  1. like i said i'll happily eat my own words if they come back from a 6 run deficit, theyve come back from 5 run deficit 2 times this season
  2. hey if im wrong and the sox are able to overcome a 6-run deficit, i'll eat my own words and no one will be happier than me
  3. well im out for the night, offense just had an anemic 4th inning on 8 pitches and also have gotten 5 men on base, leaving them all on--dont even get me started on bronson, im out for the night, down by 6 and with our bullpen against the blue jays staff, edge goes to toronto--we cant be "oh well" about this, because come tomorrow night we very well could be looking up at the yanks

  7. O's go for two against Yankees New York (92-65) at Baltimore (71-86), 7:05 p.m. ET After two months of dormancy, the Orioles' offense finally woke up from their hibernation and took out its frustration on the Yankees pitching staff. Baltimore scored a season-high 17 runs in a 17-9 win over the Bombers, ensuring the American League East will be tied for at least one more day. Jay Gibbons drove in four runs and added his 100th career home run. Now the Orioles will try to earn at least a split of the series with a win Wednesday. Daniel Cabrera will make his final start of the season, ending an inconsistent -- and sometimes frustrating -- campaign. He struggled at the beginning of the season, only showing flashes of his immense potential, such as May 9 when he blanked the Twins for eight innings with 11 strikeouts. And there was the ugly, such as eight runs in 3 2/3 innings on Aug. 6 at Texas. But after 25 days on the disabled list, he seems to have gathered himself, going 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA since returning. Yankees right-hander Shawn Chacon has been a valuable pickup from the Rockies, and he has emerged as a dependable starter after wasting away as a reliever in Colorado. In consecutive starts against Toronto, Chacon did not allow a run in 16 innings. Chacon is 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA in four September outings and could be the team's Game 1 starter in the playoffs. The Orioles' offense has produced just 13 home runs in September, one more than Toronto for the fewest in the Major Leagues. Sunday was the first multihomer game for the O's since Sept. 1. If the Orioles finish the season without a 30-homer player, it was be the third time in the past six years that has occurred. Miguel Tejada leads the team with 26. Pitching matchup BAL: RHP Daniel Cabrera • 10-12, 4.58 ERA in 2005 • 1-0, 4.63 ERA vs. NYY in 2005 NYY: RHP Shawn Chacon • 6-3, 2.89 ERA in 2005 • 0-1, 22.50 ERA vs. BAL in 2004 Quick hits The 4 hour, 16 minute game was six minutes short of the American League record for a nine-inning game set by the Orioles and Yankees on Sept. 5, 1997. ... Javy Lopez's solo home run off Scott Proctor in the fifth inning on Monday was his 250th career home run and 13th of the season. ... Melvin Mora laced his 30th double of the season in the second inning Monday, the third time in his career he has reached that mark. ... Nine of the past 12 Orioles home runs have been hit by Gibbons or Mora. ... Mike Mussina's 1 2/3-inning outing was his shortest outing since July 13, 1995, while with the Orioles.
  8. you're not a true fan if you are now talking like a yankee fan about him--the fact that he pitched on injured ankle while it was bleeding to lead the Sox to their first world series win since the early 1900s made him one of the most loved sports icons in new england, yeah but you are now telling him where to put the "bloody sock", yeah thats classy
  9. ugh very ugh thats right Kevin Faulk is out for 6-8 weeks for an undisclosed leg injury he had during the Steelers game as well, reported by WEEI:
  10. entering the top of the 7th inning, it wasnt tied at that time. Thru the first 6 innings he gave up 7 hits, 4 Runs. The 7th against batters who have had succes against him, 3 consecutive hits which lead to the tying run. Its funny how you guys are acting like every start of his has been a bomb, how about against the d-rays going 7 innings giving up 2 runs or 5 hits. or against the yankees, 8 strong innings giviving up 2 runs on 5 hits. Ever think the rainout got him out of his funk a little for the game the next night after? pitchers are weird like that
  11. His strikeouts counts have been getting back up to his 2004 type numbers, its just (1) his command is sketchy, on the road its been good, at fenway its been bad--(2) we couldve been talking about a win if he had not been brought in at the 7th inning already at the 100 pitch count and facing batters who have had great success in the past against him why werent Delcarmen and Dinardo used who are really good strikeout pitchers??
  12. my picks so far 1. Wakefield, no one can say otherwise he is the Ace of the staff 2. Wells 3. tossup between Clement and Schilling if Bronson does another good qaulity start, i'll be even more confused how the rotation will be
  13. 14. you never know, i was guaranteed myself that the orioes would be a 4 game sweep especially with Mussina on the mound I thought he'd like pitch a gem
  15. tonight is Bronson, the only other reliable starter for the month of September who has gone 4-0 with a 3.60 ERA. He has also done very well agaisnt the Blue Jays. Just got to buckle down and get these last 2 games, 3 out of 4 still would be awesome feeling. I got good feeling, Sam Perlozzo and Orioles' players were saying in interviews last night that they had realized what great confidence that win gave them, and they hope to continue that their last 5 games of the season and set themselves up for 2006. great way to look at it, go Orioles
  16. a big plus is that at least we were not beat as bad the yankees were. their bullpen gave up 12 runs, final score 17-9
  17. you guys lucked out so bad tonight, still be tied for 1st place
  18. and ahem thats a 3-run homerun by mora, 17-9 lead
  19. baseball gods loves playing with us. Guardians, sox, and yankees (possibly) all lose games on the same day
  20. offense only had two great innings but that was it, they sucked against the bullpen yeaaaa well with 5 games left we cant really be in an "eh oh well" attitude, its not early september anymore. you do realize this win couldve put the sox ahead of the yankees by a game if yanks lose? which means theres still a chance yanks could rally and we'd be back in 2nd place
  21. thats the f***ing game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. 2 outs, if sox lose they will really have lost such a golden opportunity to take over sole possession
  23. damon was laughing when he got the 2nd strike, how can i feel confident when i see that? 2nd strike made on a bad bunt attempt
  24. if it is indeed a loss, i put all blame really on tito for not taking schilling out soon enough--i mean he was hit hard the first 6 innings and just got by barely on several occasions, and was at 100 pitches when he entered the 7th inning facing the top order for the blue jays who have +.400 batting avg's against curt
