  1. It seems like just yesterday we all followed intently the events surrounding the negotiation of Theo Epstein's contract and the events that led to his abrupt departure and eventual return to the Red Sox. It's become common knowledge that the reason for all the drama was because of Epstein's relationship with Larry Lucchino and the difficulties he had working with him. Well, that three-year deal expires after this season. According to an SI article last week, sources indicate the Sox will have no trouble keeping Epstein this time around and don't expect a repeat of three years ago due to the added power Epstein was given with the new deal. But then again, no one expected the Sox to have any trouble keeping Epstein three years ago so the question is, how worried are you about Epstein remaining the GM of the Sox?
  2. Can Tek really expect a higher annual salary than he's earned over the last 4 years? Two years at $7 mil a year is what I'd expect
  3. which always translates great when typing on a message board...
  4. those are very good points but people have been talking about the Rays dropping off for months now and it hasn't really happened so I wouldn't count on it
  5. Tampa won't falter, regardless of what their schedule is like the rest of the year. They'll lose a game or two here and there but it will still be up to the Sox to maintain their current level of play if they wanna take over the division
  6. I would be curious to see how much Theo would have to spike Scott Boras' drink to get him to agree to a deal like that.
  7. in hindsight, how big was that catch by Ellsbury?
  8. I caught WEEI asking Tito something about that so I guess it's legit
  9. he also pouted enough to have his options dropped so now he can finally play for a new deal in the off-season
  10. it's such a copout for you to say that once you get in the playoffs, it's basically a lottery as to who wins. Regardless of the track record of Weaver, Suppan, etc., those guys showed up in the playoffs maybe Cashman would give his team a better shot in the postseason if he didn't sign a guy who hits like a pitcher in the playoffs to a decade-long quarter-billion dollar contract
  11. nah, he'll be throwing as hard as Jamie Moyer when he comes back
  12. I hear the Sox are 3-1 favorites tonight, which is ridiculous for baseball
  13. I still think his right arm will make it to home plate before his fastball one day
  14. I wish you hadn't turned to alcohol....especially during the day
  15. With the kind of money he has to work with, quite frankly I'd expect more as a Yankees fan than just making the playoffs. I'm sorry, the playoffs are NOT a crapshoot. Pitching is what wins in the playoffs and the Yankees haven't had a decent starting rotation for several years now which can be directly linked to the multiple first round flameouts. Point to the last several WS champions: 2007 - Red Sox - Beckett was disgusting, Schilling was great, Dice-K and Lester had clutch starts 2006 - Cardinals - Marquis, Suppan, etc. came out of nowhere to turn into Cy Young-calibre pitchers 2005 - White Sox - Dominant rotation from top to bottom 2004 - Red Sox - Schilling was terrific, Pedro was great, Lowe showed up big time 2003 - Marlins - Beckett's coming out party Amazing what an 8-year WS drought does to a fanbase's standards
  16. the uncertainty the Yankees keep displaying in how to deal with this kid would make me uneasy if I were a Yankees fan
  17. Pedroia is your AL Player of the Week btw
  18. I dont see what Cashman can hang his hat on in terms of job performance. He won a couple of World Series with other people's teams and has just been foolishly spending money for several years now with an astounding lack of success
  19. the pitching matchup seems so mismatched tonight that its too good to be true
  20. thats a debate id put on the backburner until we see how Beckett does
  21. Quentin will take it even though anyone who watches baseball realizes Pedroia is far more valuable to the Reds than Quentin is to the Whites the fact that Pedroia was able to hit a pitch like the one he got bases loaded in the 6th will drive any pitcher absolutely nuts
