us or anyone else.
  18. We did win the series...and we should keep that in mind as well as ponder what the hell we're going to do about Buchholz. This seems to be another beginning of another season of hope and prayer for the guy without the results we would like. Perhaps he simply is not wired to be an ace and has a lot of emotional problems when things go South. I saw it that first batter and I'm sure some of you did too. As soon as he walked Ellsbury, I said oh s***.....then he threw to first base right off the bat while Jacoby never even left the base. Then I said oh s*** again and knew we might be in for a long night. Still, I was buoyed up at how we kept pissing away a lead Friday and yet still came back and won the game on the road.
  19. Right on the mark CP-----and we have to keep in mind that some players are just wired differently than others. Some respond to pressure very well, others do not. You've coached from what I think you told me, and in the 30 years I did I found that some players really loved being in a tough situation. They didn't always come through but they loved the challenge and often they did come through. Then there were others that just wished they could be somewhere else when the chips were down. They weren't bad players, and, in fact, some were pretty good ones, but they didn't respond to pressure as well.
  20. Good posts on this....glad it's a separate thread where those of us who are interested can put their full minds to work on it. I can take this from a different angle for a moment. While a good leadoff man can disrupt a pitcher who fears he might run on him----Buchholz being a perfect example of such fear---it can also work negatively on the second batter in the lineup though. He could get panicky worrying about protecting the runner and spend a lot of his time worrying about whether the guy will run, whether he should swing....everything but concentrating on the pitcher. That is why it is of paramount importance that when you have a speedy leadoff man like Mookie or Jacoby, you better have a veteran poised and cool No. 2 batter who knows how to work the count and, if necessary, hit in that No. 2 position. In my years of coaching I found finding such a No. 2 man was a challenge but when I had a good one he was worth his weight in gold.
  21. Twenty-one years old and coolness and confidence like that? I can't remember any athlete that young that was so cool under fire. You said it right CP---what a breath of fresh air. Once he took off on Thursday I was rooting like blazes for him to win. I kept thinking he might fold with all those previous winners breathing down his neck but he only bowed his and finished with a bang. He didn't choke......if I may use that word here.
  22. Yea Hanley!!!!!!! A little too late but something to cheer about.
  23. I'm thinking watching Buchholz piss away the game----I wonder if this mauling we're getting tonight will affect us during our Home Stand. I sure as hell hope we can put this one behind us.....and at the same time start thinking seriously of getting a top quality starting pitcher.
  24. We wait most of the day for this game and this is that Fuchholz gives us. He had that look when he walked Ellsbury and it went down the shithole from there. I gave the TV to my wife. No way we're getting six runs anytime soon. He fooled us earlier this week---he will not fool us again.
  25. The rubber is about to hit the road. Sure would be swell if we could complete the hat trick tonight.
