  1. Think Berman wanted them to cut to something else? Haha, he looked pissed.
  2. Lavarnway is just mugging the ball to start the year. HR #4 and a BB so far tonight.
  3. Yeah, let's send this guy back to AAA.
  4. Not what I'm saying. Mino is saying the Beltre/Cameron predictions were wrong, thus the struggle in April. I'm saying making such a judgement in April is unlikely to give an accurate result just like the x-ray the day of the injury.
  5. april:september::x-ray same day:x-ray a week later Mm'kay?
  6. This was the first thing that came to mind for me when Jacko started off on his "fluke" win tangent yesterday, but I didn't feel like entering the discussion. Now that you have, I'd like to add some input. This is where any defense of Jacko's motives fall apart. There are games teams should win, but lose, like the first two against TB. There are games teams should lose, but win, like the first two against Texas. Over the course of a season, these things tend to balance out. Of course, from Jacko, we'll only hear about the latter.
  7. Josh Beckett = Overrated....discuss
  8. Oh, f***, you went and said the magic words. VICTORY!
  9. This was well established long ago. Why he was allowed back remains a mystery. I can understand allowing someone back who contributed to meaningful discussion, but that never was the case with him. Taunting and mocking - the usual menu options from the Yankee fans allowed here. I don't understand why it gets allowed.
  10. Darnell McDonald refuses to make outs.
  11. Who cares? You were taunting and it blew up in your face. Eat it.
  12. I swear, you can't make this stuff up.
  13. Maybe Darnell can turn into the wood swinging version of Aaron Small. That would help.
  14. I didn't ignore your math. The math was simple arithmetic, kudos for surprising me with your ability to handle that. The math is based on bogus numbers. Bogus data, bogus result, bogus conclusion. First time I've posted the article, and you didn't read it. Clearly this isn't about getting to the right answer for you, because you won't consider the analysis. Oh, and you don't know what a strawman is....still.
  15. I can read. I can also remember. This discussion is a recurrence of the debate we had last year about Posada, and I never responded to your attention whoring prediction thread. When you said, "[like] Posada", I took the comparison to mean similar to, and resumed the debate. If you meant something different, you should have stated it differently. Posada doesn't cost anywhere near .5 runs a game. If he did, it would show up over a career. Here, learn something... link Oh, wait, let me guess, this makes me a sheep, right? No, really, I mean it's OK for you to post the inanities from a high schooler as supporting reference, but this makes me a sheep, correct? Bah-ah-ah, you twit.
  16. You said he'd be like Posada. He's not, he's worse. The argument I've had with you on this subject was about someone with Posada's abilities. Stop trying to change the parameters of the debate. It's dishonest.
  17. Gom's post was 100% predictable, and equally stupid. Let's rewind: The argument you made against Posada was primarily about "framing" pitches and CERA, which is what, at least for me, we disagreed with. Your gripe was never primarily about controlling the running game, and for good reason, because Posada never allowed baserunners to succeed at this rate. I agree that controlling the running game is important, because you can put a tangible run value on a stolen base through linear weights. At the rate Martinez is allowing runners to advance, it would be very difficult for him to offset that with offensive contribution.
  18. Injury Delay?
  19. Pay attention people. Bill Hall is in for Martinez at cleanup. EDIT: Make that #5. Nice, McDonald.
  20. I question this decision. Martinez is having a good game at the plate, and I suspect his bat would be an attractive option when his spot is likely to come up again (likely the 9th inning).
  21. Poor character? Gom, you are here for the primary purpose of taunting people who root for the rival of your team. Your entire existance on this forum is based on poor character. Don't go there. I treat you like s*** because you deserve it. I'm nice to those that aren't pricks. If you don't like me being callous with you, stop being a prick. Gom, I don't read your analytical points anymore. I don't. They aren't worth my time. I see where you are headed, to see if you have the right take going in before you try and make your points, and determine if it's worth a read. You regularly fail the first part. Sorry, but you do. Deal with it. Read the advice I've given you. It's not some s*** I made up. You'll find it in any statistics class course material. Oh, wait, let me guess, I'm a sheep for repeating what I learned in school, right? You know what's funny? I did go back and read your post, and, I find this hilarious by the way, my first response to your post was right on. You spend entirely too much time focussing on evaluating stats against your opinion. You don't see enough baseball, not of the players on the other teams, to have an accurate opinion on how good a player is over an entire season. You know 1/30th of the league, and you only know them from being at the game about 1/4 of the time. You are trying to condense the entire league on 1/120th of the play and are assigning supreme value on your untrained (dude, you aren't a scout) opinion of that 1/120th. That is a disgusting level of hubris. You really need to get over yourself.
  22. Yeah, the class dig. That will go far coming from someone who by and large is here to troll. That credibility thing, you really do struggle with that. Gom, the hypothesis determines what you are trying to measure, what to sample. After the sample is taken, you need statistical analysis to tell you if it's meaningful. Statistical analysis is objective. It considers all. It doesn't find a few confirming examples and stop with a positive conclusion, which is what you are doing, which is why I call your ******** self-serving. I don't care enough about this stuff to do those kind of studies, but at least I understand what needs to happen, and I trust that those with the passion for it will give it the due diligence it deserves. Get off your f***ing high horse, you twit.
  23. Gom, I stopped when you got the part about what you feel. Feelings are ******** in analysis. You only like stats that jibe with your preconceived assumptions. The key is to drop assumption and let the data speak. You are incapable of doing that, because you are only interested in validating the ******** you think you see from the RF bleachers. You have an agenda, and it's self-serving. When your agenda becomes, "I want to know how meaningful this measurement is", then you'll have the correct mentality to approach stasticial analysis.
  24. Reality check: One player on this team is hitting, Dustin Pedroia. Ortiz, who will never be the '04-'07 Ortiz again, will not hit .150 for the year. Ditto Drew, and Martinez at .210, and Youk at .220. This will get better The big 3 have produced 3 good starts after 3 turns through the rotation. This is with Buchholz being a little shaky but showing some good signs, ie, not lighting the world on fire, and Wake being exactly as advertised. This will get better. The defense has been weak to start the year. Either all these new pickups will continue to play at a level that far exceeds the worst performance they've ever put forth over a full season, or as the number of games increases they play to their normal level. Not saying the former couldn't happen, but I wouldn't put money on it. On the other side of the coin, the bullpen looks like it will be a weakness, which will make prolonged winning streaks difficult when these other areas right themselves. This means things need to get right sooner rather than later because it will be difficult to make up ground with a weak bullpen.
