Now thats alittle interesting, The Mets would have to send more than Benson. Hm, thats actually the first quality Migeul Tejada trade I've heard so far. What if the Mets sent Benson Milledge and Heilman to the O's, the sox would send them Manny, the O's would send them Jorge Julio, and the Sox would recieve Tejada. My big issue with this is that although Tejada is a beast, he would have to bat infront of Ortiz to maximize production out of the two, but I guess if we're talking a Damon Loretta Tejada Ortiz line up, who cares.

Clemens to the Red Sox? (go out the right way)
ksushi replied to Bostons_Finest's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I like Clemens, great pitcher, but his sox days are behind him. He'll play for the US in the WBC and call it a career. -
I doubt the sox execs will waste much time on this outside of a phone call. This will require prospects and in my opinion, I'd rather keep them.
-
You can't give up ANY of the untouchables for Tejada, end of story in my opinion.
-
Pitching is hard to come by champ. The red sox fully believe they have themselves an ace in lester. I highly doubt the red sox will be thinking "Hey we have hitting, we need pitching and we will for the forseeable future too but lets put that aside because Tejada said he likes us, I bet lester will write us from baltimore, it will be like he never left"
-
The only legitimate deal is Manny for Tejada and that only makes sense because they both want to leave and they both have obsene contracts. this will not happen. the sox will not deal their future, if youve paid attention the sox want to keep their prospects and will not deal them away for one or two shots at a world series when they are fairly confident they may have stumbled on to the makings of dare I say, a dynasty? No, I'm not so bold, but I do think they have stumbled on a team that will compete for many many years and could at some point win in back to back years with the power bullpen developing and the young staff currently loading up. Marte will be a marque hitter backing a rotation of Beckett Papelbon and Lester 3 years from now with Hansen slamming the door. I would not trade that for Tejada.
-
Hm, this sounds familiar. Hey I have this awesome idea, lets trade our future away for ONE GUY who is a great player, for two guys who are probably going to be great in marte and lester. oh but wait, what is this? i think ive had an epiphany, why have i not seen this before? is it because it was buried by a triple post? who knows, but who ever posted this makes a lot of sense and is probably very handsome. I'm getting the sudden urge to want to... keep prospects? One guy can't win us a world series? Oh.... my. Salary.... more is bad.... long contracts.... bad. This is amazing. PS - unrelated, did you really group youkilis and marte together?
-
You should go back and read threads before you post what people have already been talking about for a couple of pages, and no marte would not look good in orange and black, but I think red and white really brings out his eyes.
-
Erm, at that time Curt Schilling was just a mildly touted prospect with a decent fastball and some poise. So, thats not at all the kind of deal we're talking about with Tejada.
-
Look people need to settle down, just because he said he wants to get traded and wants to get traded to Boston does not mean all of a sudden youre future doesnt mean anything and you give it all up for him. This guy does not guarentee a world series win, he doesn't even fully replace manny offensivley. To maximize production he is not protecting ortiz, but ortiz would need to bat clean up to protect him which means that they will not produce offensivley the way manny and ortiz did so your lineup is down graded. You defense is upgraded, BUT I'd prefer to upgrade the defense via free agency and keep manny. Although I might do a Manny for Tejada deal given the right finances, Tejada was just involved in a slight steroid scandal although nothing too serious, I just want to use that to kill the collective hard on for this guy. He isn't worth lester, he isnt worth papelbon nor marte nor pedroia, no. He is not worth the future. I know, Tejada Ortiz and Manny 3-4-5 sounds better than getting in what bill clinton wouldn't call sex from the hot weather lady on channel 5, but it actually isn't. Shes really hot, and this guy isn't worth the future. Why does everyone always want to trade lester?

Baseball prospectus is separate list from Baseball America. I know he hasn't been number one on BA, but he was #1 on the prospectus this year, or maybe last, I'm not sure but I believe it was this year. Either way we are talking some high positions on a couple of really exclusive lists here. I personally think the sox just stumbled on to a gold mine here. Why are teams emptying their pockets when the sox enter the room at these meetings? We got Loretta for nothing, Mota for nothing, and now one of the top prospects in baseball for relativley nothing. This guy KILLS Milledge, and it would have cost us Manny to get him. This is a steal. If potential were people, Marte is china. I don't see us shipping him for Tejada so forget that for now, someone this close to producing in the majors typically doesn't change teams unless there is some serious pitching going the opposite way in the deal. I don't think there is any pitchers available on the market right now who warrant trading a beast like this. Atlanta was backed into a corner when they agreed to not move Chipper off of third base for the next five years and with LaRoche at first base. With a desperate need for a SS with offensive potential they had to do this deal and once again a team decided to grab their ankles for the red sox GM Triumvirate or quadumvirate, whatever, I had to make a clever sodomy reference somewhere. The sox won't doing any ankle grabbing any time soon, they will hang on to this kid I think, Lajoie said they have no plans to send him anywhere and that he could even start the season at first base.
-
Nomar would not be a good option for SS considering what they are going for. Defense.
-
I don't know if you can bring relievers back for a fat body 3rd basement like youk. He has a gut that only his drafting team can love. But yeah, he has a good obp and could be packaged with say david wells for say... justin duchscherer?
-
We're not shipping him anywhere, how does one of the top ten prospects on baseball america, number one on baseball prospectus, not fit? We have lowell for two years, and Marte has expierience at 1st base. It fits. It fits quite nicely. This guy also has outfield expierience, hell I bet he has front office expierience, I wonder if he can rebound cause the Celtics could use a guy there too maybe he could swing by. He fits, I highly doubt there is anything in the works to swing him. If they do, they better reel in a top notch pitcher. Atlanta made their move out of need, we don't have the immediate need to fill any position with plenty of offense and some viable short stop options on the market, we are keeping this guy.
-
Ahhcon, I was making a comparison as to the type of throwback 3rd basement this guy projects to be. Read what I said alittle more carefully, Im not insinuating that Marte will be a hall of famer, but I am saying that his stats and style of play reflect that of an old school corner guy with promise. I'm not jumping on the Marte bandwagon, as a full time John Smoltz worshipper its my duty to also be a part time Braves fan and I sing the praises of their farm system whenever I get a chance. Any prospect from that system is worth whatever you pay because their scouting and coaching is top notch from top to bottom in that system and they turn out some great players. I've known about Marte for awhile, the same way I've known about Franceour for awhile. I decided Marte will be very good and that Franceour would burn out and wasn't as talented... and then he got called up and i ate my words as I put him on my fantasy team and am keeping him for next year *whistles* but yeah the marte bandwagon in andy town has long since been rolling.

Tek has no trade protection. Why would we trade our captain anyways? PIPE DREAM! BAD TRIP!
-
Stop with all these pipe dreams for trade proposals. If I see one more every crap player on the red sox and one guy who is ok for the best player in universe, im going to cry. The sox have no shot at this. None, ZERO. Unless the Orioles decide they want manny. Its would work out money wise and then it would make the whole trading a franchise player within the division thing doable because they'd also be getting a monster. That won't happen I don't think. The sox will not trade them what they will want, they won't give up their future for this guy. Don't get too excited, i know its hard, but I would not be giving up Marte for anyone outside of a knock out pitcher like a healthy mark prior or a roy oswalt. NO MORE ACID FLASHBACK TRADES!
-
Pedroia isn't a short stop although there is some speculation they might move him back. (I think its possible but not if they get a fill in shortstop this year) So put me in the Alex Gonzalez camp, or the "trade for a guy who we haven't thought of yet" camp. If those camps are full I'll settle for the "Not Nomar" one.
-
I don't think Marte is really a Cabrera like guy though. What I've read about him makes me think of Chavez. Cabrera is more of a contact hitter with power, Marte is a power hitter who needs to make contact on a more consistent basis, and he will, but I think we're looking at a career .270 guy who will hit some serious bombs and play some great defense. He might hit .300 a couple times because he has some serious hitting talent, but thats not his game. Remind you of anybody? (hint, click the word anybody and it will show you who it should remind you of)
-
JimmyCarter are you a member at sons of sam horn? You should be. You should PM me there cause man i love everything you say. Annnyyyyways, someone mentioned Felipe Lopez, that makes me happy. Yes. Heres the thing, I think you have to keep Marte as he is an excellent talent. I don't care about what numbers hes had this kid has tools. He is in need of some coaching and is in now way a contact hitter, but man if he can learn to shorten his swing up this kid will be deadly. He will learn that too, hes made huge strides to adjust to his competition, and will do the same in the ML. This kid is a top talent, twice the talent of Hanley Ramirez. He's a must keep. Also, David Wells MUST bring you back bullpen help, and he won't get you anyone from san diego, as they don't have the payroll. I think he is headed to the dodgers or the A's, and he will bring back a quality bullpen guy. So that being said, Youkilis could go back home to Cincinatti, and that could be a part of the deal but not the whole deal. I think Lopez is a huge talent and perhaps a shoppach and an arroyo packaged in with youk could get that done. However, I only do that if wells brings back a reliever with some serious potential for this year. someone please give me feed back my posts get ignored

actually i like clayton too, i think hes a good player and wouldnt be too bad of an option. What is his range like though? Not making errors doesn't make your pitching better, but ranging and not making errors does improve the pitching, yes.
-
I know i've said that im alittle intruiged by Nomar, i'm not intruiged by him at SS. I really think that has no chance of happening. That said, I think David Wells still has to bring pitching back when we trade him and I certainly hope they plan on keeping Marte. You can't always have your cake and eat it too but I think Marte is great. I could see Cora back at short because they are looking for a defensive player because the sox feel a good defensive shortstop will improve the pitching and offense doesn't mean much. With that out there, I could see them pursuing Pokey Reese, A trade for Jack WIlson or Maicer Izturis. Lugo isn't going to happen, don't worry. But what the hell about first base? I heard a rumor about Huff, but I heard something on EEI last night that was intruiging too. One of the hosts said that if we acquired Marte, he would be playing at fenway next year with Lowell moving to first base. The sox are apparently really high on Marte and think he can play this year. It would make sense and justify their lust for a defensive short stop alittle more because that would shore up all four spots on the infield with Marte having exceptional glove skill.

Alfonso Soriano traded to the Nationals
ksushi replied to SchillingIsTheNatural's topic in Other Baseball
What a horrible deal. Wilkerson isn't a bad player but I would have thought Soriano would have landed them more. -
I don't think we will miss out on Damon. I think Damon has no market. He'll come here for something like 4 years maybe 5 and 45 million maybe 55 tops. This Damon thing changes direction everyday though, who knows tomorrow he might be out the door on his way to detroit. edit- why arent the chws more interested after losing rowand?
-
Does anybody else think they might be re-grooming Pedroia for SS? He did play some games there at Pawtucket this year, and there was talk of the sox liking him better from shortstop because he has some arm for a little guy, and then they trade for a 2B. Who knows, maybe he just needs one more year of AAA
