  1. I don't think the physical aspects of this acceleration are what deteriorate over time. I'd be willing to bet that the actual measureable acceleration of the bat through the hitting zone, at full effort, is not what makes older hitters fade in their performance at the plate. I do agree that reaction is closely tied to what the scouts call "bat speed", and I think the component of reaction that deteriorates is pitch recognition. When they start to say that an older hitter "can't get around" on an inside FB, it's because they aren't pulling the trigger on the swing quickly enough.
  2. Philly has mastered the IF hit apparently. I think they had like 7 last night, and are on pace to do it again today.
  3. Pedroia did it in Colorado in 2010. I don't have subscription acces at BB-ref, but you can search for this type of specific info there. When I searched, it only showed one result, with subscription access required for the whole list. The one result was Bobby Doerr.
  4. The little green alien with the massive green helmet from the Flintstones. The similarity to Polanco is, of course, the massive helmet.
  5. Now batting, pinch hitter, the Great Gazoo.
  6. Don't forget the brown hair.
  7. What teenager are we talking about? I'm trying to be civil about this but you are bringing up the most ridiculous strawman ever. Can we stop talking about teenagers.....or guys who got an injection....this is about someone who suffered a traumatic injury. EDIT: Did you bother to read the info in the link? Hypovolemic shock can be caused by fractures of large bones. Thanks for sharing something that shows how "wrong" I am.
  8. Or? That means blood loss is not necessary, doesn't it? And, collapse of circulatory function....as in, instantaneous drop in blood pressure....hence the fainting. Sounds like shock, albeit very temporary to me.
  9. Why did he faint and have that blank stare, then?
  10. The Red Sox are undefeated when they give up zero runs. True story.
  11. It was a traumatic injury, sudden and severe. I think shock is likely given the immediate swelling.
  12. Bet that arm is broken and he's in shock.
  13. No, it's not Platoon, he was in Red Dawn, the most epic of all Cold War movies. Wolverines!
  14. Not that I'm an Obama fan, but Luke Scott is a "birther".
  15. Just found out a company client is hooking us up with free tickets for tomorrow's game when we are in Tampa. Free baseball! Go Buch, try not to suck.
  16. By "quietly", you must mean a mouse farting in the wind. Yeah, I'd call that his rate of "quiet" improvement.
  17. That's just stupid. I understand giving Youk an opportunity to come back and be a middle of the order bat, but they could get creative and put the kid in LF. More playing time for lesser players. Boo.
  18. Ace is not a distributor, Ace is a broker, the official agency for Sox tickets in the secondary, resale, market. I'm sure they buy some directly from the team, but a large majority of their tickets are procured from ticket holders who cannot attend all the games. Every ticket that goes through Ace is bought and paid for from the Sox. That's not a rationalization, that's the facts.
  19. I'm flying in to Tampa on Thurs for some company training on Fri, so me, my brother, who goes to USF, and two co-workers are going to the game on 5/17. One of my co-workers is a Sox fan from Monterrey, Mexico like iortiz.
  20. He's a vegetarian, which apparently means he eats pasta by the 5-gallon bucket.
