  1. Keep in mind that Renteria has played his entire career in the NL (9 years). He is facing all new pitchers that he's never seen for the most part. Give him some time - he is a better hitter and fielder than Cabrera - who was a personal fav. of mine last year. Renteria has hits in 8 out of his last 10 games so I dont think he's doing that bad. His fielding should win him a gold glove while in Boston as well. By the way Renteria is batting .246 Manny is batting .241 So since no one is jumping on Manny for his avg how about we let them play more than a month and a half. And yes I know Manny has more HRs and RBIs but everyone seems to be jumping on his avg. Manny is a pretty good hitter and is batting lower than Edgar. Renterias career BA is .288 and I would expect him to be around there by the end of the season. He just needs to get on a hot streak and pad some stats.
  2. wait for it - in a couple weeks its gonna be "its only june and theres still half a season left." Honestly though I think the Yanks and Sox will be in it at the end. They still have way too much talent to keep underachieving all season. I think because of the way their team is structured they are more prone to losing streaks than the Sox. But in the end there is no way Baltimore will beat either the Sox or the Yankees. Oh yeah and Baltimore lost again tonight
  3. 1. Schilling - obviously 2. Bronson - longest streak in ML with something like 17 starts without a loss 3. Wake - he's having one of those seasons that come every 3 years or so 4. Miller - when healthy this guy could be #2 5. Clement - great stuff but some control problems overall we have a great staff and i didnt even have room for wells. i just like miller way more than wells and think he will have a better year as well.
  4. Zito vs. Clement I dont have their stats on hand but i know Clement is 4-0 going for a career best 5-0 start.i dont know how to do the picture things either but since its a day game i figured i would start the thread since the game is already on. Manny hit a HR and Damon already extended his hitting streak. Sox are up 4-0 right now on Zito. Yankees were tied 5-5 after 1 today as well.
  5. Dumb and Dumber Harry: You know Lloyd, just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself. Thats exactly how I feel about Millar tonight. After those awful plays in the field he totally redeemed himself.
  6. im not worried about the Yanks right now. Last time they won 3 in a row was the ALCS games 1 - 3 so they should be due for another 4 game losing streak just like in the ALCS
  7. i would trade them both for LeBron but thats not happening because Toine is a FA and Pierce makes a ton of money. LeBron doesnt make much annually yet. This draft looks deep and some speculate its because of the threat of an age limit. So everyone is trying to jump now while you can. May 14th is the last day to declare for the draft early. I agree I would like to see any of those 3 on the Celtics. Garcia is a 6'7" guard which is the size of TMac
  8. oh yeah and the Sox lead baseball in RS with 180 - looks like the best offense in baseball for the 3rd straight year
  9. the yankees just beat the worst scoring team in baseball for 2 games and had RJ win a one run game. They are looking much better but thats not too hard to do after how they were playing. Here's how the Yankees are back: 4th place in the AL East - 8 Games back Losing Home record 9-14 in the Division .424 win % 5 - 5 last 10 167 Runs Scored 176 Runs Allowed I think a $200 million team has to at least be .500 in order to be considered back.
  10. im pulling for him too but if he's throwing 87-88 mph fastball he needs some nasty breaking pitches to not get killed. I only saw him throw against Seattle but it seemed like all he threw was that fastball.
  11. miller looked great - i cant wait for his next start. he was dialing it up to 92 i saw on the gun. hope he can keep it going
  12. is renteria playing in the second game?
  13. millar had a nice hit in the 1st off the wall that scored 3 which is good since he's shown absolutely no power so far this season. Youks also got hosed on that called third strike - it was way inside. Did anyone hear about the clubhouse assistant that died? they mentioned it on NESN just now about a tragic accident yesterday that killed a 29 year old clubhouse ast. I hadn't heard anything at all about it and was curious the circumstances. Either way my condolences go out to his family.
  14. i thought he had another year or two but the Pats said before that they wanted to get him locked up long term. Great move
  15. its so stupid to have the games at 12 and 5 because if the first one runs late they wont be able to clear out the park and get it ready for the second game in time. It should be a day/night double header but they cant because of ESPN's exclusive rights to the Sunday night broadcast. No other games can be played then I believe
  16. I just saw it on ESPN news in the bottom right corner. they didnt give any details to the signing though and I haven't been able to find it on their website yet. But this is great news regaurdless of how much it is for. Brady is the key to keeping this dynasty going. update its being reported as 6 years 60 million - not a bad deal for the Pats considering he's the Montana of this generation. At least he's locked up for a long time so he will hopefully retire a Patriot.
  17. double headers are great and with the Celtics game tonight I wouldn't mind it. It kind of sucks though for people that have to go to a game on Mother's Day if its cancelled. Im sure some people specifically avoided the Sunday game to be with their family
  18. the yankees are on pace to be the WORST defensive team in the history of baseball. lets just think about that for a minute. nothing they do in the short term is going to change that. the owner of the astros has already said hes not trading Clemens this year so maybe next year. overpaid overrated geriatrics is team yankee
  19. BoSox Rule - He was only the best offensive 2B in the AL last year, so I guess he's alright. Bellhorn gets no love - he was the best offensive secondbaseman last year. K's aren't really that bad as long as you have a decent avg. and a good OBP. Last year Bellhorn was near the top of the league in walks - and last year he grounded into a total of 6 DPs with Damon in front of him. He is a great sabermetric player because he is undervalued. He also hit some clutch HRs in the postseason regaurdless of his overall avg. I think I would still rather have Hanley at 2B next year but Bellhorn is still the man and should remain in the lineup. Remember this guy hit 2nd last year in our lineup that scored the most runs in the league. He helped us do that so lets give him some respect.
  20. the advantage of having george as your owner: giambi 20 million per for 4 more years brown 15 million bernie 12 million mussina 18 million RJ 16 million AROD 25 million Jeter 18 million thats the beauty of having Steinbrenner as your owner. all the overpaid players you can get your hands on. Im surprised theres been no trade for Chan Ho Park - I mean there arent that many more pitchers who get paid 15 + million a year that suck. the Yanks are trying to corner the market
  21. trot had a nice 4/5 day as well and was hauling ass to score the winning run on papi's hit. Broson is the man and we really need him to step it up while our pitchers are hurting. I hope this performence keeps him in the rotation when we have 6 SPs later in the season
  22. Sox take the lead with an Ortiz double to score Trot. 2-1 going into the bottom of the 9th. Foulke doesn't have any room for error here.
  23. no you just dont mention it to the pitcher, obviously everyone knows that he has a no no going. now its through 6. they said the longest he's ever gone with a no hitter in his career was 4 1/3 innings so this is uncharted territory. The last two innings he's thrown a total of 18 pitches.
  24. big difference between the Sox and Yanks is that the Sox have had a 3 game win streak this year. before you start predicting the Yanks will finish ahead of the Sox how about you wait for your team to have ONE win streak this year. Also the yanks have had something like 17 out of the first 25 games at home. its only gonna get worse. We should start predicting when they finally get their first win streak this year. Im thinking early June maybe.
