  1. Cliff Lee pitched 10 IP of shutout ball tonite. 102 pitches. Jesus. Hopefully Lester is taking notes.
  2. The positive spin is that a week ago if I could have said the Sox could go 3-3 in 6 games with TB and TEX most of us would gladly take it. The season is young and there is still considerable hope.
  3. Pedroia is a one time rookie of the year (Valentine doesn't have one of those) and a former MVP (Valentine doesnt have one of those) with a WS ring (Valentine doesn't have one of those). He's played in for 5 or 6 years and knows the territory. Valentine doesn't seem to. I'm not saying he has the right to say whatever he wants (he doesn't) but he's the consumate team player, a player that every other team and every other manager would want to have. If he doesn't think its a good idea to unnecessairly start s*** about the "passion" of a guy like Youkilis, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
  4. I hope Bowden and Expo have good careers and wouldn't mind if both ended up back with Boston. They were released because the Sox needed 40 man space, not necessairly because they suck.
  5. If 6 weeks is all then the Sox might be lucky. It looked like a pretty serious injury.
  6. Give me some Pedra Ciriaco, Jason Repko, or even JC Linares.
  7. I would say that means that all three of this teams supposed starting OFs are out with injuries then. Crawford, Ellsbury and Kalish should have been this teams starting OF LAST YEAR, now all of them are out. Sure seems fortunate/well-planned to have Ross and Sweeney as backup outfielders.
  8. It was one of those Maddon shifts where he had the RF playing SS. Nah, it wasn't.
  9. I think it was Zobrist. Pretty accidental play. Ellsbury slid hard, knocked the guy over and the guy landed his bodyweight on Ells shoulder. It sucks. EDIT: Brignac, that's right.
  10. Shoulder. Not elbow.
  11. Let's hope it was dislocated or something. Isn't that something that can heal more quickly?
  12. He also has no problem sending grade C prospects in return.
  13. Good post Doj. You are right. Entitlement + short sightedness makes the game much less enjoyable. I find myself falling into letting the teams success on a daily basis actually impact my mood, especially at the beginning of the year. It makes watching and understanding the games much more difficult. It's not a game that lends itself to hypervigalence.
  14. When I can quote both of you in the same post and say I completely agree, everyone should take note. This is hard because: a) Regardless of optimist vs. pessimist, we all want them to win when a team has so few wins it is really hard to wait for the next game. We want redemption immediately c) other teams get off to hot starts and we say "why can't the Sox do that?" d) we all know this team is much, much better than they showed in 2011 and so far in 2012. The season will get better.
  15. I'm the glass-half-full guy. Always. I'm also reasonable enough to know that seasons are long and this one has barely started. That said, what the f*** is with this team's s***** starts the past few years? Francona was blamed for a lazy spring training. Valentine comes in with the crackin' whip and they start off nearly as shittily. I really hoped the Sox wouldn't have to go through this s*** again this year. It's a frustrating way to start a season. Even playing .500 ball doesn't conjure images of 2011 all over again. Sheesh.
  16. I find it funny that the thing that makes Aceves so good in many peoples' eyes (him not giving a s***, being a tough SOB) suddenly comes back to make him look insensitive, or something. I wouldn't expect him to be crying about the results.
  17. Nah. They just nearly won two games against Detroit, in Detroit. Their bullpen is a problem, but the whole team shouldn't be maligned after game 3 for the blown-saves of Aceves and Melacon and a s***** starting performance from Beckett and Buchholz. Let's give it some time. On the positive side, Ortiz looks dialed in, which was pretty essential early in the year if there was going to be any success.
  18. He's mediocre with slightly above average track record. He's a recognized name, putting him above a bunch of other guys you have never heard of. Lefty. Weird delivery. Looks hard to hit, but has never been among the league's best. He wouldn't be an obvious upgrade over Melancon or Morales for the closer position, but he could fill in one of their roles if, say, Morales were promoted.
  19. I'm going with the glass half-full approach. The Sox were in a position to win two of three games against a very good Detroit team. They absolutely should have won today, and maybe Thursday. If they are able to get the bullpen figured out I think things will be okay. It's hard to say after a loss like todays, but it's actually true. It would have been more dejecting if they hadn't been in any of the 3 games.
  20. C'mon Melancon. Get this f***ing out. My couch is tired.
  21. Youkilis blocks that ball cleanly.
