  1. I was missing somebody. Wow, what a rotation. I think contreras really has his feet underneath him now too, wow. Jesus. Just when I thought the A's had the best rotation...
  2. Wouldn't McCarthy be their five? Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, Vazquez and McCarthy. Or am I missing somebody? I probably am.
  3. I wouldn't worry about it, I think Damon want to be a Red Sock. Yeah, trading for hinske or shea doesn't make the red sox any better. The last thing we will trade youk for is another 3rd basemen, so I think that those guys are probably ruled out despite both of them playing both corners. I think youk will end up in a deal with wells for a reliever.
  4. Chris Young is an impressive prospect, but I like this deal for the ChiSox as well for at least the next few seasons. If Young turns out to be a 30/30 guy in the bigs, its still a good deal if the Sox win a world series in the mean time. This rotation is filthy if Jon Garland can repeat his 05 season.
  5. If i were the president of the yankees I would come on message boards and make a lot of one line posts or posts that consist of nothing but smiley faces.
  6. ohhh ouch, i usually dont care much for forum fights, but this is great. someone get out the ban stick.
  7. Why isn't he banned? ^
  8. 1. Re-sign bernie as a fourth outfielder simply just because I wouldn't feel right having him play for anybody else and he would serve as quite the mentor for all the youngsters i would bring in. 2. ... and here come the youngsters. I would trade Mussina. Pavano, Wright, Sheff, Giambi, and Posada for prospects marlins style. Bring up Phillips, Crosby (already sort of up), Duncan, and Melky Cabrera. I go gum and glue this season. 3. Do not sign nomar. Bad move. 4. Beef up the scouting and player development. Not everyone would blow up the team, I would though, I'm crazy.
  9. Yeah, I'm gonna butt in here, but I read your post and that relies heavily on the success of two relativley unproven pitchers. Thats assuming BJ ryan (40 something career saves at 30 years old) can shut the door consistently. He has the most hurky jerky ugly delivery I have ever seen. He will have elbow problems like most side armers, and unlike most side armers ( or any pitcher) he doesn't really use his legs. Not good. But yeah, thats off topic. BJ and AJ are unproven guys, can AJ put it together and stay healthy and can BJ show you more of last year. We don't know yet. They added two very solid, but very shaky parts. Nothing incrediblty dependable. I would have preferred a billy wagner and an esteban loaiza, or a matt morris. Sure, BJ is flashy right now, so were Kevin Appier and Chan Ho Park. No one knows how these guys will pan out. There are if's in everything.
  10. If henry wants to invest this kind of money into this season than power to him. Its not like we'd be giving clemens a 5 year deal with burnett money, its a one year "hey why the hell not" kind of signing. If he wants to, why not? This is the exact situation where we can say its his money let him do what makes him feel happy with it. It has no long term ramifications on the team, and would make the sox very very competitive this year. If Clemens wants to come back to Boston and be away from his home, great. I think he'll play in the WBC and hang up the spikes. But hey, anything can happen, pedro is a met and doug mienkewitcz stole our world series ball. Weird.
  11. Who cares, honestly, if he thinks hes going to beat the red sox and the yankees, great! good for him. He looks like howdy doodie and is a mediocre player with a lofty ego. Why is everyone so up in arms over this? I'm glad he said it, I love our little scuffles with tampa, and I would love bad blood with the blue jays too. At least their competitive. Do you want them to compliment us or something? He said we should have spent money like the jays, the truth is he's wrong. I love our offseason, and the FO's baseball philosophy is going to prove to be a better more long lasting one than signing a couple of over priced unproven pitchers and giving up our farm system to trade for a stiff like overbay. The jays did get sexually assaulted in that trade btw. If the sox gave up Lester to get him, and paid BJ Ryan and Burnett that kind of money, and overbay scheduled a conference to talk about how awesome those moves were, I would advocate his departure right here as soon as I got wind of it. The Jays made moves that will put them in a hole down the road. Who cares.
  12. I know, I'm not defending Renteria, he was garbage. I think he was hurt and he was clearly out of shape. If he were an out of shape corner guy, it wouldn't have been a big deal because playing the corner doesn't require the athleticism that the middle does. So, blaming it on the park is bush league. It's ok, at least he liked the fans.
  13. Well, yeah Overbay is a tactless tool, and he was a big mouth on Milwaukee too, it just wasn't publicized at all really... cause it was in Milwaukee. Kinda like when a tree falls in the woods and there isn't anybody there to see it or hear it, do the Brewers really exsist? Ok, so he's a tool. No tact. Yeah, but what do we want him to say "I have very little confidence in my new team despite their spending, blah blah, boy the sox do have a good farm system and maybe Randy Johnson isn't as ugly as they say" His team will finish third, but when you get traded you're supposed to be kind of a cheer leader.
  14. Well Mueller had more expierience in fenway and fielding third base is soooo much different than short. Even for professionals, you need to a top quality fielder to handle that position. 3rd base doesn't require half of the range of short. I play third and I have the range of a dead giraffe and I can play a pretty good third. That said, Mueller is a beast and renteria isn't. Isn't fenway reputed for its "true hops" and good fielding infield? I thought it was.
  15. You're not understanding my point. If indeed the O's decide to trade him, it will not be for another inflated contract, but instead they will blow up the team, re-invent the franchise and certainly will not be looking to take on a 34 year old manny ramirez who is owed 54 million dollars over the next 3 years. If indeed they do decide to trade Tejada, its not as simple as you're making it sound. It isn't a "Hey you have a guy who hates you, and we have a guy who hates us, wanna swap and see if it works out?" If you think baseball execs are going to trade based on that and not based on their own team needs, then you must be pretty niave. Sure, Tejada is a shortstop and the sox need one. Yeah, he wants to leave and so does manny. The O's needs and the sox needs in the end won't draw a match. This isn't that simple. I stand by this, the only way Tejada comes to the Red Sox is if there is a 3rd team involved that will take manny and send prospects to the O's. I really have no intentions of posting in this again, its pretty clear cut, this is just too complicated to get done and is nothing more than a pipe dream. I mean seriously, you have to know that you're dreaming. In dreams everything works out nice, but we've seen what a lineup of AllStars can get you, look at new york. Do you want your team to regress like that? Put the pieces together, trading the farm system for all stars never really works out. The Yankees were successful when they were bringing up home grown talent, same of the Big Red Machine, and other winning teams. The sox are starting to get into that trend, don't wish it all away. So with that I bid this thread adieu and goodbye, or whatever that means. The Tejada idea sucks. Lets go sign Alex Gonzalez and you guys should really all relax on the pot.
  16. won't happen unless you get a third team. three team deals fall apart a lot. thats really all you can say. The O's aren't going to trade him but if they do its going to be to blow up their roster and inject some youth into that system, so in other words no big fat contracts like Manny. Guess what, I'm not willing to trade the youth it would take to get that guy. If Marte doesn't get you Lugo, I shudder to think the obsene price tag that will be on Tejada. Forget it.
  17. Stop with these horrible trade talks. I'm now boycotting this thread there is not substance in it at all. GARBAGE!
  18. actually, champ, there payroll is going to be shaping up to be more around the 110 mark than 150. And i care because i love my sox and don't want them throwing away money on a s***** shortstop like garciaparra. Thats right, he is s*****. As a utility man, hes good, as a fully time shortstop there is no chance for him to be effective. To improve the pitching they are better off either leaving the job to Cora or signing a Gonzalez. Garciaparra's risk is ">>>>>>>>>>>>>>" than the reward. So, that is why the hell I care.
  19. Trading away marte isn't going to happen. Can we stop with the trading prospects for this guy thing? It isn't going to happen, its just boring throwing out all these trade proposals like this. None of them will happen so lets come down to earth for a little while.
  20. overreact much? Its not like the red sox didnt get to give the guy a physical. Its a rumor. I have not heard mention of this ANYWHERE. I don't think this is true.
  21. outside as in if they worked a 3 team that didnt fall apart. very unlikely, relax champ. cabin fever getting to you with all this snow?
  22. There is an outside shot, but this is very unrealistic.
  23. yeah, I'd pay a guy 5 million a year to hurt his groin and not even come sit on the bench. I'd love to.
  24. Thank god you don't run the sox. The price of pitching these days is very high, because it is rare, so that is all the more reason why paying out big bucks for hitters really isn't the road to be taking. Pitching is expensive because its no where to be found. You can't trade lester because pitching is so crucial, you can't trade marte because marte can bring you back more than Tejada. Marte could realistically fetch you a Oswalt or a Ben Sheets type guy. Tejada is not worth giving up your franchise for. He doesn't put this team over the hump in anyway. Learn from the Yankees, all that hitting can't get you anywhere if you can't stop the other guy from scoring which is why all these #2 and 3 starters are getting miguel tejada money. What we need is some more bullpen help and a solid defensive shortstop who won't cost you an arm and a leg. Don't get distracted by shiny objects, they usually cost too much and you look stupid drooling over them. There is no way you keep manny and get tejada, so it is a choice between the two. I personally think the untouchables are exactly that untouchable no matter who you are talking about barring a puljols or felix hernandez. I like the idea of a three way deal with the mets and O's that could work out, but then there is the thing where the O's probably won't trade him within the division unless they land themselves a manny ramirez. Big 3 team deals fall apart easily and I really think the sox only have an outside shot at this.
  25. hahahahaha, nice renteria joke. but yeah hes young, its a set back, but we don't even know if it is true it may not be. I think something like this may have held up a deal for him. If we're finding it out now the sox would have known about it long before, all players have to pass physicals to make a deal complete. So yeah, I'm not putting much stock in this one.
