For the record. Renterria has 12 Win shares this season. Cabrera has 11. http://www.hardballtimes.com/winshares/index.php?search=&linesToDisplay=100&sort=total&sort2=WSAB&limit1=BOS&limit2=Position&leagueLimit=League

Why does Renterria take so much crap? He plays the game the right way, he hustles, he runs, he bunts, he can hit and run and he has great range. His offensive numbers are right around his career averages. You know, it wasnt long ago when Boston fans adored a SS (Nomar) who year in and year out made 25+ errors a season. Would you rather have him around for 14 million a season sitting on the DL? Would you rather have Cabrera who has produced nothing from the dish this season? I mean, christ....the guy even said he would be willing to change his position to make room for Hanley when his time comes. He is an ultimate professional who thinks of team before himself. What will it take for Boston fans to embrace the quiet class act that Renterria is?

I think a good comparison for this 26 to 6 is Roger Clemens going to the Yankees. I still love Roger Clemens. Clemens wanted to stay in Boston, much like Wells wanted to go back to NY, and both teams slammed the door on them. Clemens went to the Yankees, I hated him for that, now hes not a Yankee and I love the guy again. I would kill to watch Roger put on the Sox uniform one day again. Roger has said some things to rip Boston and to be honest I dont blame him. I still love the guy.

Well, With the Moose possibly hurting, someone is gunna have to take a spot. -
Perisho will not be on the playoff roster, and isnt getting lefties out this season, and has gotten killed by righties throughout his career. I have plenty of confidence in the team, with the players that got us to this point anyway. I do not have confidence in Matt Perisho, and if you put trust in soemone like Matt Perisho, the season is over. I have no problem with him pitching in blowouts like I said, but if the game is close, no thanks. He shouldnt pitch in close games anyway, because again.....he is not even elignible for the playoff roster.
-
I though Foulke actually looked pretty good. His fastball location was good and he was hitting 88. He also threw a good slider that a batter took for a ball. His change is still too high in the zone though.

I didnt call him a shitbum. I called Perisho a shitbum. read the conversation

Over the last three seasons righties are hitting .302, lefties .229. So what does this tell us? It tells us that his success against righties this season smells like a fluke, especially when only based on 24 AB's. Lets say the nest four righties get up and they get basehits, then righties are hitting .250. See how small sample sizes mean nothing? Again, you are saying he is having an excellent season based on 14 Innings and 50 BF........
-
Perisho has thrown 14 Innings. Thats one helluva season. If he gives up 2 ER in his next appearance his ERA will be right around his career average. He is also 29, not much upside. 14 Innings is hardly enough to call it a good season. Its obvious at this forum that when you prove someone wrong, and then show them the numbers, they just get offended and insult you instead of learning. Saying somebody is having an excellent season based on 14 Innings is laughable. PS. Making fun of someone at the computer is funny. I can honestly picture you slamming your keyboard with authority because you were so angered I called him a shitbum. You call me a 12 year old, but you are the one insulting me on an internet redsox forum. Go get em' you internet warrior.

Matt Perisho Career Statistics Age:29 IP 276 HA 346 ERA 6.39 BB/K 162/202 OBA .309 OOPS .885 Chad Harville Career Statistics Age:28 IP 119 HA 119 ERA 4.77 BB/K 69/99 OBA .260 OOPS .799 Lefties are also hitting .346 against the Lefty Perisho. Perisho blows. Perisho also owns a 4.25 career minor league ERA. Go to http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/matt_perisho.shtml and check it out. Perisho is definately a shitbum.

The stuff that Perisho and Harville show us is irrevelent anyway because they are not eligible for the playoff roster. I am still scratching my head with the bullpen moves Francona made last night. It seemed he did everything possible to lose that game. I dont understand why he threw all of the shitbums when trailing by 1 run. If its a blowout, sure use those guys to save the bullets of your bullpen aces, but not in a close game please. IMO come seasons end the playoff pitching staff will be Schilling, Wells, Clement, Wakefield.....Timlin Foulke and Papelbon as set up men/closer, Arroyo the long man, Bradford and Myers as the ROOGY and LOOGY and if possible Hansen could help when/if his arm comes around. Hansen will be eligible once he takes Mantei's spot.

Ill take a Trot Nixon shirt please.

Umm...career averages mean nothing since Olerud is 38, and Millar is 33. See, as people get older they tend to not play as well. If you look at Olerud in 2003, and 2004 which is a TWO YEAR SAMPLE you would see that as a starter, Olerud is most likely not capable of putting up numbers which resemeble his career averages. My argument was not "WHO HAS HAD THE BETTER CAREER" so maybe if you would scroll up, and read the WHOLE argument so you wouldnt look so stupid. This has NOTHING to do with comparing their careers. This has everything to do with me explaining that if Olerud WERE the starting first baseman he would be about as productive as Millar is right now. YOU SAID:"To me the important issue is that we got three guys who can play 1st: Olerud, Millar, and Petagine. Stats show us that both Olerud and Petagine are better than Millar, so why Millar gets 90% of the playing time?" No, stats dont show us that. Don't compare Oleruds 117 Ab's to Millars 393. Thats stupid. Instead compare 2003 and 2004 when Olerud was a full time starter. Wait, I already did that obviously you dont know how to scroll up and read, instead you jump in the conversation after I already made my points. Stats show us nothing about Petagine as well. He has 26 AB's. He has proven to be a very good AAA player and a Japanese Allstar. Does that mean Gabe Kapler sucks because he did so poorly in Japan? Does that mean that Hideki Irabu is going to come over and dominate because he was so great over there? No. You cant compare AAA or Japanese professional baseball to MLB. To say his 26 AB's prove he is a better option than Kevin Millar is again stupid. I dont like Kevin Millar, not at all. I just think its funny that people think Olerud would hit .322 with 20 HR and 80 RBI if he were the starting firstbaseman based on 117 AB's. Please read the whole conversation. Most people have a scroll right on their mouse, use it.

Egghead....haha, not quite sweetheart. Its just baseball knowledge from someone who played through college and took classes on baseball statistics for credits to fulfill my math requirements, if you must know. I would like to point out that you could not contribute anything to rebuttle ANY of the points that I made because in fact, what I said is true, and I backed it up with a little thought and research. Instead of calling someone names why not try to prove me wrong like an intelligent coherent person. Some of the intelligence on this site does not come close to competing with some of the other forums out there, in fact they would have eaten you up and banned you by now with all the verbal bashing, one line comments, ridiculous statements you make just to get your post # up to 1500. You contribute nothing, then when you are proven wrong, you insult the person. Ive seen you do it over and over again. Its about time someone calls you out on it. Have a nice day

You are probally the most negetive, ignorant person in the world.. And by the way, Olerud CANT PLAY EVERYDAY. Ask the Yankees last year, also ask the Mariners before they RELEASED the guy. Also, ask the Mariners if he shoulda played everyday during the 2003 season. I am not a fan of Kevin Millar at all, but you forced me to look up the statistics of the last two seasons which Olerud was a starting first baseman, and Kevin Millar this season. Olerud 2004 Avg.259 OB.359 SLG.374 HR9 OPS .733 Olerud 2003 Avg..269 OB..372 SLG.390 HR10 OPS.761 MILLAR 2005 Avg. .275 OB.358 SLG .389 HR 7 OPS.748 How do those compare? Well pretty frigin similar if you ask me. PS. I love how people who have never played competitive baseball think they can compare Millars 393 ABs to Oleruds 117 ABs. And if you knew a whole helluva lot about baseball youd know that a .253 batting average means nothing. Batting average is the most overrated stat in baseball. Rey Sanchez hit .286 for the sox one year, that makes him an allstar. Reggie Jefferson hit .347 one year, wow hes gunna be a hall of famer. Lee Tinsley and Darren Lewis both hit over .280 for a season. These guys are all time legends. Batting average is one of the most irrevelent statistics in baseball. Instead try going to the website in my signature and learn a little sabremetrics like IsoP, and RC and OPS and BsR....you know, stats that create runs and win ball games. I dont like Kevin Millar, but to trash the guy the way you do and claim Olerud is that much better is just not true. Look at the numbers. And don't compare Oleruds 117 AB's to millars 393, that just makes you look stupid. Is Olerud a better player? He is very good sparingly and has done a great job, but if Olerud were the starting first baseman I think his numbers would be worse than Millars, just look at the decline over the last few years Olerud was a starting firstbaseman. WIth a heavy workload one could only expect that his numbers this season as a regular would only continue to decline. Numbers don't lie, neither does age and bad knees.

Would anyone else rather see Lester or another highly touted prospect get the start rather than Dinardo? Personally, I wouldnt be sad if Dinardo never pitched in another game again. Don't we have any other options? Hell, bring Zink up for the start, at least that could be interesting. Well, more interesting than a lefty who throws 78 MPH.

Very well put. Look, I cant stand the way hes played this year, however its obvious Tito will continue playing him. If he is going to help the team win, and he continues to wear the Sox uniform you can at least think wishfully and then criticize later. I appreciate what hes accomplished much like Bellhorn but I wasnt sad to see Bellhorn go. That being said, IF Kevin Millar can get hot I wouldnt mind watching him get his AB's. Like I said before, Id much rather see Olerud play everyday (although he can't) but I would not be opposed to seeing Millar play if he is contributing. Personally, I think Olerud is one of the best hitters on the Sox and very underrated. He is very level headed, has postseason experience, and is unfazed by the hoopla surrounding the Sox. He is definatley a guy I like to see up when the Sox need a hit. Plus Olerud has two Jacks tonight and Millar has gone the other way for a sacrifice and a double.

Ive been trashing this guy all year. Him and his stupid big mouth, his stupid line drive foul balls, his sluggish play in the Outfield and Infield, but maybe.....just maybe he is turning into the Kevin Millar of old. The last couple of nights it seems he has closed his stance a little bit, and instead of cranking inside pitches foul, he is hitting deep flyballs over, against, or just shy of the monster. Even some of his outs look alot better. He is no longer "stepping in the bucket". Now hes striding more or less towards the pitcher and hitting balls with a little more authority. Tonight even tho he had two homeruns I was most impressed with his drive to the right center gap which was caught. Two weeks ago he woulda swung and missed foolishy or fouled it off weekly. I havent been able to stomach watching the guy play all season, but it seems like finally, after months of bad AB's he is making adjustments. It is alot easier to cheer for the guy knowing that finally he is willing to change his approach since all of baseball knew that he wasn't going to touch an outside pitch. I would still rather stick with John Olerud in most circumstances but if Millar is turning it around, and shows that he can slug like he used to, I would have much less of a problem with seeing his name in the lineup. What does everyone else think? Do you think his year end numbers will look a little closer to his career averages? Does he have it in him to stay hot for a month? Will he hit like he once showed us he can or will pitchers once again figure him out like they did this year? Thoughts.... :dunno:

I always felt the chant was tasteless to be honest. It was fun when it started like four years ago, but to hear Yankees suck while playing the Devil Rays in a Spring Training game irritates me. Who frigin cares what the Yankees do. If we win it doesn't matter. Who cares how much they are struggling. We are in first place, enjoy it. Im a diehard RedSox fan, but I have a respect for what the Yankees have accomplished. To be honest, I hate the Yankees like everyone else....but to say they suck......thats tasteless and unintelligent. This shows the class the front office is trying to establish.

YAY FOR MILLARS 5TH HR!!!! WHat a putz....Sit him Tito...please..............mercy
-
Who goes to make room? RemDinger....and what position player? Petagine?
-
I hated him at first. Im not sure about putting him in close games but I have been pleased with how hes picthed lately. Hes quietly become a solid long inning man.
