  1. I just find it funny that we both used the word tactician at the same time when it hadn't been mentioned at all up to this point
  2. I think a lot of people would compare that aspect of Francona's job to be just as irrelevant as Varitek's "intangibles" believing that the only important part of the manager's job is to be a good on-field tactician
  3. the A's have DFAed Eveland
  4. From CHB... One of the things that go unnoticed when people judge Francona as a manager
  5. you forgot Beckett's line: Beckett: W #10, 6.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 run (earned), 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 1 home run. ERA down to 3.62
  6. Beckett finishes the regular season with 19.5 wins. Under Bay finishes the regular season with 129.5 RBI. Over Ellsbury finishes the regular season with 69.5 stolen bases. Under Ortiz finishes the regular season with a .250 AVG. Over Lowell finishes the regular season with 119.5 games played. Under Lowrie finishes the regular season with 59.5 games played. Over Smoltz finishes the regular season with 6.5 wins. Over
  7. your ace's arm will fall off in August
  8. Great story. Compelling and rich.
  9. normally I look for every opportunity to use this... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y168/cdnmarty/gladiatorban.jpg but I like a700 and I'd like him to stay
  10. Bedard and Washburn have a lot to do with that and we didn't face either
  11. Buchholz, Bowden, Anderson, Kelly and Hagadone for Teahen
  12. pink watermelon hat to you

  14. welcome. for the record, I like NYC
  15. it was fairly obvious with the lineup we had last night and the way Anderson was pitching that if Smoltz s*** the bed, the Sox had no chance
  16. already taken, tuffguy
  17. ohhhhh, Gommy thinks highly of our little single A prospect...
  18. did Gom take over CB's team or something? EDIT: nvm, just got myself learned in the discussion thread
  19. For the record, the Sox were supposed to be facing Dallas Braden tonight but he returned home yesterday to be with his grandmother, who suffered a heart attack
  20. its a valid point. I dont think most people are comfortable with any combination of Lugo/Lowrie/Green playing the left side of the infield full-time
  21. I think it would become more of a sideshow than anything and hopefully Nomar would be able to rise above that
  22. I wanna know what kind of post-departure "character assassination" hasn't been justified because as far as I know, the same things were being said about said players while they were still in uniform. Francona reprimanding Petey for leaving the ballpark early after his first start in '04 came out long before he signed with the Mets for example.
  23. if you picked tonight to attend your one game at Fenway all year.......lulz
