    i just heard that a-rod is trying to play for the dominican republic in the world baseball classic. he was born in the USA raised in the USA works in the USA but because the dominican republic has a better line up than the USA(tejada ramirez guerrero to name a few) he wants to jump ship just because his grand parents are dominican? thats bull s***!     statistics dont necessarily make a captain good. leadership is what makes a captain good. your trying to tell me that gary sheffield listens to what deek jeter has to say? alex rodriguez listens when deek jeter speaks? randy johnson looks to deek for advice, right? if they do im willing to bet that it doesnt carry as much weight as when varitek speaks to one of his teammates. as for the oswalt remark...its apples and oranges when you talk about pitchers...talk about who ever the hell is the back up shortstop is in houston...im sure he sucks.

    all i was saying was that from an all star point of view i would rather see a player who is a big part of the success of the best team in baseball rather than the second best shortstop on the yankees. i stated the stats just to justify podsedniks spot on the team and not to say he is better than anyone else. and by the way...my OBP would be over .400 if i had sheffield rodriguez matsui and giambi hitting behind me.

    How this for overall stats. podsednik is a lead off hitter. he leads his team (starters) in average, runs scored, and stolen bases. that is what a lead off hitter should do. and when you throw in that he is doing it for the team with the BEST RECORD in the ENTIRE league i think that is a good enough resume to named to the all-star team over another bitch yankee.

    forget about august look at july. the yankees wont get out of july above .500. the angels OWN the yankees. if the redsox can do some damage to them while they are in boston, texas took 2 out of 3 IN NY and then they have to face MR.     He definitely isnt cocky or stupid. He is only 22 but according to the RedSox they are most impressed with his maturity. I hate the way he wears his hat too but to say he is stupid and cocky and imature just from one look at his picture seems to be a little ignorant. And with the hundred different ways major leaguers wear their uniforms (pants to their knees, pants around their shoes, gold chains sticking out, hair longer than my mothers) who is the "real major league ball player" that you are refering to for him to act like?...anyways leave the kid alone until he stinks up the joint and plays horribly then you can call him stupid and imature.

    I think Alvarez's numbers are impressive. Who has better numbers that impress you more? But bottom line is numbers dont win you ball games. I hate the way he wears his hat too!

    Half way through this season Alvarez is putting up good numbers in AAA. 7=3 record, WHIP is at 1.10 and his K:BB is better than 3:1. He leads the team in innings pitched and K's. Every level this kid pitches at he is successful. He will win games at the major league level someday.

Anyways He is a big reason why I joined this board so maybe I can hear what other people have to say about him.

    His name is Abe Alvarez LHP. He is in AAA Pawtucket right now and is doing well. I will be flying out to Boston to see a game if he ever makes it.
