  1. 5-6 inches is not a ton, and Papelbon is still getting decent lateral movement at 4-5 inches, but the explosive backspin is still there. Most pitches coming in at 93-94 will have a positive vertical movement (relative to the gravity effect on a ball with no spin) of +13" give or take 1", but he was still busting it in with +16-17" on Pitch f/x. That will mess with what a hitter is expecting the ball to do.
  2. Yeah, Rivera never strikes anyone until he starts changing speeds. This isn't to say he's anywhere near Rivera's ability right now, because he isn't locating, but you should know the answer to this.
  3. Matt Wieters comes up as the tying run. Lovely.
  4. This is overly simplistic. The argument has never been the value of a HR vs the value of a BB. Your entire gripe against Drew has been that you don't care that he gets on base because he doesn't drive in runs. The problem with that, which is the root error of this over simplification, is that you are assuming that another positive result will be had if he swings away rather than taking pitches when the pitcher is being fine.
  5. Pedroia
  6. The Mike Lowell Special.
  7. Don't know. Now that Pedroia stopped hitting, they are collectively playing like s***. It's strange.
  8. Oscar Tejeda's been on fire a bit lately too. Two HR today, for four on the season, which brings his line up to .386/.390/.667. Don't love that IsoD of .004, but that's some pop from a 20 y/o MIF.
  9. That lid on Cervelli makes him look like Gazoo.
  10. For as long as Ellsbury and Cameron are hurt?
  11. Haha, that's the best you've got? A stupid semantical point that falls on its face. "On the 1B side of the plate" could mean the black, or it could mean the area on the 1B side of the plate, which goes all the way back to the dugout. What incredible weaksauce, Gom. You're flailing in the water, grasping at straws. Quit while you can.
  12. It's OK. Wood let him off the hook by letting the playable grounder go under his glove.
  13. Where is Wilson - LH batter's box Where is Teix - butt over the plate Where is the collision - on the 1B side of the plate From your picture. You really suck at this.
  14. It wasn't over the plate. Wilson is still in the LH batter's box and Teixeira is over the plate when they meet. Read that again, Teixeira is over the plate, meaning he ran beyond the point he needed to start his slide. He opted for collision when it was unnecessary. Intent doesn't need to be malicious for this to be a dirty play, nor does it make him a dirty player. Like a700 said, it is what it is. He certainly has the right to opt for a collision there. That right doesn't absolve him from his bad decision. As for the nonsense about thinking for myself. My opinion on this is based on the video. I have referrenced no outside opinion, as you have with the MLB crew. You suck at this.
  15. I disagree on the attempting, a700, he was definitely coming toward the plate to block it, but the collision occurred on the other side of the plate from 3rd base, which means his manuever to block in no way obstructed Teixeira's path to the plate. A foot slide gets in there 100 times out of 100.
  16. Attempting, yes. Blocking, no. Teixeira had a free path.
  17. This, a lot of this.
  18. What are you talking about? He could have easily slid in feet first. And, the catcher didn't get hurt because his feet weren't underneath him, he got hurt because Teixeira went in shoulder first. If he goes in feet first, the catcher gets toppled and that's it.
  19. Wow, totally uncalled for. Dick move.
  20. Again, I didn't see the play, but could Teixeira have avoided contact and touched the plate? From what 700 says, it sounds like he could have, and if he could, I think I'd have a hard time calling the play clean. As for the HBP, why hit a guy in slump to face a superior hitter, who is hot, with a runner on? Intent seems unlikely.
