    well, Weaver hasn't pitched yet this year after being injured most of the spring and he's facing a team with hot bats right now. This might be the best time to face him

    Toronto closer B.J. Ryan was placed on the 15-day DL today with an elbow injury. The move comes a day after Ryan blew his second save in 4 chances this season. Jason Frasor will take over closing duties. Good news for the Sox as they head into a series with the Jays this week

    a good fastball is less about speed than about location and action on the ball. That's what makes Papelbon's FB more effective than Beckett's but Felix was just sick yesterday. great FB, unbelievable curve and a slider that just fell off the table

    Tito did manage Beckett pretty well today. It's still early in the season and with cold weather and long breaks in between innings, limiting Beckett to 7 innings and 84 pitches was a good idea. No need to wear him out with a 13 run lead despite the fact that he probably would've had a complete game with a reasonable pitch count

    can someone tell me what Beckett's pitch selection is like today? Is he all fastball or is he keeping batters on their toes like he did in his first outing?

    must feel nice for Beckett to be getting incredible run support today though this guy Woods for the Mariners has an ERA of 35.00 now

    the offense will warm up along with the weather. i can imagine it would be tough getting accustomed to Florida weather for several weeks and then having to play 3 games in a chilly KC

    I love the line in the Extra Bases blog on the last run: The Sox lead 2-0 after Julio Lugo just doubled to lead off the fifth against Zack Greinke. With Kevin Youkilis up, Lugo attempted a steal of third and drew an errant throw from catcher John Buck, scoring Lugo. Imagine that: the Sox manufactured a run.

    has there ever been a more anticipated game this early into the season? id say MAYBE the home opener in '05 with the ring ceremony but people mainly looked forward to the ceremony itself more than anything
