  1. I would also like to mention, that its only the away uniforms that they are screwing around with (besides that hideous hanging sox alternative cap, puke) and its not like this is the first time they screwed around with roadies, in fact they do it quite often. 1930 1932 1972 1974 1978 1979 1990 1997 2008
  2. I think the road uniforms look great, I think the Hat is awful. Bruins have had many different alternative uniforms, and I think they have all looked great. http://www.nhluniforms.com/2000s/Bruins7.html http://www.nhluniforms.com/1990s/Bruins7.html http://www.nhluniforms.com/1990s/Bruins2.html
  3. The hat is permanent with alternate uniforms, if I am reading it right: "The club will also go with the "Hanging Sox" as the new primary logo, and it will be displayed on new caps that the Red Sox will wear with their alternate jerseys at home and on the road." The jerseys are permanent as well, at least 1 of them is.....of the two shown, 1 is an alternate. "The Red Sox will have a new look to them going forward, particularly on the road. At a news conference on Thursday night in Boston, the tradition-laden franchise unveiled new primary and alternate road jerseys for 2009." http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081211&content_id=3714154&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos

  5. I actually think you hear more about extentions, than trade bait. Lower tier players are trade bait, not prominent superstars......prominent superstars are franchise cornerstones, not bargaining chips.....plus, why would teams want to trade for that player when they know they can just sign him when the contract runs out, rather than trade for him and then have to get in a bidding war if they planned on keeping him in the first place, all while surrending a player in a trade?
  6. Shopped around? We wouldnt get much for him at this point, and Im being serious. First of all, where would he be traded? The whole NL is outta the question. The AL east is pretty much outta the question. CHW have Thome and Konerko. Minnesota is not a buyer for his salary, plus the history. CLE might make sense, if they give up on Pronk...but why would you trade him to another team you almost yearly have to contend with for the playoffs. KC....no DET might make sense, but I think Cabrera is next in line for their DHing duties. LAA is another team that might make sense, but Vlad is creeping up on DH'ing, and they are one of our big rivals....so no. TEX...Salty, Boggs, Hamilton, Murphy, Bradley are already in a battle for playing time, Ortiz would just complicate it more. OAK....no SEA....maybe, they need a lot of help offensively, this maybe makes sense. So, Seattle and Detroit might make sense.....and Texas might make sense if they sort out that mess between their OF's and DH's before adding another one.
  7. Jack Cust is a power hitting slugger, always was.......not a Catcher who floundered in A ball for 3 years. Cust was always on the fringe of being a MLB slugger....reminds me of Russell Branyan, just that Cust put it together faster to stay on a roster. Ludwick has at least bounced around the big leagues before given a shot......not floundered for 6 seasons before hitting .300 in winter ball. Aviles....you may have a point with him, looks like a guy who was never given a shot regardless of putting up great numbers albeit AAA, not rookie league. Guthrie....I think the jury is still out on him, although he put up very good numbers and had a great BB/K ratio. Donnelly wasnt given a shot bc he was a scab....just like Daubach.....he was a scab, and he was blackballed. Campillo has fluke written all over him. The low K numbers, 18 HR in 150 Innings and an even hit to IP ratio will eventually catch up to him. Putz is a legit older career gem. Carlos Pena really doesnt fit....he went from prospect, to bust, to star, to bust.....to star back and forth. Ankiel was a star pitcher before becoming an OF, there really were no expectations for him as an OF, so he doesnt fit either. Still though, thats nine players you came up with off the top of your head.....how many prospect players can you think of who rose to stardum faster? Christ....the Sox roster alone almost provides as many.......are you wrong? no.....its just more unlikely.
  8. Varitek sat out seasons for money.....rather than flounder in rookie ball for 3 years. There really arent many late bloomers past the age hes reaching. How many guys can you really think of 27 and older who made an impact....Daubach comes to mind. Kevin Millar was 27 when he broke out. Chris Coste the backup catcher. Jaime Moyer comes to mind. Casey Blake and Jose Guillen had to wait some years before given full time jobs. Wakefield was 28 when he turned his career around....but not very many man. Maybe a lefty specialist here or there who goes from starter to reliever but it is defintately more common for a prospect rather than a fringe player approaching his 27th birthday.
  9. I always thought Nolan Ryan was overrated (.526 wp, 292 losses, a shitload of walks).....but I never knew he never won a Cy Young, pretty amazing. Even more amazing, he was only in contention (top 10) for the award 8 seasons in a 27 year career. Clemens was in contention 12 times in 24 seasons, and won 7 Cy Youngs. Really remarkable.
  10. Hittin .318 with 1 HR and 7 RBI in the winter leagues really isnt on fire is it? More like luke warm bath water.
  11. For maybe 1 game. Lets put it this way....in a playoff series, if your chances of winning or losing depend on a 4th starter.......you have no chance. Again, I dont want Wakefield to start a playoff game either......but compared to some of the other teams 4th and 5th starters.......there are worse options.
  12. I think one of them leaves this offseason....although I thought that last offseason as well, and that didnt work out to well.
  13. I still dont understand why he couldnt be a number 4 starter as well. Low to mid 4 ERA, 22 starts in which he allows 4 ER or less. I am in agreement, Id rather have someone else start a playoff game.......but #4's and 5's almost never pitch a playoff game anyway.
  14. So then they should call it: Pinkhat: The Manny Ramirez story.
  15. So basically, they will reveal everything that we already know.....in one segment. My view of the segment: Manny wanted an extension.....Sox said no. Manny wants option years picked up...Sox said no. Manny fights Youkilis. Manny beats up old guy. Manny rolls around in LF looking for ball. Manny refuses to pinch hit. Manny refuses hustle to 1B. Manny refuses to board plane. Manny wants trade. Manny gets traded, says he wanted to stay in Boston. Manny gets traded, plays balls to the wall. Manny calls LA Mannywood. Curt Schilling opens mouth. In a nutshell........why would they have a show telling us everything we already know.
  16. It shouldnt be, I completely agree......but the whole Bard/Mirabelli/wasting tax payers money on a police escort/carnival show point us to the direction that maybe it is.
  17. Im glad hes coming back and all, but I really dont want another year of Cash and Varitek....yes, Cash did well but there is a reason he is a .247 hitter in the minors, and a .184 career hitter in the bigs. That being said, Varitek certainly cannot have a worse offensive season...... I love Wakefield, and back in 95 when i was about 15, nobody in Boston Baseball was really a hero to me (other than the Hit Dog, Clemens was on his way out) but the fact that he keeps them hostage with the situation of carrying a s***** catcher really sucks. I guess a bit of a catch 22, we want Wakefield bc of the bargain.....but dont like the baggage he brings.
