  1. That's funny, sentences that start with God, and that is followed by a complaint, well, most people would call that whining. Well done.
  2. No, I know they have a good lineup, and my initial question wasn't serious. Just rubbing it in that their "future ace" just s*** all over himself to America's hat.
  3. Is that compared to an "Old Flash"? On any given day, on any type of calendar, Canada sucks. The obvious continues to evade you.
  4. No s***, but still, it is Canada.
  5. Is something amiss in Joba-land? He just gave up 5 runs without recording an out.........to Canada.
  6. "...could be sidelined until May." This, somehow, translates into "out until at least May." Interesting, to me the "could be" reads as the worst case scenario, whereas "at least" suggests the best case scenario. But, that's just me. Either way, the ARod shizz-show this year should be fun.
  7. I have no disagreement that there is healthy debate within the threads at SP. That said, in my opinion, every players' write-up on their prospect page tends to lean toward the sunny side, particulary with pitchers and their stuff.
  8. I recall your analysis of Lester's potential being a bit more critical. You didn't say he was a couple of years away. You were critical not only of his command, but said he lacked the stuff to be a big league pitcher. You basically predicted him to be a bust. Don't qualify your misses with "the limited amount of time" you get to see them when that was my point to begin with. You put too much stock into that limited amount of time. It's essentially worthless in terms of making credible evaluations. Your track record, no matter how much you defend it, shows this.
  9. I wouldn't say his ability to judge talent is deficient, but he puts a lot more into a small spring sample of performance based solely on the fact that it occurred before his eyes than he probably ought to.
  10. And Pedroia and Lester were destined for mediocrity and the bench, per your ST reports. Lars is now destined for stardom.
  11. The WBC is intended to be like the World Cup of baseball. A huge every 4 year event that garners global attention to the game. If played in September, every time it's played some of the games biggest stars will be out because of the concurrent scheduling conflict and the pennant races. Particularly when the current system typically has high payroll teams (ie the biggest names in the sport) in the hunt every Sept. This idea is so full of fail that I can't believe you threw it out there.
  12. September? You like to say stupid s*** just for the reactions, don't you?
  13. That will never happen.
  14. Jacko didn't get the memo that we are living in the age of information. The power of the internet to disseminate information to those who actively seek it out is supreme. You can find anything....if you look. For instance, I became curious about the validity of Jacko's velocity reporting for John Smoltz last year, because the point about him being a power pitcher is valid. What isn't, is Jacko's memory. If you look at these links, you'll see the pitch f/x data as compiled by BrooksBaseball.net for each Smoltz start last year. April 6, 2008 April 12, 2008 April 17, 2008 April 22, 2008 April 27, 2008 June 2, 2008 He was, and this is the range pulled from Jacko's rear, "90-92" with his FB average in 2 of his 6 starts (with the last one in April, before he went on the DL, being 89.29, so actually just below which is why I counted it). He was 93+ in 3 of his 6 starts. This is an important distinction because Jacko's whole point is based on an understated fabrication of his own making.
  15. SFoC, let me know if you don't receive my dues in the next couple of days. I put the envelope in the mail last Thursday night, so it probably didn't hit the Post Office until Friday, but it should get there soon. EDIT: Nevermind, just saw your PM that you got them.
  16. Good point........ if only Jon Lieber wasn't consistently average and incapable of producing anything in a bottle.
  17. As far as the thread topic goes, if he's healthy, Smoltz could very well be the best pitcher in the AL come September. Sure, Gammons is a homer, and yeah, this was put out there for sake of being controversial (IMO), but it's not like he picked some scrub with no track record or talent. What's funny is the stones being thrown in a glass house here. I mean, Jacko is getting on someone for a ridiculous prediction. Is this any more ridiculous than when the Yankees would walk away with the division in '07? How about when RJ, Pavano, and Wright were going to win 75 games combined? Take a look in the mirror, or at least review your post history, before you call anyone's prediction "FOS".
  18. The major difference Gom is missing here is what these guys were signed for. The vets we signed were passed over by a lot of other teams, they were signed at a value, and that value is tied to the fact that there is injury concern for each player. In short, they were signed with the hope of catching lightning in a bottle. If the lightning fails to strike, there is no great reliance on their performance for the season to still be a success. It will help, but it's not contingent upon it. I can find no similar signing in recent history for the Yankees.
  19. I don't see the harm in giving Bard another look. If he can't cut it, then he doesn't make the team. It's certainly a more relevant look than the Oil Can Boyd idea some were kicking around here. And, I agree, Wake got blooped and bleedered to death in the 2nd, but whether it is that or getting bombed, I still don't like watching him pitch (and this is coming from someone who recognizes the value he has added to the team over the last decade).
  20. Another season of Tim Wakefield is looking like it will be a hoot.
  21. Wah, somebody wants to take away our cash binky. Let's attack his character. Henry made the similar statements as the owner of the Marlins. He's been consistent on the issue, no matter which side of the coin his ownership interest is found. And, it is possible to recognize a flaw in the system, state it is flawed, while still taking advantage of that flaw because you'd be stupid not too. That's called honesty, which I certainly prefer to the nonsense you get from the Steinbrenners about how revenue sharing has leveled the field. You'd see this if you could get beyond the knee jerk reaction to defend the system plays favor to your team above all others.
  22. Again, I don't care how his stuff relates to the massively overrated IPK. I don't care how he got to his inning total because no hitter saw him enough for familiarity. I'm not saying he's not going to be any good, because I haven't seen him pitch, but his stats need to be taken with a truckload of salt at this point.
  23. What has me skeptical is the 95 innings over 3 different leagues. I'll become more of a believer when he can achieve the same success over a workload in AAA where he'll be seen multiple times by hitters. You've seen a lot of this with recent Yankee pitching prospects, particulary IPK. Where guys who didn't get big touting from scouts are rushed up, which utilizes the advantage a pitcher has in first time matchups. And then you have the whole issue of whether or not when a reliever dominates the IL if it means anything. Mmm'bop (Hansen) was stellar in AAA last year.
  24. Absolutely. At the time, Alex Cora could still play a proficient SS, something Loretta (a statue at 2B in your own words) and Graffanino were not capable of. And if I'm to wait, well I still am, because what you posted in no way reconciles your fabricated reason with the timeline.
  25. And you read about this somewhere? Or did you make it up? Let's check the timeline... Nov 24, 2005 - Trade Hanley for Beckett - Link Dec 7, 2005 - Trade Belli for Loretta - Link Jan 11, 2006 - Graffanino signs with Sox after accepting arb - Link Graffanino had to accept arb because he was a type A free-agent, and nobody wanted to give up draft picks to sign him. The Beckett trade did not force them to pick up Loretta. At the time, Loretta looked like an upgrade and Graffanino became expendable. Please just stick to the facts.
