As long as there's no contact, what's wrong with it? I don't see why he should have to be looking at the ball as long as he is in position. And, the receiver's job is to catch the ball so he has to play the ball. The defensive back's job is to prevent the receiver from catching it, so he's playing the receiver. There's really no logical argument for penalizing a guy for being in position within the rules.

Actually, the Raider's game was the right call by the letter of the rule, and according to this piece, the non-call wasn't. No doot aboot it. I'm actually very surprised the impact of the disparity of the calls isn't getting any press. I know, I know, the Pats had ample other opportunities to win the game, blah, blah, blah. Fact is, the officiating on those two calls/non-calls played a huge role in the outcome. If the roles were reversed, and the Pats were on the beneficial end, I think we'd be hearing about this until deep into the summer due to the fact that much of the media is looking for fodder against the Pats.

The balanced 49er team was 5th in points scored and 2nd in points allowed that season. They played that Bear team in SF that year and got spanked 26-10, with Montana. I don't think that Bear team is overrated. Sure, their offense left something to be desired, but it was one of the all-time best defenses ever.

Pretty much every defensive metric does a poor job of accounting for Fenway's LF impact. I'm not saying that Manny should a get a free pass, but he certainly had more range than Bonds, who could hardly run some of the time, last year.

I think ARod2212 said that tongue in cheek due to the ribbing his baseball team gets for '04. I don't think he was serious, but I do think he wanted to get under your skin a little. Those of you that responded gave him exactly what he wanted.

Right call, but I hate that rule. Hobbs didn't touch him and deflected the ball, yet it is PI. Let the defense play, their job is hard enough.

Untouched. Jacko, here's why NE can run all over them and the others couldn't, they didn't have to respect the pass with the other teams they faced. NE looks like they are going to move the ball with ease all game.
