  1. Mirabelli is what he is a great back-up / catcher for Wakefield and an occasional display of pop offensively. He not an everyday catcher or a 300 hitter, most teams would love to have him.
  2. It works both ways, meaning knowing when to run and when not to.
  3. Thanks for the information, I'm not a lawyer. I didn't want the site or a poster to get in trouble. Thanks
  4. That's not the only reason. There seems to be a lack of " heads up " base running. Simple things that indicate you head is in the game. Actually "running" with two outs, I don't know how many times runners have gone half way ( why ? afraid to make the 4th out ). Runners not taking the extra base on a throw through or missed cutoff ( they should end up at second - without a steal, walk or single to advance ). Failure to run on a weak arm ( hell they do it on Damon ALL the time, also Manny because of his Manny being Manny attitude, but occasionally he decides to make a play, hence all the put-outs ). Not run on B. Williams arm ? I'd chance it. All I'm saying if you have the potential and or opportunities you have to take advantage to achieve your potential.
  5. You might be right, but we'll never know, because the circumstances drove a different senerio.
  6. Technically, that would be illegal, since its a pay for service. Mods correct me if I'm wrong.
  7. Yes, talent ! And Renteria has a ton of it.
  8. I agree with what you're saying in principle ( and I love to play what if ), but I also have to balance it with reality. Jr. in his younger days nixed many deals to teams he didn't want to play for. At the same time he said that one of the teams he'd never play for would be the Red Sox. As far as Damon goes, I love to keep him. Unfortunately, if you look at his past, who his agent is, and the fact that he will be the premier free agent next year, I think the Sox will make an effort but will not be held hostage again. He's going to demand a 4 to 4 year contract at 12 -14 million. There is no way the Sox will go with that. Years are too long ( especially given injuries and age ) and money is way to big. So my premise is that they already know that signing Damon is probably not an option. Hence, they now need a good CF. There is crap on the free agent market. So, must be a trade on call up. I don't think we have anything ready in the minors, so trade. The obvious one is trade Manny to the Mets for Cameron and prospects ( next year the Mets lose Piaza salaty of $ 17 Million ).This now solves are CF problem, stocks our minors, and provides financial flexiblity. One move might be to get Huff and play him in left ( I like him becaue he play 1st, 3rd, and corner outfield ). Maybe Konerko and or a top line pitcher.
  9. Aren't we all saying about the end of August, barring any set backs ?
  10. Sorry but I have to disagree. There is no way you're going to get a "super star " ( at least in their mind ) to accept a part time role or demotion, which is exactly what it would be in their mind. Can I mention Payton, Roberts, etc. These guys do not and will not accept that they can't cut it as studs anymore. Why do you think the roids crap go going.
  11. That's what I thought was to save his arm due to innings pitched, but he's back as a starter. I was just wondering on their policy being consistent and what we as fans can expect / anticipate for September and the post season. Thanks
  12. I have a question about Papelbon, that maybe some of you more astute than I can answer. After his first start, which looked quite promising for a rookie ( walks were a little high- nerves ? ). He was sent down. At the time it was reported and discussed here that he was sent to the bullpen per the FO because they wanted him ready as a closer. But now he's being asked to start again. So what is his use going to be ? A starter or a closer ? It's got to be having an effect on him.
  13. Remlinger might be out of options ( probably is ).
  14. Hate to break the news......Curt Schilling is not going anywhere. He is the closer and will be the closer until Foulke proves he can be useful. I think you all are forgetting how awful Foulke was. He was just pitiful. Curt is 9/11 in saves and we dont have any other options. Moving Timlin into the closers role makes no sense whatsoever. He is one of the best at doing what he does. We have no other options, and please don't say "Craig Hansen can do it" because he can't. Trust me, if Curt Schilling can't do it, neither can Hansen. We have to live with what we got.I hope Foulke comes back and it lights out, but until then Schilling is the closer. Please think back and remember how god awful Foulke was this season before deciding he will be a better option than Curt. I agree. Not to mention how there was a public outcry " Don't bring Timlin in with men on base ". Well in many cases that is exactly when he must come in. Leave Timlin where he is. Although, we still have nine games left on this road trip we should do pretty well. We really should have blown out Detroit last night, we had enough opportunities ( in which case we wouldn't have needed to use Schilling ).
  15. Schilling was never billed as an ace closer. It was a temporary move to accomplish two things, get Schilling work to build up his conrol and endurance and buy time to get Foulke back from surgury. What we're seeing is Schilling doing rehab in an unfamilar role. Remember, his problem at the Paw Sox was he felt he didn't have adequate control of all his pitches on a consistent basis. I also want to point out the Sox had ample opportunities to put this game away against an inferior team. So now its, shut down Schilling and make Timlin the closer. I remember a large local group that only recently was saying that Timlin was not a closer and gee don't bring Timlin in with runners on. Well guess what ? That's exactly the situation when you bring in a closer ( not just to get three outs in the nineth ). So stay the course. If you don't think I wasn't extremely pissed about last night's results your are seriously wrong. But I believe in Theo, Tito, Fo, and players to adjuust.
  16. But we almost get along well !
  17. Yea but, other than a comphensation draft pick, we'll get nothing for him, since he's a free agent.
  18. At most only for a couple of weeks till Sep 1st.
  19. I loved the guy when he first came up. But he reminds me a certain former Oakland, Rockies, now Baltimore player with his base running and fielding jugdement problems . Plus, a hate young player's that are damaged goods.
  20. Dogs and cats, NY and Boston getting along ,curtious drivers in MA, peace on Earth, etc.
  21. Agreed, but we're a little jammed at DH now and next year, unless you want to get rid od David. Also he can't play a utility role due to his knees.
  22. I promise to take a drink for you !
  23. Are Cora's stats better than Tony G's against this pitcher ?
  24. Jeez... I hope you don't bring as much pessimism to your personal and professional life. Lighten up and go with the flow a little more. Life's too damn short. Baseball is entertainment, so enjoy it.
  25. It not that I don't trust player quotes, but aah I don't trust player quotes ( Pedro ring a bell ). Matching an offer is no guarentee that a player ( or his agent ) will accept it.
