  1. 5 years and 60 million for Millwood. No, i don't wish we got him now.
  2. Can anyone help me out with an el guapo avatar?
  3. Trot has played center before. He wasn't very good at it, and hes declined as a RF lately. The Braves traded Marte becuase they believed they couldn't move him to the outfield.
  4. There are reports saying both the Rays would have traded lugo for marte and that they wouldn't. I seem to be one of the few that like to believe they would've if they could've because they'd be idiots not to. As for Loretta, if he can play short, there is no hole at short. Since the front office hasn't come out and indicated hes going to be our SS, then I don't think its happening.
  5. From espn.coms rumor mill:
  6. I couldn't agree more. No spending 60 million on Millwood, and 52 on Damon. Lets us save our money when any real big names hit the free agent market. Texeira, Cabrera, Jason Bay, Roy Oswalt, Derek Lee, these are the names you break the bank for. Not Johnny Damon and Kevin Millwood.
  7. Not to nitpick, but theres far more to consider. How about the positions they play, 06 production, production after 07, and how much money they make.
  8. Izturis has a career obp. of .295. Lugos is .340, hee has a career slugging% 62 points lower, and hes out till midseason. Wells could retire if you don't trade him before the season starts.
  9. My point wasn't that the best thing we could do is trade Marte for Crisp. My point was that the best possible and realistic major league club we could construct for next year would have crisp in center, and Marte would probably have to be dealt. I was pointing out that the lineup that would consruct, with coco in center, and lugo at short, would probably outscore last years offense, which ranked first in the majors. Our starting rotation is already better. Obviously injuries could change that, but every major league team can say the same thing, and we were hit hard by injuries last year. If our bullpen is a major improvement over last year, I'd be shocked. So, what i was getting at is I don't see why people are slamming the front office, and thinking we've fallen behind the blue jays.
  10. Lugo would be a much better addition than both Huff and Gathright. Marte for Lugo AND Gathright doesn't sound so bad, but the Rays probably wouldn't go for it. The idea lineup would be to add Crisp and Lugo. A lineup of: Lugo Loretta Ortiz Manny Nixon Tek Crisp Lowell Youk seems better to me that what we put out there last year. It seems we could get Crisp if we are willing to include Marte. Seems highly unlikely but spinning Wells and B level prospects for Lugo and Marte for Crisp and maybe a prospect looks like a best case scenario.
  11. damon should produce less for 4/52 in new york than he did the last 4 years in boston for 32. In the short term the red sox lose but i think theres a good chance they win on losing damon in the long run. We can't really use the money we saved on him now cuz there isn't anyone really out there. I think you can get a far better player than Johnny next year for 4/52. Obviously it sucks in the short term
  12. But whose a better option out there than Youk? Personally i think a Youk/Petagine platoon at first is ideal, with Youk playing some third against righties to get him more at bats. Youk and Lowell hit lefties better, Petagine hits righties better. Every time a lefty is on the mound Lowell and Youk both play, when its a righty they split 3rd.
  13. Have you looked at Beltrans numbers last year?
  14. Agreed, Beltran really had an awful year last year and hes under contract for a long time.
  15. Assuming I wanted them to win, which I don't: Opeate under budget on the major league club. Put Chacon, Wang, and Small in the rotation with Mussina and RJ. Trade Pavano for young talent. Trade Wright for a bag of balls. Put Melky Cabrera/bubba crosby in center. Now the important part, invest heavily in the draft. Draft a tough sign with every pick. Guys like Hansen and Hochevor.
  16. Both are older and put up pretty similar numbers to Youk. We already have Youk, hes cheaper, and i don't see any reason to think why either shea or hinske would be better. Hinske in 2004 was pretty bad, and rebounded to average last year.
  17. Maybe we could get Abraham Nunez for him. We could really use another 3b.
  18. I'd be shocked if Pedroia doesn't start the season as Pawtucket's SS to show what he can do. I'd expect us to bring in a low cost veteran, like the rumored alex gonzalez or royce clayton, as a short term solution and if Pedroia shows hes capable defensively while also proving himself offensively in AAA then he wins the job either by midseason or the start of next season.
  19. Trading for Lugo would cost less than trading for Tejada, but how much less? There were reports the Rays wouldn't trade Lugo for Marte. Other reports have said thats not true, but if it is theres no way we're trading for Lugo. Wait one year till hes a free agent and sign him then.
  20. According to this webiste, http://www.hardballdollars.com/team.php?team=astros&name=Astros, Berkman has 5 years at $14.5 million left on his contract. So you save $5.5 a year for three years minus what Lidge gets in arbitration. I think its a tough call. In order to do a trade like this you'd first have to sit down and consider how much his numbers would go down leaving Minute Maid Park. Surprisingly his numbers haven't gone down on the road over the last three years. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?statsId=6279&type=batting3 When you factor in Lidge, I think we come out ahead.
  21. You'd have to think Berkman would also be included in a trade for Manny. With how much money berkman is making though it might not be worth it. His numbers look good but you have to figure they'd go down after leaving whatever the name of that park is.
  22. Just wanted to add that Ausmus is from Cheshire CT and grew up a red sox fan. With or without Clemens he'd probably be interested in coming to the Sox. Before the All Star game at fenway when he was selected he added how extra special it was for him to go to the all star game being played at fenway.
  23. He does hit for power exceptionally well. From what I've read he played in a pretty strong pitchers park in AAA last year and had a very high slugging percentage. He also gets on a base at an above average rate. Without knowing how to look this up I'd be willing to bet the Red Sox have never had a player under the age of 22 put up a higher slugging percentage in AAA.
  24. Crazy question. Wouldn't a package of Lester and Pappelbon be better than any offer anyone would give Baltimore? At first thought I'd think thats giving up too much on our end, but if Manny changed him mind about wanting to be traded in order to play with Tejada and Ortiz and really be apart of something special here I think I would do it. An article in tomorrow mornings herald makes it seem like the Orioles are strongly considering honoring Tejadas request(http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=116410), and i don't see them getting a better offer than this. This would leave us enough money to sign Encarnacion for center, or trade wells and sign Johnny. Mark Loretta-2b Kevin Youkilis-1b David Ortiz-DH Manny Ramirez-LF Miguel Tejada-SS Jason Varitek-C Encarnacion/Damon-CF (Move damon to lead off and Youk Down here if we keep Johnny Trot Nixon-RF Lowell/Marte-3b
