  1. The Yanks were pretty desperate for any CF last year that could catch the ball. Who was it that came up for that one game against the Mets at the stadium after Bernie had that horrible game that Saturday(I was there).
  2. I was just looking at the OF FA list and there really isnt much out there that I like to be honest. Lee is just about it. I think Huff can play some OF (Prob not very good) hes out there also.
  3. I'm not a Thompson fan. I see him as a backup. This year is critical for both Sardinha and Melky. Both need to show something to justify the hype they were recieving at one point in their careers.
  4. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-spyanks0222,0,4317626.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines I like what Cashman did here. By telling Sheffield that they are likely to pick up his option it keeps Sheffield happy and not bitching and moaning about his contract. I figured sometime in March we would hear him erupt. That said I would only bring Sheffield back(In 07) as the full time DH.
  5. Question: If MLB does contract 2 teams what happens to the players of those teams? Do they become FA's? Is there some sort of draft? Just curious.
  6. I've heard wispers of this for awhile now. Alot of people say he doesnt care much about passing Aaron. Its Ruth he wants to pass.
  7. That tape dunk killed him. When you set the spot but dont dunk from it you kill yourself.
  8. I actually agree with your point also. What I think happend was MLB wanted to make more teams and fill out the rosters and add stars to those teams so they asked guys like Piazza to play for Italy, same with Nomar and Mexico etc. If you look at the rosters: http://www.worldbaseballclassic.com/2006/rosters/index.jsp?sid=t944 Italy doesnt have one player on it (That I know) playing for Italy. So if they went by the rule that you have to be born in that country the Italian team wouldnt even exist. Same goes for the Netherlands. Both teams wouldnt have a shot.
  9. Well if thats the case why is Mike Piazza who was born in Norristown, PA playing for Italy? Frank Catalanotto was born in Smithtown NY is playing for Italy. David DeJesus born in Brooklyn NY is playing for Puerto Rico. Danny Haren born in Monterey Park, CA is playing for Netherlands same with Mark Mulder who was born in Chicago. All 5 of these players are playing for countries that they werent born or raised in. Should they be playing for those teams? Because if the anwser is no then the whole damn WBC is a sham.
  10. Guillen is just another blowhard. Just manage and shut up.
  11. Its intresting that you throw Showwalter in there because Showwalter might be the exact opposite of Torre. Great on the field but horrible in the clubhouse. There is a reason why hes never around to win with the team he helps build. He wears out his welcome. I'm the rare Yankee fan that agrees with you on Torre. Last year I could go chapter and verus on how bad he was at times last season. He would remove SP too soon and put the game in the hands of relivers like Wayne Franklin. It drove me nuts. BUT with that said I think Torre's in clubhouse management with the Yankees in particular is huge. With all of those all-stars in the clubhouse I think you need a guy like Torre and not a guy like Showalter who is a task master. Styles fit certain ball clubs, Torre fits with the Yankees.
  12. The funny thing is Cano hit WAY better on the road then at home. Its not even close take a look: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=6204 Its like 2 different players.
  13. yeah, its not like I expect Sox fans to like it.
  14. This coming from someone who has Julian Tavarez on his team. Be fair here.
  15. I agree 100%. I have said this before I would rather sign Damon and lose the draft picks rather then give up top prospects for a CFer. In the Yankees case I assume it would have been both Duncan and Hughes who Cleveland would have wanted plus prob Cano. I'd rather go the Damon route(which they did) then that.
  16. Taking 2 relivers in the 1st 2 rounds isnt the way I would draft. ESP in the MLB draft which is a crapshoot anyway.
  17. I actually have no problem with that selection because they took J Brent Cox in the next round anyway.
  18. I dont even disagree with you being hard on Pavano. He has ALOT to prove this upcoming season. I believe Wright is a FA at the end of the season because he ALREDY spent 75 days+ on the DL so maybe if he pitches well enough a team in need of SP takes a flyer on him knowing that they can drop him at the end of the season.
  19. I'm still hoping somehow someway we can get atleast Wright off the team. That was a BRUTAL decision by Tampa.
  20. Intresting nugget........The Oakland A's with the 24th pick overall in the 2002 draft took Joe Blanton. That pick was the Yankees which they gave up for Jason Giambi.
  21. NoMass as usual nailed it for the most part.
  22. ESPN.com has the payrolls but I dont know if they are exact.
  23. Yankees.com sucks, YESnetwork.com sucks and the moderator over there is a flat out joke, this place is one of the best baseball forums out there. Plus I like the angle of being a Yankee fan on Red Sox turf. It gives me a new feel for the rivalery.
