  1. Thats pretty much what its about. They have nothing to knock the Yankees about so let them bitch and moan about attendance at what has become a meaningless september game because their team couldnt keep up and has now thrown up the white flag.
  2. I'm still trying to figure out why I should care. BTW Magic # down to 20 aka Jorge Posada: http://users.erols.com/kcoblenz/1016PosadaTiesIt.JPG
  3. I believe its midnight. So they could actually start him and trade him after the game. However I think if they were to trade him they wouldnt start him.
  4. Yeah in the pregame yesterday they said Mussina will start either game 1 or game 2 in KC.
  5. It doesnt make much sense to start him. Find a starter from the minors thats on the 40 man roster and start him. Darrell Rasner is rehabing from a strained shoulder. I wonder if hes close to coming back because he would be a good person to start. Thank god Mussina is coming back in Kansas City.
  6. The Sox are about to trade David Wells which means even their front office thinks its over. As for the Blue Jays they prob are better then the Red Sox at this point and I wouldnt be suprised after this weekend if they passed the Red Sox. The bottomline is the sooner we clinch the better.
  7. I was reading a story regarding it on NYYFANS.com and it didnt sound that serious. However inflamation isnt going to get better if he keeps pitching through it. The sooner we clinch the better so Rivera, Proctor and Villone can rest up for the playoffs. Torre really needs to start using guys like Dotel and even Brian Bruney more.
  8. He has had that problem before. It made you wonder why Torre would say thing like "I wont use Rivera for 2 innings anymore" and he very quickly ruled Rivera out of the 2nd game of the DH.
  9. According to Fransworth he could have pitched. I dont get it. If you could have pitched whats the point of telling Torre your back "locked up". I dont get it.
  10. Between games Fransworth's back "locked up" on him.
  11. Heres a scouting report from Baseball America prior to this season: Strengths: Kottaras profiles as an offense-oriented catcher. He displays natural hitting instincts and commands the strike zone. He generates easy line-drive power with a quiet setup and fluid swing, projecting to hit 15-20 home runs annually. He’s athletic behind the plate and has plus arm strength. Weaknesses: Kottaras has a tendency to get pull-happy, and needs to focus simply on centering the ball and letting his strength work for him naturally. His arm plays only average because of a slow glove-hand exchange and a long release. He’s a bit small for a catcher, leaving some to wonder if he can handle the rigors of a full season. The Future: Kottaras’ bat separates him from the rest of San Diego’s catching prospects. He’ll begin 2006 back in Double-A and is on schedule to be the starter at the big league level by the end of 2007.
  12. 9 in the all important loss column.
  13. Also wtf happend to Dotel. Hes had more experience closing games then Proctor. What a bad job by Torre tonight.
  14. I have a funny feeling because of what happend to Franworth on Sunday Torre decided to pass over him. I hope Fransworth is hurt because this was THE worst decision by Torre all year long.
  15. Proctor blows it with 2 outs in the 9th. Where the hell was Fransworth? This only makes you appreciate Rivera more.
  16. Clearly it is speculative because there is no way to determine how a hitter would do with a certain hitter behind him. There is no concrete evidence however you see a situation where a pitcher tried to let a hitter get himself out. A pitcher instead of throwing a 2-0 fastball he will throw a 2-0 breaking ball. Again there is no way to really analyze that. Well you could see the Carmona thing coming. Ortiz is a great low ball hitter and because he stands right on top of the plate he gets great plate coverage plus in a 2-0 count you look fastball. Maybe if you insert Ortiz into todays lineup with Kevin Youkilis behind him Ortiz gets a 2-0 breaking ball. But again as you said its speculation. We might have gotten a little to deep into this. Now we are breaking down situational pitching etc.
  17. Thats pretty much my point. Dont you think Hafner's WPA would be higher if he had Manny hitting behind him as opposed to Victor Martinez? I saw eariler this year the former closer for the Guardians (I forgot his first name) Carmona fall behind Ortiz 2-0 in the count. I believe a base was open. Dont you think Manny had influence on the fastball Ortiz got? Its hard to have a definative yes or no but you have to figure overall Hafner would see better pitchers to hit with Manny behind him as opposed to Victor Martinez.
  18. When Kapler dove for that ball during the game it had me laughing pretty hard. I just had to get that GIF.
  19. For the past 10 years you can make a VERY strong case that Manny has been the best right handed hitter in baseball. Ortiz has a tendency to hit the big HR (You know the story), thus making him more popular. But Manny IMO is really what makes the Red Sox line up go.
  20. I think you could make a very strong case for him also. I know he is very valuable to Ortiz.
  21. Oh boy how on earth is he going to pay for that kind of damage?!?!?
  22. True, alot of these stats arent perfect even OPS isnt THAT perfect. I wasnt really all cought up that well on WPA. Its intresting reading some of the info on that site. But does WPA take into account the strength of the lineup the hitter hits in? I dont have to look at the stats to know Victor Martinez cant sniff Manny. I do think that in these clutch situation Manny does have an affect on the way the pitcher attacks Ortiz.
