  1. ********, the Yankees can't afford not to keep A-Rod
  2. if it isn't Papelbon, I'd say its J.J. Putz
  3. I don't see how you send MDC down after he's been pitching like this, but he and Lopez are the only ones with options. The only other thing they can do is either DFA Pineiro or Timlin
  4. this might've been an issue if A-Rod was gonna end up making more than Jeter after the extension is negotiated but A-Rod already makes more than Jeter so I'd say that's a non-issue. Besides, Clemens came in and makes more than Jeter and I think Giambi also makes more.
  5. Scott Boras has come out and said he has no intention of negotiating during the season
  6. there's nothing to "buy", it's fact. Beckett pitched 2 days ago and Dice pitched 4 days ago. The rest of them have been well-rested and if they're on the bench much longer, risk being over rested for their next start
  7. Papi is saying his lack of power is cause of the pitches he's seeing and not the knee. he's getting everything up and away
  8. John Turturro as Billy Martin looks like Mr. Peepers http://barstoolsports.com/_images/articles/2006/12/22/mrpeepers.jpg
  9. MVP-- Kevin Youkilis Cy Young-- Josh Beckett Best Glove-- Coco Crisp Best Catch-- Hinske vs. Detroit Best Rookie callup standout-- Jacoby Ellsbury Best Game-- Green jersey game vs. New York Best Moment-- Back to Back to Back to Back homeruns against the Yankees Disappointment of a Position Player-- Julio Lugo Disappointment of a Pitcher-- Mike Timlin 1st Half Comeback Position Player-- Dustin Pedroia 1st Half Comeback Pitcher-- Dice-K Most Underrated Player-- Dustin Pedroia
  10. Regardless of the reasoning, Haren has been better than Beckett. besides, I'd rather Beckett not have to pitch 2-3 innings as opposed to the 1 inning
  11. I wonder which grandma he rolls out for an excuse this time
  12. its the big muscle on the front of your leg stretching from your groin to the knee pretty much and on a side note, gotta love mlb.tv out of town announcers Tiger homer announcer 1: "The Red Sox are sending 6 players to the all-star game whereas the Tigers are only sending 5." Tiger homer announcer 2: "That just ain't right. we went to the world series and we have less"
  13. Ortiz is sitting tonight, the official lineup is: 1. Coco Crisp, CF 2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B 3. Mike Lowell, 3B 4. Manny Ramirez, DH 5. Jason Varitek, C 6. J.D. Drew, RF 7. Wily Mo Pena, LF 8. Jeff Bailey, 1B 9. Julio Lugo, SS Pena, Bailey and Lugo at the bottom. I don't wanna say they're mailing it in but...
  14. I don't think Pena plays first or third at all. The plan is for Hinske to play first most of the time while Youk is out and I'd doubt they'd use Papi
  15. im gonna guess this for the lineup.... Coco Pedroia Ortiz Manny Drew Lowell Tek Bailey Lugo
  16. Andrew Miller was Daniel Bard's teammate at UNC who was drafted very high in the first round if I'm not mistaken, right?
  17. he's also on a team that is decent but let's be honest, they aren't going anywhere for another 2-3 years anyway and no contending team is gonna take a risk on him and trade for him
  18. 43 years old, 3 trips to the DL this season with back issues. wouldnt be the most surprising news in the world if he retired
  19. good call by Terry and Theo then, Beckett is probably worth $18-$20 million right now
  20. he's just a backup for Hinske for the weekend anyway, probably won't see any playing time
  21. nice stats but staying within context, it's still A ball. should be interesting to see what he does once he starts climbing the ranks
  22. Just announced on EEI is that Jeff Bailey has been called up from Pawtucket to take Jacoby Ellsbury's spot on the roster. Bailey is a first baseman so this move likely means Kevin Youkilis will miss this weekend's series against the Tigers and be held out until after the all-star break with a sore quad. Bailey's stats at Pawtucket this season are .250 BA, .358 OBP, 9 HRs, 40 RBIs, 6 SB in 268 ABs
  23. I'd be nervous about dealing Coco before this off-season cause we'd be relying on a rookie at CF who just made his debut for the stretch run in a season where we have a very good shot at winning it all. But if you do that, you're hoping Coco keeps his stock value high and maybe takes a .285-.290 average into the off-season. but if they wanna get rid of WMP and a mid-level prospect and get a 4th outfielder in return and keep Ellsbury for the stretch run as another spare outfielder/pinch runner, I'd be fine with that
