  1. I saw Dempster pitch against the Red Sox in Chicago last June and he looked terrific, shu tting us out. Consider though what kind of team we had, however. I saw him on TV a number of times after he was traded to Texas and the Angels and others thorougly beat the living crap out of him. If genius Larry Lucchino really thinks this gu y is going to make our rotaton a solid one, well I can only guess what he's been smoking. No on this guy.
  2. Nitpicking is a way of life with Lucchino and Henry. It is way we lost Teixeira in 2008 and Damon three years earlier. So many of their dealings have blown up in their faces it's a wonder they have any of it left. The irony of ironies? We blow it on Napoli, Swisher and Ross and then make a big move towards Hamilton and wind up losing out there to a team that will give a little more money and an extra year. So we wind up with dumpster dumping again. Then we can hear the usual excuses..... WE MADE A NICE OFFER AND DID THE BEST WE COULD BUT WE HAD TO DRAW THE LINE SOMEWHERE. I just wonder if such a scenario goes down how many Red Sox fans will swallow those excuses again? Ticket buyers should stop in their tracks if this happens. Now this is a doomsday scenario and I would think these guys are smart enough this time around not to try and be clever by half and screw things up royally. Another day of getting nothing done. Seemin gly par for the course---and did anyone find out just what Larry's historic conference today was all about?
  3. Under normal circumstances my friend Dojji could have a point but most of us know that these are not normal circumstances. 69-93 and dead ass last in the AL East make this very un-normal circumstances. You said it yourself....The Yankees now have their starting rotation in check, the Jays have their lineup and rotation pretty well set, the Rays have the makings of a kick ass starting rotation and the O's are sky high with confidence after their great performance this season. There will still be some cautioning everyone to wait but I have noticed some impatience on the part of some posters who were calling for moderation before. Waiting for what Lucchino's gem of a conference is going to say.
  4. I was wondering UN when someone would mention that. Truth be told, though, he would be an improvement to our rotation----which needs some help. I just hope this doesn't get to be a big letdown because reading some of the posts today about what might be in the offing I am finally getting pumped up and raring to go. Just let's not let it be that we signed Gomes. That wouldn't please any of us.
  5. Hell BSN, I hope it is Myers and not Gordon. We are already too lefthanded in the lineup and with some of our prospects. Besides Myers is younger and I think would fit in better. Of course, this is Lucchino talking, the master of BS. If the person he is hinting at is Gomes people should think twice immediately about purchasing tickets. Let's get something done this time around.
  6. When Martinez was on the Red Sox, I referred to him as "my man Victor" which pleased some on another board and ticked others off since some didn't like him. Martinez would be ideal for our team if we could get him, but the hangup is what the Tigers would want in exchange. See guys, we're back talking baseball----and I'm looking forward to those Winter Meetings which begin on Sunday just so long as when it is over I don't hear "we've established the ground work by Cherington and see some concrete moves. The wait should be over by then.... in my opinion.
  7. I really appreciate you Palodios for watching my back on this one. Nothing gets my Italian up more than someone questioning my devotion to the Red Sox. It was 12 years of it on last August 19th and I will die a Red Sox fan and be buried in a Red Sox casket. That has already been decided by my wife and me. Still I resent what SCM Gullibiliovich said because he proved to me to be a willing tool and naive flunky for a few scumbacks who tried to cause me trouble five years ago. And SCM is actually a police officer. Hard to believe a gullible person like that could be a law enforcement officer. Anyway, thank you again Palodios and you too MVP for being my conscience. Now let's put this crap behind us and just concentrate on baseball. Do you thin Ben will finally wake up now.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
  8. Patience is a nice virtue to have iortiz but to me what seems to be going on is nothing more than notorious procrastination, as if doing nothing won't get anyone in trouble. I have a pal here named Elktonnick and he really came up with a gem. He said it either here or on Sawxheads that given the choice of making a tough decision on a personnel matter or doing nothing, Cherington would rather do nothing. He has me convinced.
  9. I'm on Gulliblini's ignore list too MVP but if you want to play my conscience in this, well OK. Personally I don't like attacking any fellow poster but he crossed the line questioning my Red Sox loyalty and dragging up some crap that occurred over five years ago and was false and pejorative in the first place. I have little use for people who are willing to be used and swallow whatever someone tells them. I w on't rehash it because old times here know the whole sordid story. Suffice to say, two of those jerks who make those accusations are, surprisingly enough, now good friends of mine. The other two will always be jerks. Any kuddos to you for trying to keep the peace.
  10. I kind of had that somewhat pegged that BJ would either end up in Atlanta or Washington and pretty sure Bourne will end up in Philly or DC. I hope that we start with some big signings pretty soon, and, BTW, since you live in the general area, what do you think of this "proposed" trade for Will Myers for John Lester. Is Myers really that good? I've come to the realization that maybe we should retool and start preparing for 2014 and let the kids play. As soon as Brentz, Bradley and Boegarts are ready, bring them up. The fly in the soup though is Lucchino. Rebuilding is not what he's about and is always looking to make a big splash. Maybe someone should just throw him in the pool.
  11. RS305, off season or in season there will be controversy on this board whether it is between my pal 700 Hitter and BS07 or between SCM Gullibilinovich and me. You were one who questioned by Red Sox loyalty and we finally put an end to that but that other guy hasn't so I did something I hate to do---go after a fellow colleague poster. The clamor will q uiet down but it would do us all well if the team started making some serious moves, either retooling for 2013 or going all out in a rebuilding mode. The problem I think is that Henry, Lucchino and Cherington are still in the dark about which road to take.
  12. Since you blocked me perhaps someone else will let you know what I think of your idiotic ******** post. If you weren't such a simple minded naive dweeb you might have seen what went on here a few years ago as nothing more than a couple of jerks who I failed in my classes trying to retaliate by saying I was this fan and that fan and had no team. How stupid you had to be to swallow that crap hook line and sinker but when you're simple minded you will fall for almost anything. This is the first time in years that I have actually attacked a fellow poster but your pathetic missive against me begs for a retaliatory response. And one thing you would understand if you weren't do deficient in independent thought. I might be some things but until you referred to me as a phony it was the first time anyone ever used that term against me. I've been called other things but anyone who knows me knows that Sea Beach Fred and the worst phony is an oxymoron at its best.....or worst.
  13. If you are right then it is time to throw off the mask and rebuild---and one way is to make that trade with KC if such thing is even a possibility. I also agree with you that Hamilton is a no-go....too much money and too many problems. The problem is that too many people think the AL East is going to be wide open next season, and we also keep hearing if only Lester and Buchholz could pitch like Nos. 1 and 2 starters we could be in the money, and you know what? I think this is Lucchino's thinking too. As fan from my vantage point I really don't think the front office really knows which way to turn and until they embark upon a definite program of either rebuilding or reloading we will be caught in a revolving door with no way to get out.
  14. That's very fair SJ93. I am going by Cherington's past performances and he has a reputation of being very slow on the draw, and very hesitant to make a move. He has said that himself. I keep being told by friends like EX1 to lay off Ben and give him a chance and by others to wait.....wait for the Winter Meetings, wait for the first of the year, wait, wait and wait some more. Two problems with that. One problem is ME. We cannot afford to wait coming off such a disastrous season. We need to make moves, either to get up to speed for 2013, or admit that we need to rebuild and go that direction. Problem No. 2 is that no matter how much Cherington dithers and stumbles and proves himself too crippled to make a move, his supporters will defend him against all evidence to the contrary. Now who do I hope is right? Hint.....not me but I'm starting to worry that I may be.
  15. You know Ellsbury, it you could think intuitively you might be able to understand what I was saying, but since you have trouble doing so let me put some new colors in your paint box. Signing pitchers wasn't the point; signing ballplayers WAS the point. The Yankees are signing players that will help them while we are doing practically nothing. Get it? Some here do. Cherington has enormous trouble pulling the trigger on just about every deal and with December almost upon we have done little to improve ourselves after being totally embarrassed and humiliated this season. We need a first baseman. We don' have one.. We need at least one starting pitcher, maybe two. We haven't gotten them. We need at least one solid outfielder. We don't have him. We may need a shortstop unless we want to play what co uld be the weakest hitter in baseball.....and we haven't gotten one. As far as coming here, you come to be entertained, to learn and exchange views without getting personal. So please don't tell me that you are satisfied with what we've done so far. I don't know but I give you more credit for having smarts than believing you think we are doing a bang-up job so far this fall.
  16. Lord Snow----Lester started falling apart the second half of the 2011 season and then compounded his misdemeanor with a gigantic felony with this beer and chicken escapade while he acted liked a worthless follower and flunky. You would have thought he would try and rectify things with a solid 2012 season but as we all know he stunk this past season, especially at Fenway Park. He also spent most of his starts complaining and bitching at the umpires. Now I'm hearing he might be coming back because he's only 28. If these past two seasons are of any indication much of Lester's problems are located between his ears. We finished last with him so what the hell; if we could obtain a great RH power hitting prospect in Will Myers for him I would be glad to undergo a rebuilding job because Lester is both physically and mentally ill-equipped to be a No. 1 or a No. 2 starter for us. Maybe he will prove the doubters wrong but he would have to really make a reversal of this season to bring that off.
  17. The Yankees are about to ink Andy Pettitte; have already signed Kuroda while all we've done is sign a reserve catcher and an outfielder who is a b utcher in the field, can't hit righties and is inferior to the player we could have resigned but didn't. In other words, another totally wasted day. Cherington likes to move around and act like he is doing things but he gets nothing done. After the Red Sox finally fire this guy he will never ever sniff another GM job. To me the guy is totally inept; sorry for you Cherington lovers but this guy proves himself a total dud with each passing day. Disgusting.
  18. AARRRRFFFPPPHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Go get 'em Ted. Why are there so many hair splitters on the various and sundry baseball boards? I guess it gets to be an art form making a short story a long and tedious one.
  19. Perhaps the Red Sox want to clear the decks of all the bad actors and divas before they infect the good young talent that is starting to arrive in Fenway. There is no way we need a virus to infect the likes of Middlebrooks, Lavarnway, Brentz, Bradley and Boegarts, not to mention Barnes, Owens, Renaudo and our other young players moving up. Lester has turned out to be a very irritating and nasty person and whether it was because of his hanging our with Beckett, and Lackey, the fact is that the gu y was a total ass last year attitude wise. It would mean that next year is a rebuilding one but it also means a large amount of home grown talent could join Myers and by the middle or end of this decade see us once again dominate the American League. Of course, the fly in the ointment is Lucchino who likes big names and reputations, and a GM who I believe is too timid to make any such of a daring move as this. Just my opinion.
  20. You could be right on that SoxSport, but I would rather kill two birds with one stone and ink Swisher and Napoli, take care of two positions and have the means to use these two in numerous spots instead of worrying if we get an early morning report of some player having a hangover in the south end. Besides it would still leave us with enough money to sign a pitcher or because we signed two starters instead of one have enough depth to trade for a pitcher. Hamilton is a great player but his background and penchant for getting hurt spooks me out. ..Besides, the team sells enoug tickets; the aim should be winning and not just putting on a show.
  21. What I'm afraid of is that Henry might once again become too clever by half and wind up losing out on both Napoli and Hamilton. I have as little confidence in is baseball acumen as I do Cherington's and that confidence equals less than zero. Very disappointed that Prune Face didn't at least offer Mike a contract offer of some kind. I don't like where this is going---and we still need a first baseman not named Loney or Gomez.
  22. Please NC84, be careful with what you say. The last time Henry got in deep over a negotiation with a FA was in the Fall of 2008 when we seemed to be in front for Mark Teixeira, remember? In two days, the talks ended and he soon signed with the Yankees. I hope the script is different this time around. I want to clear something up on Napoli too. I don't think he is some superstar who will make the team stalwarts in the league, but the picking are slim and he is one of the best ones out there. Teams are now starting to sign their key players long term. I remember a thread last fall when it was said that there would be some great pitchers like Hamels and Cain being FA after 2012 only to have their respective teams sign them to long term contracts. What's out there is what's out there and I'd rather get some of the better ones than take a chance in late January or Feb. and start picking up the excess garbage from the dumpster.
  23. Right you are Palodios on this one---making a splash got into deep do-do with the Lackey and Crawford signings, but your mention of signing Ellsbury raised some red flags. I can't believing that Jacoby wants out of Boston in the worst way and has felt that was since idiot Epstein forced flunky Francona to move him to left field to "save his legs", one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard uttered by a baseball official. Then he got creamed by Adrian Beltre only to have his injury misdiagnosed by our miserable medical staff. I also wonder if Jacoby has been a victim of bad luck or is just a very fragile player. I wouldn't mind trading the guy if it would help get a good pitcher but absent from that I wouldn't be adverse to resigning him long term. Maybe his luck is absent to change.
  24. Maybe for even less Jackson. Look, I am not trying to say that going after Hamilton is a fool's errand because a healthy and productive Hamilton would be a big piece to the Red Sox puzzle, but one bottle of beer or one mixed drink and there could be a meltdown. The guy is a terrific ballplayer; my friend Fred Repke helped draft him way back in 1999, but he is an alcoholic and a former drug user. What guarantees, if any, are there that he might not slip back into that state. Didn't he have a close scare this season or last? I just hope the Red Sox will use due diligence on the guy .
