  1. Jeebus is Ellsbury fast. I've read the scouting reports, but this is the first time I've seen him.
  2. Murphy looks bigger this year.
  3. The mlb.tv stream went down when Piniero had a runner on 2nd and 2-out, what happened, and who made the error?
  4. Perfect inning for Curt. That means he's going to win the Cy this year. [/jacksonian]
  5. My vote is to take K/BB out since WHIP already penalizes for walks, and K/9 gives non-closer RPs some value. Thanks for handling the dues, SFoC.
  6. The thing about the big guys in the HR derby is they aren't just trying to poke one out, they are going for the oooh/aahhh moonshots. I remember hearing something similar about Boggs, and it makes perfect sense. Those guys have such good hand-eye coordination that they can square up the ball every time, so I'd be weary of betting against them.
  7. To be fair, I heard the thing did a complete lap around the bowl and required no wiping. I give myself curtain calls when I pass one of those.
  8. HAHAH. What a crock! The wrists? f***ing rich. Nobody is hitting the ball beyond the deep IF without getting their core involved. Look at a hitter take a swing. They gear up by coiling their back toward the pitcher before release and generate bat speed by uncoiling with a finish that leaves the shoulders open. It's all torsion on the abdomen. You make up more s*** than anyone I've ever seen on the internet.
  9. I'm not sure I'd bring up the '05 class as a comp. The top-3 WR from that draft aren't as good as the big-3 in this class, and from there it only gets worse.
  10. It isn't necessary that he be speedy. That said, this thread is about the best baseball player. That means every tool of a baseball player should be in the discussion. If we were just talking about the best 1B, then it's Pujols and we move on. But, due to his relative lack of speed, he can't play certain positions, and guys that can hit near his level while playing those positions earn consideration in the discussion. This isn't even a debate if it's just 1B or just at the plate. However, there is more to the game.
  11. Are you kidding me? Calvin Johnson, Dwayne Jarrett, Ted Ginn Jr., Sidney Rice, Robert Meachem, and Dwayne Bowe are all very good prospective WRs that will probably have immediate impact. Hell, some guys that will probably end up being second day picks have a good chance to provide immediate production, IMO. I think Paul Williams, Courtney Taylor, Dallas Baker, and Steve Smith are going to be impact players in the future.
  12. As a 'Skins fan I hope they have the smarts to take advantage of the deep WR class in this draft. They could really use a possession type WR, like Dwayne Jarret (Johnson will be gone by the 6th pick), to complement Santana Moss.
  13. Hampton's best pitch was the big curve. It's true, curve balls don't hook as well in drier, lighter air. I think the best reportoire for Colorado is 4-seam, 2-seam/sink, change.
  14. What excuse did I make? I just pointed out that you can't know what you claim to know. First, not even the doctors that looked at him can determine how long the condition existed. Second, you aren't a doctor, no matter how much you try and play one on the internet.
  15. How do you know? He was pitching as good then as he was last year, and when they opened his shoulder up last year they discovered serious damage. Quit asserting things you can't possibly know.
  16. Absolutely untrue. The sink of a sinker is not due to tumbling overspin, like a curve, it's due to less backspin than a 4-seamer, which means greater gravitational impact. Jennings is sinkerball pitcher, and he's been good in Colorado. I've always thought they need to focus on getting more GB pitchers because flyballs are the death of pitchers there.
  17. Well, IP minimums is the way to go, but not at the risk of eliminating pitcher spots. I think it is certainly more egregious if a player gets no credit because there weren't enough slots to cover any missed starts or injury situations when they already had another star on the DL (only one DL slot) and don't want to dump a good pitcher. Anyone who goes the route of the RP is rolling the dice, if you ask me. They'll lock up the SV category, but give up the W one. Their ERA will be good some of the time, but it will be s*** when they have a bad outing because of fewer IPs to carry the load. There will always be different strategies with different risks associated with them, and fantasy sports will always require a different set of values than the actual sport. Bottom line, if you think there's a loop-hole that gives you an advantage by taking all closers, then go for it. Might work. Might blow up in your face.
  18. Get over yourself. This has nothing to do with you or ARod vs. Pujols. You favor Pujols bat over the more complete player. Good for you, want a cookie? Not statistically better, huh? Career Stats at SS Player F% RF ZR Wilson .976 4.89 .851 Peralta .973 4.70 .834 Tejada .971 4.75 .833 Jeter .975 4.20 .821 Whoops. You are easy prey. How 'bout you make it a little more challenging next time, sport? This has nothing to do with any dislike of Jeter. I'd take him on this team in a heartbeat because, overall, he's an excellent SS, second best overall SS in the game, IMO. This is about the truth. Jeter's value is on offense. Nothing more, nothing less.
  19. At this point I don't care anymore. I don't think you'll be happy until you have it exactly the way you want it, since all you've done in this thread is complain about how it's set-up since the thread started. No more grease from me, Mr. Squeaky-Wheel.
  20. Will you stay on topic? We were talking about defense, but it's hard to reason with you when you throw stuff like what is in bold in the conversation. All of them have much better range than Jeter. Jeter is a more steady fielder - read: less errors - but there's more to defense than that. Jeter's best three years for RF, ZR, and F% just so happen to coincide with the introduction of a former GG SS being moved to 3B right next to him. When that happened, his numbers bumped up right around average, give or take a little. Prior to that, he was well below average almost every year. I think the problem is that you are talking "highlight", while I'm talking overall ability. Jeter looks spectacular so often because his feet don't get him there fast enough to make it look routine like it does for the rest of the guys mentioned. I don't care what your perception of him or of them are, if you can't show me with a number, it's probably a false assumption.
