  1. Someone on SOSH mentioned that Michael Felger mentioned Bartolo Colon is going to be making Tuesdays start for the Red Sox. He didn't mention who mentioned that to him. Mention mention mention. Colon Tuesday, woo hoo. He keeps pounding the zone, even if he is on a leash he should get through 6 and let the colon era begin already
  2. I think that is one of the most well thought out and plausible trades I've ever seen on this board. Kudos. I would love it if something to that effect happened.
  3. I don't think with numbers like that his stay at AAA is going to be too lengthy. sixteen days is time enough for two starts in the minors and a call up prior to the deadline. I don't think they will need to renegotiate. I think he is REALLY going to help us out. I'm excited. Come back player of the year candidate for sure.
  4. I can pretty much guarantee that they will let Pap walk if he continues his dominance over the next 3 years AND they have a viable option to turn to within the organization. It makes perfect sense.
  5. I think they'll be more willing to deal Coco if Van Every looks capable. Moss and Van Every could potentially provide every bit as much depth as Moss and Coco. It's just tough to deal from a position of strength when you see guys like Drew and Ellsbury being banged up as they are.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if the finger issue wasn't seriously and they were just giving him a breather to clear his head.
  7. I don't think he pouted. He got thrown out and he got pissed. At least someone is showing some emotion right now. They need a fire lit under them.
  8. The results look more like 2006, but I think when all is said and done, the 2008 version of Josh Beckett will remind most of 2007. His stuff has been very good, but sometimes it just doesn't work out for you. If he winds up with a 4.15 ERA at the end of the season, but gets most of his best work in during the second half of the season I don't think I will be complaining about April so long as we're in the playoffs.
  9. Thanks for being our "ace" josh. great showing tonight.
  10. Gah someone help me, how hurt is my beloved?
  11. What happened to Drew and how bad does it look?
  12. Hey don't blame them youk, their just mlb.com, they shouldn't be held accountable for silly things like knowing who won what award in baseball last year.
  13. Big K of Markakis. Sorry if I'm behind. Watching it on gameday
  14. Check out the typo on MLB.com. "Sox turn to the reigning AL Cy Young Award Winner"
  15. I grew up with severe ADD (thats obvious) and a fear of numbers. I'll get there. I've been too busy to put together any well thought out baseball arguements lately anyhow, I've got a 30 page paper on mental rotation (neurobiological correlates during mental rotation to be specific - aaaannnd i kinda wanna change majors) due at the end of may. woo hoo
  16. Nothing personal, I just have a friend back home who I talk baseball with a lot who is all "NUMBERS NUMBERS NUMBERS" so it gets old to me.
  17. I am ready for him to have a major role in the bullpen but I think that the closers role is going to be out of his reach no matter how well he performs. I expected big things from him last year, and the sleep aphnea was a really dissappointing set back. He has had big time stuff since he was drafted, its not by accident he made it to the majors in 05. It probably just went a little too fast for him. He is big time, but I think I am pretty happy with our closer situation. Papelbon is about as dominant as they come. The best strike out closer in the game right now. Having Hansen step into a set up role would be outstanding. I think our bullpen has a chance to become something special. Bullpens are a funny thing, and they need time to kind of take shape. In mid-season last year we had the best bullpen in baseball, we have all those parts returning, and a wild card in hansen. To say he is ready to audition for the closers role - role which we have filled quite nicely right now - is getting a little too optimistic. I think he is ready for high leverage innings though. This is looking way way ahead, but does anyone know if Hansen would be considered as having logged a full season of service time with his ups and downs between boston and pawtucket? I don't think he would. Which means if he sticks this would be considered his first full season under club control which means we have 6 more ahead of us and if his stuff stays sharp and he lives up to his potential, he could potentially push Papelbon out when he hits free agency. There wouldn't be any reason to spend the money on Papelbon ( and lets face it, there will be no home town discount with this guy) if Hansen is performing to his potential and could step in to the ninth inning role.
  18. I didn't read his entire post. You just exist to point out that I'm a lazy reader don't you. honestly, I read one sentence of JHBs posts, scan for numbers, find them, don't bother to read, and post. my post is edited at the bottom if you care to read it, now that you know I've actually done my homework you probably don't. Which is fine too. Basically I just accept umpires miscalls and bias as part of the game. I'm not advocating for a preferential strike zone, I just realize there isn't anything to be done about it and don't really care either way. It is the way it is, and probably won't ever change unless the game is umpired by computers or something. Its part of human error, which is a big part of baseball.
  19. Bert Blyleven was the twins broadcaster last night, I don't know if he always is, but I happened to watch on mlb.tv last night cause I was at work, and he was very impressed with Buchholz all night. He has sone fine tuning. I think that structured innings in the minor leagues to work on keeping his weight back and finishing his pitches will make him a huge addition to the staff come august. No numbers or research or other crap will convince me otherwise. Just like every minor league pitcher to come, I am the first to don the pom poms and start cheerleading for them, and Buchholz is no different. Loved him when we drafted him, had incredible numbers in college - so none of this is to say I don't think he is doing well, he has been unlucky, but he needs a send down as soon as it makes sense. Right now, if he can learn to finish his pitches and put his fastball in better spots, he could be dominant this season.
  20. Just heard Tito's mother in law passed. Millsy will be managing tonight and tomorrow. Shame, win one for the Franconas tonight.
  21. Re-match of the mothers day miracle starters. Hopefully this one won't be as close, and hopefully josh won't leav in the 4th inning.
  22. My brother is an umpire in the minors, my best friends dad is an umpire in the major leagues. Anecdotally, I know how they operate. They aren't the official rules, but rookies have to earn the corners. They have to develop a reputation in the bigs before they get the calls. Especially when someone consistently has trouble spotting their fastball, they don't get the benefit of the doubt. Umps rep partly based on reputation. Regardless of how much research you and your buddy dan wanna do, its what happens. edited post to make people happy: I don't accept the bias, there just isn't really much a way to change it. Some umpires feel like baseball gate keepers and you have to earn their strike calls. It sucks, sure, but the reason it doesn't bother me very much is that a lot of my love of the game comes from the human error involved in it. Umpires aren't perfect. Bias and blown calls come with the territory of giving umpires total control of the judgement of the game. I just accept it as part of the game.
  23. If by flying you mean crashing and burning into a pile of rubble.
  24. I know. I get that. When you're strike zone is the size of a quarter in the middle of the zone its tough. Do you think it is a coincidence though that from start to start his zone is squeezed? It's because umpires notice he has no fastball command so they make him work for his strikes. That's baseball.
  25. I am very confused. But no.
