  1. i don't want a game 5.....at least not with clement pitching!
  2. uh oh..not the best way to gain momentum...
  3. Agreed! I am very impressed with Papelbon's poise. I do hope that he can continue pitching well into the end of October!
  4. I guess Palmeiro will be the newest member of the 'witness protection program'----i'd want him in my neighborhood pickup game!
  5. when it rains...it pours! "Ambulance Up" should be the new phrase.
  6. Unfortunately, I think Tito will be back next year, regardless of what happens. However, it would be really a breath of fresh air if Francona just started using the best players at a given situation and not be beholden to his rigidity. One can only dream, right?
  7. There is an old saying: insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. Manny Ramirez not running out grounders, Terry Francona's inability to be creative at this point in the season with his league-leading worst bullpen... We should not be surprised.
  8. The following post has nothing to do with last night's game, or how ineffective David Wells was. What exactly is Dave Wallace's role during a game (or any pitching coach for that matter)? Is it to make sure that the pitcher and catcher are in synch? Is the pitching coach responsible for who is warming up? For who replaces a pitcher at a given point during a game? How much does Terry Francona consult with Dave Wallace? Does Terry Francona delegate well? Too little? Too much? I know I may sound naive, but the way that the Red Sox have been handling pitchers sometimes seems curious. But, of course, we don't know all the 'inside' stuff that may be going on.
  9. Both called up for tonight. Baptism by fire, eh?
  10. I will feel much better once we get our best lineup out there. Damon is the straw that stirs the drink...
  11. Better that Johnny rest up and get healthy but we also need him in the lineup. At least we have more options due to the 9/1 call up from the minors.
  12. What's on second?
  13. Ah distractions....just worry about this weekend and let the chips fall where they may.
  14. Guess Palmeiro is done for the year? I wonder if he had wanted to continue on in Baseball in some capacity (bench coach, batting instructor)? I guess he might consider counseling young athletes on the perils of getting caught...um, I mean against using drugs.
  15. The platoon makes much more sense now that Millar is contributing offensively. Olerud's great bat and defense makes Tito's choice difficult sometimes, but at least Millar seems to have awakened from his season-long slumber.
  16. Ortiz is what is good about baseball. He seems to really enjoy the game and the fans who adore him. Manny on the other hand....
  17. Tito must also love him too because there is NO drama with him. Just send him out and he will take care of things. Time for another winning streak.
  18. seems like this board is devolving (at least this post). Can't we just agree to disagree without the name calling?
  19. Brown is out for the year and the yanks just called up Mendoza. Now Belhorn can officially meet the Mendoza line face-to-face.
  20. Was surprised that Wells didn't get his supspension reduced; is not surprised about Giambi's surge...fears Matsui the most of all Yankees and thinks the Sox are a better hitting ball club than the Yanks...
  21. Tito about to be interviewed by Dan Patrick on Espn Radio (3:17pm). Should be interesting to hear his take on Wells and also the Yankees (Patrick is to ask him about both). http://espnradio.espn.go.com/espnradio/index
  22. I am worried more about the potential of another bench-clearing brawl that seems to happen at least once a year with these teams. We can ill-afford more injuries or suspensions!
  23. I am sure that Theo and company wishes he would just pitch and keep quiet...but they knew when they got him that he was 'passionate' and could sometimes go off. I hope his diatribe doesn't cost him any more time off.
  24. Seems like the Red Sox never get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to suspensions. I would love to know if the umpires ever get this kind of treatment? Pitching has got to improve during this homestand or else it might be a very long winter.
